Book Effect of Truck Tire Inflation Pressure and Axle Load on Pavement Performance

Download or read book Effect of Truck Tire Inflation Pressure and Axle Load on Pavement Performance written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of an investigation into the effect of truck tire inflation pressure and axle load on flexible and rigid pavement performance as determined using computer analysis. The flexible pavement analysis was conducted with both a nonuniform pressure model and a uniform pressure model as input to the elastic layer program BISAR and the 3D finite element program TEXGAP-3D. A rigid pavement analysis was conducted with both a nonuniform pressure model and a uniform pressure model as input to the program JSLAB.

Book Impact of Truck Characteristics on Pavements

Download or read book Impact of Truck Characteristics on Pavements written by Stuart W. Hudson and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Truck load equivalency factors relate vehicle axle loads to pavement damage and life. They provide a method to convert the effects of mixed traffic to a standard loading condition. Equivalent loadings for most pavement design and evaluation procedures are currently predicted using the AASHTO method of equivalency factors. This study was undertaken to evaluate various types of primary pavement response derived load equivalency factors. These use pavement response measurements such as strain and deflection to estimate the equivalent damaging effect of any axle loading condition. These types of factors are also expressed in terms of a relative number of equivalent standard axle loads. A number of primary response equivalency factor methods were evaluated and several selected for further study. Deflection and strain pavement response measurements were evaluated over an experimental factorial of axle type, axle load, tire pressure, speed, pavement thickness, and pavement temperature. Primary response load equivalencies were calculated using the selected methods and a number of statistical comparisons were made.

Book The Effect of Tire Pressures on Flexible Pavements

Download or read book The Effect of Tire Pressures on Flexible Pavements written by Freddy L. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study includes the results of (1) a field study to determine the tire inflation pressures currently being carried by Texas highways, (2) a literature and analytical study to determine what tire contact pressures are actually being applied by modern tires to pavements, and (3) an analytical study to evaluate the effect of those contact pressures on the stresses and strains in typical Texas flexible pavements. Descriptions of the analytical studies include discussions of the finite element computer program used to model the tire carcass and the flexible pavements. The tires included in the analytical study included both truck and passenger car tires operated at typical loads and inflation pressures.

Compiling novel research results presented at the 5th International Conference on Accelerated Pavement Testing, San Jose, Costa Rica, the volume serves as a timely and highly relevant resource for materials scientists and engineers interested in determining the performance of a pavement structure during its service life (10+ years) in a few weeks or months.

Book Wide base Truck Tire Effects on Pavement Performance and Vehicle Regulatory Legislation

Download or read book Wide base Truck Tire Effects on Pavement Performance and Vehicle Regulatory Legislation written by Raymond K. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current operating practice in the trucking industry related to tire pressures and truck tires are summarized. Findings of recent (since 1987) pertiment pavement performance research including both full-scale and analytical pavement response and performance studies are discussed. Pertinent findings developed in previous literature reviews are also included. Regulatory approaches developed by the various states based on information from a telephone survey conducted during July and August 1991 are included. Economic analyses are used to compare the increased annualized bituminous pavement rehabilitation costs with trucking industry benefits. Recommendations regarding the regulation of wide-base truck tires are presented.

Book Significant Findings from Full scale Accelerated Pavement Testing

Download or read book Significant Findings from Full scale Accelerated Pavement Testing written by Wynand JvdM. Steyn and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 433: Significant Findings from Full-Scale Accelerated Pavement Testing documents and summarizes significant findings from the various experimental activities associated with full-scale accelerated pavement testing (f-sAPT) programs that have taken place between 2000 and 2011. The report also identifies gaps in knowledge related to f-sAPT and where future research may be needed. NCHRP Synthesis 433 is designed to expand the f-sAPT base of knowledge documented in NCHRP Syntheses 325 and 235, both with the same title of Significant Findings from Full-Scale Accelerated Pavement Testing. f-sAPT is the controlled application of a wheel loading, at or above the appropriate legal load limit, to a pavement system to determine pavement response in a compressed time period. The acceleration of damage is achieved by one or more of the following factors: increased repetitions, modified loading conditions, imposed climatic conditions, and thinner pavements with a decreased structural capacity which have shorter design lives"--

Download or read book Truck Weight Limits written by National Research Council (U.S.). Committee for the Truck Weight Study and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To help assess proposals for further changes in federal truck weight limits, Congress requested this study through Section 158 of the Surface Transportation and Uniform Relocation Assistance Act of 1987. To conduct the study, the National Research Council convened a special Transportation Research Board committee with experts in pavements, bridges, highway safety, freight transportation economics, motor vehicle design, highway administration, motor carrier operations, and enforcement of motor vehicle regulations. The study focused on four issues identified in the study request that involve potential changes to federal weight limits for Interstate highways: (1) Elimination of existing grandfather provisions; (2) Alternative methods for determining gross vehicle weight and axle loadings; (3) Adequacy of the current federal bridge formula; and (4) Treatment of specialized hauling vehicles--garbage trucks, dump trucks, and other trucks with short wheel bases that have difficulty complying with the current federal bridge formula. For each of these issues, the study committee estimated the nationwide effects of changes in federal limits proposed by the trucking industry, highway agencies, and other groups. Projections of heavy-truck miles by type of truck, region of the country, highway functional class, and operating weight were developed for a base case and alternative truck weight regulatory scenarios. These projections were then used to estimate impacts on truck costs, pavements, bridges, and safety.
