Dr. Kurt Svrcula has been living in Malaysia for the past 20 years. As Representative Director of Stanford Research Institute (SRI) International, Dr. Svrcula's principal area of work was in the area of technology management and development; industrial policy formulation and corporate and strategic planning for the public and private sector; and operations research and strategic information systems planning and development. A diver for the past 30 years, he is a noted underwater photographer and writer with a strong leaning towards environmental and conservation issues. He co-organised the Malaysian 2003 Celebrate the Sea Festival in cooperation with the World Festival of Underwater Images, Antibes Juan le Pins and the International Conference on Islands & Reefs Malaysia.He is a regular speaker at international conferences on issues such as economic development, leisure and sports tourism, marine tourism and conservation. He is a member of the Malaysian Society of Marine Sciences and Vice President of the International Windsurfing Association (IFCA).
