Book Economic Analysis of Wind Energy Irrigation Pumping

Download or read book Economic Analysis of Wind Energy Irrigation Pumping written by Robert R. Lansford and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With increasing energy prices, the profitability and productivity of irrigated agriculture is become adversely affected, both for the farmer and for the economy as a whole. In areas of the country where natural wind power is substantial during the irrigation season, this renewable resource has the potential of providing an economically feasible alternative energy input for irrigation pumping. However, there is substantial uncertainty as to both the likely future cost of wind-energy equipment and future costs of conventional energy inputs. The objective of the proposed research is to ascertain the economic feasibility of wind-powered irrigation pumping. The proposed research will estimate the number of economically feasible users of alternative sized wind turbines for irrigation pumping based on alternative combinations of wind energy equipment costs and costs of conventional energy inputs. This "economic feasibility" will be defined both from the perspective of the individual irrigator (potential wind-energy investor) and that of the macroeconomy as a whole. This means that the proposed research will conduct both a breakeven analysis and a benefit-cost analysis of the economic feasibility of wind-powered irrigation pumping. The number of economically feasible wind-powered pumping plants will be calculated as a function of average wind speed during the irrigation season, horsepower of present pumping plant, length of irrigation season, investment cost of the per kw, and cost of conventional energy inputs in dollars per MBtu. It is anticipated that wind-turbine irrigation pumping, depending on design factors, will be come economically feasible first in those areas where natural gas and diesel fuel are not available, electricity is expensive and irrigation season power requirements coincide with peak-load requirements of the utilities, and average wind speed during the irrigation season is consistently high.

Book Small Wind Turbines for Electricity and Irrigation

Download or read book Small Wind Turbines for Electricity and Irrigation written by Mario Alejandro Rosato and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical book deals with the technology of small-power wind turbines as opposed to widely diffused industrial wind turbines and wind farms. It covers the most common wind turbine technologies in the small power segment: horizontal axis both for electrical generation and water pumping, vertical axis of the Darrieus type, and vertical axis of the Savonius type. With each chapter following the same didactic scheme—a theoretical explanation and practical examples showing calculation procedures—it allows anybody with basic technical knowledge to design and build a small wind turbine for any site. A set of simple spreadsheets is available for download, each providing further examples of how to solve specific design problems and allowing the reader to play with changing parameters and see what-if. This simple trial-and-error learning process allows beginners to develop the feeling of the orders of magnitude involved in the design of a small wind power system, its potential advantages on other alternative solutions, and its limitations under some special circumstances.

Book Fundamentals Wind Driven Water

Download or read book Fundamentals Wind Driven Water written by J.A.C Kentfield and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-12-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph offers a comprehensive reference work for engineers, researchers and students involved in the design, testing and improvement of wind-driven water pumps. By providing a thorough treatment of the factors which affect the success of pump performance, combined with the fundamentals of machine design, this book distinguishes itself from a simple design manual, and therefore allows the reader to determine the most efficient wind-pump configuration based on their specific needs and resources. The latest international developments in wind-driven water pumping technologies, including a survey of the advantages and disadvantages of the alternative configurations to the more "standard" designs are discussed. In a field where technical information is limited, "The Fundamentals of Wind-Driven Water Pumpers" will serve as a valuable resource for the wind-engineering community. Water-pumping windmills are used in crop irrigation and water supply for livestock in various semi-arid regions

Book Wind Energy in the 21st Century

Download or read book Wind Energy in the 21st Century written by R. Redlinger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind energy is the great success story of modern renewable energy. Since the industry's rebirth following the energy crisis of the 1970s, thousands of wind energy projects have been installed around the world. The technology today is competitive with traditional fossil-fuelled electricity generation. Wind Energy in the 21st Century explores the current economic, financial, technical, environmental, competitive, and policy considerations facing the wind energy industry. With discussions of the latest electricity industry trends including deregulation, green markets, and tradable renewable credits, this book is a must-read for energy policymakers, researchers, and energy industry professionals.
