Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: InEveryday Psychokillersspectacular violence is the idiom of everyday life, a lurid extravaganza in which all those around the narrator seem vicarious participants. And at its center are the interchangeable young girls, thrilling to know themselves the object of so much desire and terror. The narrative interweaves history, myth, rumor, and news with the experiences of a young girl living in the flatness of South Florida. Like Grace Paley's narrators, she is pensive and eager, hungry for experience but restrained. Into the sphere of her regard come a Ted Bundy reject, the God Osiris, a Caribbean slave turned pirate, a circus performer living in a box, broken horses, a Seminole chief in a swamp, and a murderous babysitter. What these preposterously commonplace figures all know is that murder is identity: "Of course what matters really is the psychokiller, what he's done, what he threatens to do. Of course to be the lucky one you have to be abducted in the first place. Without him, you wouldn't exist." Everyday Psychokillersreaches to the edge of the psychoanalytical and jolts the reader back to daily life. The reader becomes the killer, the watcher, the person on the verge, hiding behind an everyday face.

Book The Best Day the Worst Day

Download or read book The Best Day the Worst Day written by Donald Hall and published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This book was released on 2005 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In an intimate record of his twenty-three-year marriage to poet Jane Kenyon, Donald Hall recounts the rich pleasures and the unforeseen trials of their shared life. The couple made a home at their New England farmhouse, where they rejoiced in rituals of writing, gardening, caring for pets, and connecting with their rural community through friends and church. The Best Day the Worst Day presents a portrait of the inner moods of "the best marriage I know about," as Hall has written, against the stark medical emergency of Jane's leukemia, which ended her life in fifteen months. Between recollections of better times, Hall shares with readers the daily ordeal of Jane's dying through heartbreaking but ultimately inspiring storytelling."--Back cover.

Book Running For My Life

Download or read book Running For My Life written by Dragoș Rouă and published by Dragos Roua. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spooky thing about depression is that it sneaks in. There aren’t really trumpets and loud voices announcing: “Hail, hail, this is depression entering the room, all rise!” Nope. It’s slow, silent, creepy. It doesn’t even look like depression. It starts with small isolation thoughts like: “Maybe I shouldn’t get out today, I just don’t feel like going out”. And then it does the same next day. And then the day after that and so on. And then it starts to whisper louder and louder in your ears: “Why would you go outside, you loser? Didn’t have enough yet? Want more people to make fun of how much of a big, fat loser you are?” And then you start to breath in guilt and shame, instead of air. Every breathe you take is putting more dark thoughts into your body. Until you get stuck. You can’t move anymore. At all. One of the most common sensations I had during those times was me curling down in a corner, crushed by the immense weight of a huge, invisible fist pushing me down. I was feeling like this when I was lying down in the bed, when I was walking around in the backyard, when I was talking to people on the phone. Crushed by an immense, invisible fist, unable to move, in any direction, just waiting to be completely destroyed. Sometimes I was actually hoping that the destruction will come from that fist, somehow, because it would have spare me the effort of doing it myself. Yes, there were times when I felt the only viable way out from that nothingness was my physical extinction. I think the word many of you use for that is “suicidal”. The book you are about to read is the chronicle of my way out of that space. Some parts of it are recorded just as I lived them in the moment, journaling style. Some chapters are literally pages from my journal / blog. But some are written once the healing effect of running started to kick in. It’s not so much about being able to run hundreds of kilometers - although a lot of it will be just stories about my races - as it is about how to regain balance and overcome anxiety and loss.

Book Eating by Faith a Walk with God My Eating Disorder from the Inside Out

Download or read book Eating by Faith a Walk with God My Eating Disorder from the Inside Out written by Lisabeth Kaeser and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Eating by Faith, Lisabeth invites you into the secret world of her eating disorder, and recovery. And while the illness looks different for every patient, all share a commonality of symptoms physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Eating by Faith will bring you into the mind and heart of someone suffering from the illness in such a brutally honest way, that you will have a greater understanding of the mind and heart of anyone suffering from this illness. Her eating disorder, like most, takes root inside a secret place. This root is often anchored in the lies Satan would have us believe about ourselves. Once established, he will use the eating disorder to separate us from God, robbing us from our joy and our identity in Christ's unconditional love. Lisabeth's story is one of wrestling with the eating disorder, herself, and God. It is about finding her identity in the love of Christ instead of her illness. Taste and See...
