Book Theory of Shell Structures

    Book Details:
  • Author : C. R. Calladine
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1983
  • ISBN : 9780521369459
  • Pages : 794 pages

Download or read book Theory of Shell Structures written by C. R. Calladine and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to bring the essence of shell structures within the grasp of engineers. It tackles the fundamental question of how bending and stretching effects combine and interact in shell structures from a physical point of view; and shows that this approach leads to an understanding of the structural mechanics of shells in general.

Book Stability of Structures

Download or read book Stability of Structures written by Z. P. Ba?ant and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 1039 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A crucial element of structural and continuum mechanics, stability theory has limitless applications in civil, mechanical, aerospace, naval and nuclear engineering. This text of unparalleled scope presents a comprehensive exposition of the principles and applications of stability analysis. It has been proven as a text for introductory courses and various advanced courses for graduate students. It is also prized as an exhaustive reference for engineers and researchers. The authors' focus on understanding of the basic principles rather than excessive detailed solutions, and their treatment of each subject proceed from simple examples to general concepts and rigorous formulations. All the results are derived using as simple mathematics as possible. Numerous examples are given and 700 exercise problems help in attaining a firm grasp of this central aspect of solid mechanics. The book is an unabridged republication of the 1991 edition by Oxford University Press and the 2003 edition by Dover, updated with 18 pages of end notes.

Book Effect of Horizontal tail Position on the Hinge Moments of an Unbalanced Rudder in Attitudes Simulating Spin Conditions

Download or read book Effect of Horizontal tail Position on the Hinge Moments of an Unbalanced Rudder in Attitudes Simulating Spin Conditions written by Ralph W. Stone (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in the Langley 15-foot free-spinning tunnel to determine the effect of horizontal-tail position on rudder hinge-moments at attitudes simulating spinning conditions. Hinge-moment measurements were made on an unbalanced rudder on a rectangular vertical tail for six positions of the horizontail tail. The hinge-moment measurements were supplemented by tuft tests to determine the air flow about the vertical tail.

Book Structural Shell Analysis

    Book Details:
  • Author : Johan Blaauwendraad
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-09-06
  • ISBN : 9400767013
  • Pages : 305 pages

Download or read book Structural Shell Analysis written by Johan Blaauwendraad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical description of the properties of a shell is much more elaborate than those of beam and plate structures. Therefore many engineers and architects are unacquainted with aspects of shell behaviour and design, and are not familiar with sufficiently reliable shell theories for the different shell types as derived in the middle of the 20th century. Rather than contributing to theory development, this university textbook focuses on architectural and civil engineering schools. Of course, practising professionals will profit from it as well. The book deals with thin elastic shells, in particular with cylindrical, conical and spherical types, and with elliptic and hyperbolic paraboloids. The focus is on roofs, chimneys, pressure vessels and storage tanks. Special attention is paid to edge bending disturbance zones, which is indispensable knowledge in FE meshing. A substantial part of the book results from research efforts in the mid 20th century at Delft University of Technology. As such, it is a valuable addition to the body of shell research literature of continuing importance. This work can be used for university courses. It also shows professionals how to perform manual calculations of the main force flow in shell structures, and provides guidance for structural engineers estimating stresses and deformations.
