Book excerpt: From the renowned psychologist who introduced the world to “growth mindset” comes this updated edition of the million-copy bestseller—featuring transformative insights into redefining success, building lifelong resilience, and supercharging self-improvement. “Through clever research studies and engaging writing, Dweck illuminates how our beliefs about our capabilities exert tremendous influence on how we learn and which paths we take in life.”—Bill Gates, GatesNotes “It’s not always the people who start out the smartest who end up the smartest.” After decades of research, world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D., discovered a simple but groundbreaking idea: the power of mindset. In this brilliant book, she shows how success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities. People with a fixed mindset—those who believe that abilities are fixed—are less likely to flourish than those with a growth mindset—those who believe that abilities can be developed. Mindset reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment. In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. She introduces a phenomenon she calls false growth mindset and guides people toward adopting a deeper, truer growth mindset. She also expands the mindset concept beyond the individual, applying it to the cultures of groups and organizations. With the right mindset, you can motivate those you lead, teach, and love—to transform their lives and your own.

Book The Scout Mindset

Download or read book The Scout Mindset written by Julia Galef and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "...an engaging and enlightening account from which we all can benefit."—The Wall Street Journal A better way to combat knee-jerk biases and make smarter decisions, from Julia Galef, the acclaimed expert on rational decision-making. When it comes to what we believe, humans see what they want to see. In other words, we have what Julia Galef calls a "soldier" mindset. From tribalism and wishful thinking, to rationalizing in our personal lives and everything in between, we are driven to defend the ideas we most want to believe—and shoot down those we don't. But if we want to get things right more often, argues Galef, we should train ourselves to have a "scout" mindset. Unlike the soldier, a scout's goal isn't to defend one side over the other. It's to go out, survey the territory, and come back with as accurate a map as possible. Regardless of what they hope to be the case, above all, the scout wants to know what's actually true. In The Scout Mindset, Galef shows that what makes scouts better at getting things right isn't that they're smarter or more knowledgeable than everyone else. It's a handful of emotional skills, habits, and ways of looking at the world—which anyone can learn. With fascinating examples ranging from how to survive being stranded in the middle of the ocean, to how Jeff Bezos avoids overconfidence, to how superforecasters outperform CIA operatives, to Reddit threads and modern partisan politics, Galef explores why our brains deceive us and what we can do to change the way we think.

Download or read book Zenergy I written by Debora Kahny and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-06-05 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zenergy I is one of a three series self help book about getting in touch with your thoughts and feeling in order to help yourself to be in a better place to manifest the life that you want. The book is about mind-set training for empowering individuals who want to live a more positive life. Throughout my life I looked long and hard for the "philosopher's stone" and the alchemy to make my reality my dream life. I looked for my life's purpose in so many different corners of experiences and places only to find that the journey itself is my life's path. My path is to give directions to those who seek the same passage. You are reading this book because you are also a seeker and my mission is to give you a road map and the tools to help guide you onto a better direction for self-empowerment, connectedness, self-exploration and self-love. We all have freedom of choice - sometimes our choices turn out to be life lessons in disguise and one decision can turn your life from empowering to challenging and vice versa. We challenge ourselves thorough our self talk and internal battling - sometimes we feel like we are not enough and look outside ourselves to seek out our own happiness. In the process we leave behind debris of feeling lack-full and unfulfilled. These scattered remnants of emotional clutter or debris will later have to be cleaned-up from being swept under the carpet or avoided or not dealt with. Because let's face it. That bump under the carpet can become a debt that we owe, a health issue, a job loss, and even a separation from someone we love... and later manifest into bigger problems that take on a life of their own. By facing and accepting life as we live day-to-day and by keeping a positive attitude and a desired goal in our focus we can manifest anything that we desire. We also need to listen to the cues and messages that the Universe is sending us as opportunities and do something about them because will guide us to actually achieve the goals we set out to manifest. We need to do the work, as well as keeping confident that we are on the right course. Feeling empowered is the route to seeking our true path and by looking for the cues and acting on them we can manifest the life that we want. Living, breathing and giving ourselves the tools to stay on this route takes patience, practice and commitment. My purpose of this book is to give examples from my life, (where I had to push myself from the bottom of the pool to come up for air), and the knowledge that I learned that helped me through dark times has given me the tools to handle anything. Life doesn't come with directions. Many times we are lost within its chapters and sometimes the pages stick together and sometimes something happens that you would never have imagined. I felt compelled to write this book because of the many paths my life has taken - along with its many detours and unexpected turns. In many cases these turns only brought me back to where I started off - because mentally I didn't feel fulfilled nor empowered. I was pretty lost and without direction. Which led me to repeat patterns. Or as I like to call it living in the same neighborhood and just walking in circles around the block! I took what I felt was an easy shortcut at times only to find that it turned into a life lesson which I needed to broaden my expedition thorough my own road map of life. Now-a-days I enjoy taking the road less traveled so that I can fully embrace the passage more completely, no rush, no hurry just in the moment.
