Book On the Divine Origin of Our Species

Download or read book On the Divine Origin of Our Species written by Darrel R. Falk and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible’s opening chapter includes these words: “So God created humans in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” We are created beings, with a unique status in creation. Nothing is more fundamental to Christian faith. Yet biologists present extensive data and provide a picture of how our species came to be, but there is no Creator in the intricate details of the painting they provide. If the scientific evidence for the evolution picture is reasonable—and, in general, it is—and if humans were indeed created from a common ancestor of the great apes, then what can be said about the Artist who Christians believe was at work? Vague answers are not satisfactory anymore—not in this scientific age. Recent mainstream data from paleoanthropology and genetics suggest that the basis of our species’ success was not that they were superior fighters. Rather, the reason our ancestors thrived was likely their ability to function cooperatively in groups—to respect each other and to get along. This reframes the question about the nature of the hovering Spirit’s activity in bringing our species into being. And that is the subject of this book.

Download or read book God and Nature written by Curtis L. Thompson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2012-03-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current religion and science dialogue begs for greater clarity on the relation of God to nature. In God and Nature two scholars who embrace contemporary insights from science and religion explore the complexities of this debate. As the narrative unfolds, classical and contemporary thinkers are engaged as discussion partners in articulating a philosophical theology of nature. Conceptual pairs, in which two concepts play off of each other, provide the structure for each of the seven chapters, with usually the first concept being more scientific in character and the second more religious in tone. These pairs of concepts-from chronology and creation to creativity and creator-help to thematize and structure the progressing narrative. Within each chapter the two concepts are first investigated independently, then interdependently, and finally in relation to the divine. At the story's completion nature has emerged as alive with possibility that is as alluring as the actuality it evokes. Envisioned is a divine Creator who works in and through the possibility of creation to lure it into fuller manifestations via creative transformation.

Download or read book In Search of God written by Mohamed Gad and published by iuniverse.com. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author shares his personal journey while investigating religious scriptures for evidence to support the presence of Divine Revelation. The first section of the book begins with discussions supporting the existence of God and refuting Darwin; yet also arguing for the co-existence of evolution and creation. Subsequently, in the second section of the book, the author examines the Koranic claim that the advent of the prophet Muhammad is foretold in the Torah and the Gospel (Koran 7:157). The author traces this claim, beginning with Ishmael, the father of the Arabs, whose Hebrew name means God Hears . The Bible foretells that Ishmael's descendents would have a Great Nation (Genesis 17:20, KJV). In fulfillment of this promise Ishmael's sons Kedar and Tema (Genesis 25:13-15) are part of Isaiah's prophetic vision, (Isaiah 21:11-17 and 42:1-11) as mentioned in the Old Testament's Book of Isaiah. In the third section of this book the difficult yet challenging controversy surrounding the identity of Jesus, a major point of contention between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, is examined. The fourth part of this book deals mainly with Koranic scientific facts that only became common knowledge with recent discoveries. Finally, this book closes by examining the spiritual essence and commonalities of the world's three major religions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Grand Design By: William R. Arnold, Edited by Ms. Aurora Payad-Arnold God’s Grand Design is to restore mankind to its original state of sacred perfection after Adam and Eve fell and created the original sin of disobedience, hiding, and lying to the Lord. When God cursed the serpent for tempting Adam and Eve to be like God, he promised to send his only begotten Son to save humanity. He did via the incarnate word in the womb of the immaculately conceived Virgin Mary. God wants to be man and receive a new body to defeat death through Jesus Christ. Man wants to become God to receive eternal life. Man’s journey to become God starts from being an ignorant baby gaining knowledge, to a cowardly teenager obtaining courage, to an adult converting greed to generosity, to a wise man changing selfishness to unselfishness, and at last, to a free man able to think for himself in eternal service to God in his kingdom. The journey requires him to know right from wrong, good from evil, and God’s will from man’s will and thus defeat evil, worldly temptations, and demonic possession. Through Christ, God and man are destined to become one through three advents, making the God/Man Christ into the new human spirit (blessings). Then, the Man/God Jesus becomes the new human flesh to make all things perfect in the sight of God. Jesus Christ came as a priest on a donkey to decode the Torah, bring knowledge, and remove blindness to defeat sin. By his death and resurrection, he granted free redemption to man’s flesh to give him a new body. The second coming of Jesus Christ as thief in the night will bring awakening to remove deafness by teaching God’s truths to defeat evil. As a just judge on a cloud on his third advent, the Lord will remove mankind’s dumbness to defeat death. And then man can become worthy of receiving God’s rewards of paradise in heaven or heaven on earth.

Book Inner Theatres of Good and Evil

Download or read book Inner Theatres of Good and Evil written by Mark Pizzato and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the most intriguing questions of neurology is how conceptions of good and evil arise in the human brain. In a world where we encounter god-like forces in nature, and try to transcend them, the development of a neural network dramatizing good against evil seems inevitable. This critical book explores the cosmic dimensions of the brain's inner theatre as revealed by neurology, cognitive science, evolutionary psychology, psychoanalysis, primatology and exemplary Western performances. In theatre, film, and television, supernatural figures express the brain's anatomical features as humans transform their natural environment into cosmic and theological spaces in order to grapple with their vulnerability in the world.

Book Making Sense of Evolution

    Book Details:
  • Author : John F. Haught
  • Publisher : Westminster John Knox Press
  • Release : 2010-02-16
  • ISBN : 1611641322
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Making Sense of Evolution written by John F. Haught and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2010-02-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evolution makes good scientific sense. The question is whether it makes good theological sense as well. Christians who find evolution contrary to faith often do so because they focus solely on the issues of the world's design and the notion of the gradual descent of all life from a common ancestry. But that point of view overlooks the significance of the dramatic narrative going on beneath the surface. What evolution is has become more important than what it means. Haught suggests that, rather than necessarily contradicting one another, theologians and Darwinian scientists actually share an appreciation of the underlying meaning and awe-inspiring mystery of evolution. He argues for a focus on evolution as an ongoing drama and suggests that we simply cannot-indeed need not-make complete sense of it until it has fully played out. Ultimately, when situated carefully within a biblical vision of the world as open to a God who makes all things new, evolution makes sense scientifically and theologically.
