Book Stuck on Stupid or Stuck in Stupid

Download or read book Stuck on Stupid or Stuck in Stupid written by Linda Porter Harrison and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-02-15 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stuck on Stupid or Stuck in Stupid: (The 25 mistakes women make that prevent them from attracting and keeping true love) Is the partner book to: Think Like a Manand heres a thought: Start Acting Like a Man (The 25 mistakes men make that prevent them from finding and keeping true love) I have been pondering whether or not to write a relationship book for women for quite some time. After the release of my first novelTorn Between 2 Brothas and my first relationship book Think Like A Man, I received numerous e-mails and phone calls from women asking that I write a relationship book for them. Initially, I was taken aback because I never saw myself as a relationship guru. The irony is that Ive always been the girlfriend that everyone comes to when it comes to relationships. I dont think that it is because I have had the best relationships when it comes to men. Believe me; I have had a few that I care not to remember. I must admit, I kissed a few frogs before I found my Prince Charming. However, I do think that it is because I have always been optimistic and objective when it comes to love. Even when I have been in the midst of a tumultuous relationship, I have always been able to find my center, recognize my stupidity, and if not in that momentvery soon afterwards, get out of my circumstance. Afterwards, I brush myself off, evaluate the lesson learned and move on (something many women have trouble doing). Also, I try not to punish the next man that enters my life for the mistakes the previous guy made (huge mistake). For the last ten plus years, I have been paying close attention to the behavior of women and trying desperately to get a grip on why we continue to behave so stupidly when it comes to men. Is it that we just dont know? Or is it that we do know, but we choose to stay stuck in/on stupid? Youll have to answer these questions for yourself. Also, I interviewed men and asked them what things really bother them about women when it comes to relationships. Stuck on Stupid includes some of the most voiced concerns. After reading this book, ask your mate to read it and highlight the areas he feels you need improvement. I think youll be surprised. Dont worry, your mate wont highlight the whole book ?. Whenever youre in a relationship you have to be willing to grow and make changes. Its part of the process. Love requires it. Nevertheless, I hope that by the end of this book you will have gained some insight about your behavior and begin to make the necessary adjustments in your life to allow you to experience REAL love. Blessings, Linda

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second Line Rescue: Improvised Responses to Katrina and Rita chronicles the brave and creative acts through which Gulf Coast people rescued their neighbors during the chaotic aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Ordinary citizens joined in with whatever resources they had. Unlike many of the official responders, vernacular rescuers found ways around paralysis produced by a breakdown in communications and infrastructure. They were able to dispel unfounded fears produced by erroneous or questionable reporting. The essays, personal narratives, media reports, and field studies presented here all have to do with effective and often ingenious answers that emerged from the people themselves. Their solutions are remarkably different from the hamstrung government response, and their perspectives are a tonic to sensationalized media coverage. The first part of the collection deals with Gulf Coast rescuers from outside stricken communities: those who, safe in their own homes and neighborhoods, marshaled their resources to help their fellow citizens. It includes some analysis and scholarly approaches, but it also includes direct responses and firsthand field reports. The second part features the words of hurricane survivors displaced from New Orleans and other Gulf Coast communities to Houston, Texas. In many cases, the “victims” themselves were the first responders, rescuing family, friends, and strangers. All of the stories, whether from the “outside” or “inside” responders, reveal a shared history of close-knit community bonds and survival skills sharpened by hard times. This book is about what went right in the aftermath of Katrina and Rita—in spite of all that went so wrong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It seems as though the frequency of natural disasters occurring around the nation and the world is increasing. Every day, there are new stories about earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, and forest fires ravaging some part of the globe. There's also the threat of terrorist attacks at home and abroad. More than ever before, we need to think about the unthinkable and not depend on government to protect us from harm. Highly regarded as a hero during the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Gen. Russel Honoré was the right leader at the right time. Combined with his extensive and impressive military background, his rugged upbringing in rural Louisiana gave him the experience and know-how in a hurricane-prone environment to lead the Katrina recovery effort. Survival is part personal memoir and part account of the events of Hurricane Katrina, but all in service to providing a useful guide filled with practical suggestions on how each of us can effectively respond to catastrophic events. The potentially devastating effects of natural disasters and terrorist attacks should not be taken lightly, and General Honoré explains how our culture has moved far from a mind-set to protect our communities from the harm that nature and our fellow humans can do. But we can learn from our experience and history and change our culture into one of preparedness -- as long as we have the will.

Book Heart Like Water

Download or read book Heart Like Water written by Joshua Clark and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-07-10 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Try it. Right now. Picture the lights going off in the room you're sitting in. The computer, the air conditioning, phones, everything. Then the people, every last person in your building, on the street outside, the entire neighborhood, vanished. With them go all noises: chitchat, coughs, cars, and that wordless, almost impalpable hum of a city. And animals: no dogs, no birds, not even a cricket's legs rubbing together, not even a smell. Now bump it up to 95 degrees. Turn your radio on and listen to 80 percent of your city drowning. You're almost there. Only twenty-eight days to go. Joshua Clark never left New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, choosing instead to band together with fellow holdouts in the French Quarter, pooling resources and volunteering energy in an effort to save the city they loved. When Katrina hit, Clark, a key correspondent for National Public Radio during the storm, immediately began to record hundreds of hours of conversations with its victims, not only in the city but throughout the Gulf: the devastated poor and rich alike; rescue workers from around the country; reporters; local characters who could exist nowhere else but New Orleans; politicians; the woman Clark loved, in a relationship ravaged by the storm. Their voices resound throughout this memoir of a unique and little-known moment of anarchy and chaos, of heartbreaking kindness and incomprehensible anguish, of mercy and madness as only America could deliver it. Paying homage to the emotional power of Joan Didion, the journalistic authority of Norman Mailer, and the gonzo irreverence of Tom Wolfe, Joshua Clark takes us through the experiences of loss and renewal, resilience and hope, in a city unlike any other. With lyrical sympathy, humility, and humor, Heart Like Water marks an astonishing and important national debut. A portion of the author's royalties from this book will go to the Katrina Arts Relief and Emergency Support (KARES) fund, which supports New Orleans-area writers affected by the storm.Visit www.NewOrleansLiteraryInstitute.com to find out how to make a direct and positive impact on the region.
