Download or read book Discurso del m todo written by René Descartes and published by EDAF. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Descartes de la metaf sica a la moral written by Julio Morales Guerrero and published by Universidad del Norte. This book was released on 2023-10-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Discurso del M todo Meditaciones metaf sicas written by René Descartes and published by Grupo Planeta Spain. This book was released on 2012-07-03 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Meditations on First Philosophy

Download or read book Meditations on First Philosophy written by René Descartes and published by Newcomb Livraria Press. This book was released on 1951 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The effect of this man on his age and the new age cannot be imagined broadly enough... René Descartes is indeed the true beginner of modern philosophy, insofar as it makes thinking the principle. "- Hegel A new 2023 translation directly from the original manuscripts into English of Descartes' famous work "Meditations on First Philosophy". This edition contains a new introduction and afterword from the translator, as well as a timeline of Descartes' life and summaries of each of his works. In these "meditations", in mimicry of Marcus Aurelius, Descartes pens a series of essays on the nature of reality, the existence of God, and the relationship between mind and body. This work is significant because it helped to establish Descartes' philosophy of dualism and had a profound and lasting impact on Western philosophy. In this work, Descartes famously proclaimed, "Cogito, ergo sum" ("I think, therefore I am"), establishing the moniker of Cartesian Epistemology and the foundation of the Enlightenment

Book Ren Descartes Principles of Philosophy

Download or read book Ren Descartes Principles of Philosophy written by and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Descartes's Principles 0. / Philosophy is his longest and most ambitious work; it is the only work in which he attempted to actually deduce scientific knowledge from Cartesian metaphysics, as he repeatedly claimed was possible. Whatever the success of this attempt, there can be no doubt that it was enormously influential. Cartesian celestial mechanics held sway for well over a century, and some of the best minds of that period, including Leibniz, Malebranche, Euler, and the Bernoullis, attempted to modify and quantify the Cartesian theory of vortices into an acceptable alternative to Newton's theory of universal gravitation. Thus, the Principles is not only of inherent and historical interest philosophically but is also a seminal document in the history of science and of 17th Century thought. Principles of Philosophy was first published in Latin, in 1644. In 1647, a French translation, done by the Abbe Claude Picot and containing a great deal of additional material and a number of alterations in the original text, was published with Descartes's enthusiastic approval. Unlike some English translations of portions of the Principles, this translation uses the Latin text as its primary source; however, a good deal of additional material from Picot's translation has been included. There are several reasons for this. First, there is good evidence that Descartes himself was responsible for some of the additional material, including, of course, the Preface to the French translation.

Book excerpt: The Discourse on the Method for Reasoning Well and for Seeking Truth in the Sciences offers a concise presentation and defense of René Descartes’s method of intellectual inquiry — a method that greatly influenced both philosophical and scientific reasoning in the early modern world. Descartes’s timeless writing strikes an uncommon balance of novelty and familiarity, offering arguments concerning knowledge, science, and metaphysics (including the famous “I think, therefore I am”) that are as compelling in the twenty-first century as they were in the seventeenth. Ian Johnston’s new translation of the original French text is modern, clear, and thoroughly annotated, ideal for readers unfamiliar with Descartes’s intellectual context. An approachable introduction engages both the historical and the philosophical aspects of the text, helping the reader to understand the concepts and arguments contained therein.

Book excerpt: This volume provides new translations of René Descartes’s two most important philosophical works. The Discourse offers a concise presentation and defense of Descartes’s method of intellectual inquiry—a method that greatly influenced both philosophical and scientific reasoning in the early modern world. Considered a foundational text in modern philosophy, the Meditations presents numerous powerful arguments that to this day influence debates in epistemology, the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of religion.
