Download or read book Du Split screen Au Multi screen written by Marcin Sobieszczanski and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to this study, the spectator is currently acquiring new capacities to follow and to assimilate the moving image. In the last fifteen years, designers in the iconosphere have continued to make progress with the development and expansion of the media of visual narration. This advance is not only the result of past artistic experiments, but is above all rooted in such phenomena as the adaptation of urban populations to dynamic iconography, the proliferation of visual information, the emergence of interactive practices, such as channel surfing, the Internet search, mobile phone interfaces, as well as the visual interfaces for operating vehicles and other machines. These new ways of consuming images and sounds have fueled an expansion of new multi-screen designs that will gradually make the dark theater projection and the single-screen device obsolete. This study offers a semi-comprehensive investigation of these phenomena, anchored in the epistemology of cognitive science, providing theoretical explanations combined with analyses of recent and historical works and accompanied by the reflections and testimonies of artists.

Book excerpt: Many films and novels defy our ability to make sense of the plot. While puzzling storytelling, strange incongruities, inviting enigmas and persistent ambiguities have been central to the effects of many literary and cinematic traditions, a great deal of contemporary films and television series bring such qualities to the mainstream—but wherein lies the attractiveness of perplexing works of fiction? This collected volume offers the first comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and trans-medial approach to the question of cognitive challenge in narrative art, bringing together psychological, philosophical, formal-historical, and empirical perspectives from leading scholars across these fields.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wide-ranging study of the painted panorama’s influence on art, photography, and film This ambitious volume presents a multifaceted account of the legacy of the circular painted panorama and its far-reaching influence on art, photography, film, and architecture. From its 18th-century origins, the panorama quickly became a global mass-cultural phenomenon, often linked to an imperial worldview. Yet it also transformed modes of viewing and exerted a lasting, visible impact on filmmaking techniques, museum displays, and contemporary installation art. On the Viewing Platform offers close readings of works ranging from proto-panoramic Renaissance cityscapes and 19th-century paintings and photographs to experimental films and a wide array of contemporary art. Extensively researched and spectacularly illustrated, this volume proposes an expansive new framework for understanding the histories of art, film, and spectatorship.

Download or read book Video Conferencing written by Axel Volmar and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic has reorganized existing methods of exchange, turning comparatively marginal technologies into the new normal. Multipoint videoconferencing in particular has become a favored means for web-based forms of remote communication and collaboration without physical copresence. Taking the recent mainstreaming of videoconferencing as its point of departure, this anthology examines the complex mediality of this new form of social interaction. Connecting theoretical reflection with material case studies, the contributors question practices, politics and aesthetics of videoconferencing and the specific meanings it acquires in different historical, cultural and social contexts.

Download or read book Eyetracking and Applied Linguistics written by Silvia Hansen-Schirra and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eyetracking has become a powerful tool in scientific research and has finally found its way into disciplines such as applied linguistics and translation studies, paving the way for new insights and challenges in these fields. The aim of the first International Conference on Eyetracking and Applied Linguistics (ICEAL) was to bring together researchers who use eyetracking to empirically answer their research questions. It was intended to bridge the gaps between applied linguistics, translation studies, cognitive science and computational linguistics on the one hand and to further encourage innovative research methodologies and data triangulation on the other hand. These challenges are also addressed in this proceedings volume: While the studies described in the volume deal with a wide range of topics, they all agree on eyetracking as an appropriate methodology in empirical research.
