Download or read book Electronic Toll and Traffic Management ETTM Systems written by Michael C. Pietrzyk and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis on Electronic Toll and Traffic Management (ETTM) systems will be of interest to officials of toll authorities, traffic engineers, design engineers, law enforcement officials, financial personnel, developers and vendors of electronic vehicle identification and toll collection equipment, and others responsible for the design and operation of toll facilities. The technology, including examples of applications of several current ETTM systems, is described in this synthesis. Because the technology is in the early stages of implementation, there is little experience with the TM (traffic management) aspects of ETTM; however, the potential for traffic management systems is discussed. Various electronic toll collection (ETC) and automatic vehicle identification (AVI) systems, their characteristics, advantages/disadvantages, payment options, and performance experience are described. The computer requirements and relative costs of various applications are also discussed. This report of the Transportation Research Board presents information on specific system design and operational considerations, as well as on the more sensitive issues of enforcement, privacy, and equity in providing these advanced systems. This technology is changing rapidly, and the synthesis presents a snapshot of the industry at the time of its preparation.

Download or read book Toll Facilities in the United States written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains selected information on toll facilities in the United States. The information is based on a survey of facilities in operation, financed, or under construction as of January 1, 1999, and is presented in six tables. Table T-1 contains information such as the name, financing or operating authority, location and termini, feature crossed, length, and road system for toll roads, bridges, tunnels, and ferries that connect highways. Table T-2 contains a list of those projects under serious consideration as toll facilities, awaiting completion of financing arrangements, or proposed as new toll facilities that are being studied for financial and operational feasibility. Also included are four tables containing data on receipts and disbursements of toll facilities. These four tables are published in the "1997 Highway Statistics" as Table SF-3B, Table SF-4B, Table LGF-3B and Table LGF-4B. Beginning with this issue of "Toll Facilities in the United States," a section has been added containing available names, addresses, and phone numbers of toll authorities; all toll authorities are not included.

Download or read book International Encyclopedia of Transportation written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-05-13 with total page 4418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an increasingly globalised world, despite reductions in costs and time, transportation has become even more important as a facilitator of economic and human interaction; this is reflected in technical advances in transportation systems, increasing interest in how transportation interacts with society and the need to provide novel approaches to understanding its impacts. This has become particularly acute with the impact that Covid-19 has had on transportation across the world, at local, national and international levels. Encyclopedia of Transportation, Seven Volume Set - containing almost 600 articles - brings a cross-cutting and integrated approach to all aspects of transportation from a variety of interdisciplinary fields including engineering, operations research, economics, geography and sociology in order to understand the changes taking place. Emphasising the interaction between these different aspects of research, it offers new solutions to modern-day problems related to transportation. Each of its nine sections is based around familiar themes, but brings together the views of experts from different disciplinary perspectives. Each section is edited by a subject expert who has commissioned articles from a range of authors representing different disciplines, different parts of the world and different social perspectives. The nine sections are structured around the following themes: Transport Modes; Freight Transport and Logistics; Transport Safety and Security; Transport Economics; Traffic Management; Transport Modelling and Data Management; Transport Policy and Planning; Transport Psychology; Sustainability and Health Issues in Transportation. Some articles provide a technical introduction to a topic whilst others provide a bridge between topics or a more future-oriented view of new research areas or challenges. The end result is a reference work that offers researchers and practitioners new approaches, new ways of thinking and novel solutions to problems. All-encompassing and expertly authored, this outstanding reference work will be essential reading for all students and researchers interested in transportation and its global impact in what is a very uncertain world. Provides a forward looking and integrated approach to transportation Updated with future technological impacts, such as self-driving vehicles, cyber-physical systems and big data analytics Includes comprehensive coverage Presents a worldwide approach, including sets of comparative studies and applications
