Download or read book Emerging Market Heterogeneity written by Mr.Zhongxia Zhang and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies growth patterns in Emerging Market Economies (EMs) from the perspective on clusters and taxonomies. First, it documents developments over the past five decades in EMs and uses a cluster analysis to better understand convergence and the investment-growth nexus. Second, it looks at the performance of EMs since 2000 and develops a taxonomy to classify countries according to their factor endowments as well as their real and financial external linkages. The taxonomy offers insights on growth dynamics pre and post the global financial crisis. Results highlight the high degree of heterogeneity in EMs and the need for more granular and targeted near and long-term policy advice.

Download or read book From War to Peace in the Balkans the Middle East and Ukraine written by Daniel Serwer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on the origins, consequences and aftermath of the 1995 and 1999 Western military interventions that led to the end of the most recent Balkan wars. Though challenging problems remain in Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia, the conflict prevention and state-building efforts thereafter were partly successful as countries of the region are on separate tracks towards European Union membership. This study highlights lessons that can be applied to the Middle East and Ukraine, where similar conflicts are likewise challenging sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is an accessible treatment of what makes war and how to make peace ideal for all readers interested in how violent international conflicts can be managed, informed by the experience of a practitioner.

Download or read book Comparative Analysis Of Nations written by Robert Perry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The comparative method is fundamental and critical for political scientists, and especially those interested in comparative politics. Such questions as how democratic is the United States, how rich is Germany, and how ethnically complex is Nigeria-and what effects these attributes have on important political phenomena-cannot be analyzed except comparatively. To understand politics we need to think in terms of concepts, processes, behavior and authority patterns that transcend specific regions or nation-states. Comparative Analysis of Nations is designed to address three questions confronting the study of politics: (1) What do I do once I have identified a question that I want to explore within a cross-national perspective? (2) How do I proceed so I adequately address this question? (3) Why should I proceed with this particular study plan? Perry and Robertson examine how to conceptualize, operationalize, measure, sample, analyze, and evaluate these research questions. In clear language they stress the logic behind basic techniques of quantitative analysis, issues of measurement and hypothesis testing, basic techniques of hypothesis testing (tabular analysis, ANOVA, scatterplots, bivariate regression) and advanced bivariate analysis (curvilinear and multiple regression). The book requires no previous training in statistics or math. Cross-national data sets accompany the book on a CD-ROM and are compatible with the popular SPSS package. The data sets enable the instructor the opportunity to engage the students directly in devising their own modified models of analysis to complement and extend the demonstrations within the text. In sum, the text integrates the core tools and strategies of social science analysis within a framework that highlights the quantitative study of comparative politics.
Download or read book Capital Flows Without Crisis written by Dipak Das Gupta and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary message of the contributors--economists at universities, international organizations, and banks around the world--is that the integration of emerging economies into the global financial system poses much larger policy challenges that had previously been anticipated. They point out that as the number of potential targets for investment grows, now 31, there is an increased probability of financial crises in developing countries that have become reliant on volatile capital flows, and that a crisis in one country increases the probability of a crisis in others. c. Download or read book Saving Succeeding Generations from the Scourge of War written by Niels M. Blokker and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its famous first words, the UN Charter expresses the determination of “the peoples of the United Nations [...] to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind”. In order to achieve this, a new world organization was established, with a key responsibility for the Security Council. The aim of this book is to evaluate the functioning of the Security Council during its first 75 years, from an institutional legal perspective. It analyzes three issues that were not only hotly debated when the United Nations was founded, but have also been highly relevant for the Council’s functioning in practice and are likely to remain so in the future: the right of veto for the permanent members, the rule of law, and the size of the Council (the need for enlargement).

Download or read book Chalcidoidea of Iran written by Hassan Ghahari and published by CABI. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The superfamily Chalcidoidea (Insecta, Hymenoptera) contains in excess of 26,000 described species worldwide, but with an estimated total diversity of more than 500,000 species the vast majority of species have yet to be discovered and described. Most chalcidoid species are parasitoids of hosts in at least 12 different insect orders, attacking the egg, larval or pupal stages, though phytophagy and other life cycles and hosts are known. Iran is the 18th largest country in the world and has a rich and diverse insect fauna, including Chalcidoidea. It is extremely interesting from a biogeographic point of view, and a paradise for an entomologist. This book summarizes the results of all prior research concerning species diversity of Iranian Chalcidoidea, including host records and distribution records by province in Iran as well as world distribution by country for 1,351 species of Chalcidoidea recorded from Iran through the end of 2019.

Book excerpt: The contributors to this collection explore the multidimensional transformation of independent Ukraine and deal with her politics, society, private sector, identity, arts, religions, media, and democracy. Each chapter reflects the up-to-date research in its sub-discipline, is styled for use in seminars, and includes a bibliography as well as a recommended reading list.
