Book Effects of Role Ambiguity on Nurses Stress Levels and Job Satisfaction

Download or read book Effects of Role Ambiguity on Nurses Stress Levels and Job Satisfaction written by Lauren Borghese and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nurses experience high levels of stress and decreased job satisfaction due to environmental stressors in the workplace. Role ambiguity is one of the largest causes of environmental stress for nurses. Research articles demonstrate a direct correlation of work-related stress, caused by role ambiguity, to the reason for nurses leaving their jobs. Healthcare administrators often fail to recognize the importance of clearly defining specific roles for healthcare workers. Research studies show that undefined roles cause increased stress in nurses. A three-month trial was used to assess how clearly defining roles of Cardio Vascular Intensive Care(CVICU) nurses and the other healthcare disciplines working in conjunction with the CVICU nurses, can affect nurses' stress levels and job satisfaction. Nurses were educated prior to the trial, and the trial's progress was assessed monthly. Betty Neuman's theory explains that stress is created from and within a person's internal and external environment. This theory was incorporated into this implementation, focused on lowering nurse's stress levels. The evaluation recognized the variables effecting the implementation: with willingness of the employee, and nurse's perceptions ranking as the highest variables. Evaluation of the trial was based on a computation and comparison of answers from the pre-trial and post-trial evaluations. The results of this study are to be published in professional journals of Intensive Care nurses and journals associated with hospital administrators. In efforts of distributing the information to large groups, the study results will also be presented via poster presentations at regional and national healthcare meetings. The information will be informally presented at local chapter meetings and display booths at conferences.

Book Role Conflict Role Ambiguity and Role Strain in United States Air Force Chief Nurse Administrators

Download or read book Role Conflict Role Ambiguity and Role Strain in United States Air Force Chief Nurse Administrators written by Durelle Mae Black Fullenkamp and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This descriptive correlational and comparative study examined if a relationship exists among role conflict and role ambiguity as measured by the Role Conflict and Ambiguity Questionnaire and role strain as measured by the Tennessee Stress Scale-R. Four major null hypotheses were tested and revealed significant relationships: between role conflict and total role strain between role ambiguity and total role strain and among mean total role strain scores and three groups representing general levels of role stress. It was concluded that the conceptual framework was appropriate for this study. Recommendations were made to replicate this study using a larger nationwide randomized sample with a longitudinal design. Utilization of the conceptual framework in other studies as well as to study the eustress portion of the framework in relation to strain outcomes, were also suggested. Another recommendation was to conduct a descriptive study to ascertain coping response to role conflict. Keywords: Job analysis; Job satisfaction; Nurses, Nursing, Physicians, These.

Book The effect of role ambiguity on role conflict workplace effectiveness and organizational commitment of rural registered nurses

Download or read book The effect of role ambiguity on role conflict workplace effectiveness and organizational commitment of rural registered nurses written by Catherine V. Belden and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "With over 50 million Americans residing in rural locations throughout the United States, rural nurses play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of these isolated populations. The rural nurse generally encounters unique challenges in the workplace such as limited orientation platforms, decreased accessibility to continuing education opportunities, deficient research opportunities, and the demands of a broad knowledge base that encompasses various nursing specialities. The purpose of this sequential explanatory study was to determine the perceptions of role ambiguity among registered nurses (RNs) in rural healthcare organizations and to examine the effect of such on the perceptions of role conflict, workplace effectiveness, and organizational commitment. The study addressed four hypothetical postulates developed from six research questions that examined a random, cross-sectional, convenience sample of rural registered nurses (RNs) across the United States. All research questions and hypotheses were analyzed using a variety of descriptive and correlational statistical tests (i.e. Spearman's rho) pertinent to the study design. Through the theoretical frameworks of Social Cognitive Career Theory, Structural Theory of Organizational Behavior, and Role Theory, the results demonstrated statistically significant positive correlations between rural RNs' perceptions of role ambiguity and perceptions of role conflict, workplace effectiveness, and organizational commitment. This study is valuable to healthcare administrators, nursing leaders, professional development educators, and direct care nurses for reducing rural RNs' role ambiguity and role conflict while enhancing their workplace effectiveness and organizational commitment"-- Abstract from thesis.
