Book The Promise and Practice of University Teacher Education

Download or read book The Promise and Practice of University Teacher Education written by Alexandra C. Gunn and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centering on the theme of university-based teacher education at a time of system change and its connections with broader global political issues, this book investigates the changing nature of initial teacher education (ITE) as it amalgamated into universities in the New Zealand context. The New Zealand government, like many across the world is seeking improvement in education system performance, with a particular interest in meeting the needs of those traditionally disadvantaged through education. As a result, over the last 20 years, most ITE has been relocated into universities and teacher qualifications have changed. Not immune to international discourses about the criticality of the teacher workforce to system performance, Aotearoa New Zealand provides a bounded yet connected case of ITE development and reform. The authors draw from a study of teacher education practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and also look at recent research carried out in other jurisdictions to consider how ITE and the academic category of teacher educator is constructed, maintained and practiced within the institution of the university. They highlight the promise of university-based ITE provision, noting areas for development and provide an opportunity to better understand how student teachers within ITE respond to and engage with teacher educators' work in the service of their own learning.

Book Educational Change and the Secondary School Music Curriculum in Aotearoa New Zealand

Download or read book Educational Change and the Secondary School Music Curriculum in Aotearoa New Zealand written by Graham McPhail and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educational Change and the Secondary School Music Curriculum in Aotearoa New Zealand provides a fascinating case study in educational change. The music curriculum has been greatly affected by deep cultural and economic forces such as the growth of popular music's importance in young people's lives, by demands for inclusive and multicultural education, and not least by advances in technology that promise to invigorate all aspects of teaching and learning. This book brings together the work of a number of leading music education scholars and teachers from Aotearoa/New Zealand to both explore these issues and to share case studies of practice: both the positive changes and the unintended consequences. Each chapter focuses on a current issue in music education and the final chapter contains responses from a number of practitioners to the issues raised by the authors, drawing together the practical and theoretical dimensions of the book.

Book Decolonisation in Aotearoa

Download or read book Decolonisation in Aotearoa written by Jenny Lee-Morgan and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines decolonisation and M ori education in Aotearoa New Zealand in ways that seeks to challenge, unsettle and provoke for change. Editors Jessica Hutchings and Jenny Lee-Morgan have drawn together leading M ori writers and intellectuals on topics that are at the heart of a decolonising education agenda, from tribal education initiatives to media issues, food sovereignty, wellbeing, Christianity, tikanga and more. A key premise is that colonisation excludes holistic and M ori experiences and ways of knowing, and continues to assert a deep influence on knowledge systems and ways of living and being, and that efforts to combat its impact must be broad and comprehensive. The book presents a kaupapa M ori and decolonised agenda for M ori education. The writers put kaupapa M ori into practice through a p r kau (narrative) approach to explore the diverse topics in a range of styles. Digital editions in ebook and Kindle versions will be available from 15 October "

Book Social Justice Pedagogies in Health and Physical Education

Download or read book Social Justice Pedagogies in Health and Physical Education written by Göran Gerdin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on observations and teacher interviews across Sweden, Norway and New Zealand, the book explores successful school teaching practices that promote social justice and equitable health outcomes. Draws attention to the importance of building relationships, teaching for social cohesion, and explicitly teaching about and acting on social inequities as pedagogies for social justice. Argues that context matters and that pedagogies for social justice need to recognise how both approaches to, and focus on, social justice vary in different contexts.
