Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16, ESV) Amen does not mean “the end,” rather “I agree” or “I confirm.” The sin of adultery is not only physical but spiritual as well. We are justified (forgiven of sin) at the point of conversion, but sanctification (being made holy) is a lifelong process. The curtain torn at Jesus’s crucifixion was over six inches thick and sixty feet tall. The Tree of Life is the real reason Adam and Eve were banished from the garden. Satan, once the morning star of heaven, the model of perfection, did not fall from heaven, he was shoved out by God for his arrogance and pride. George T. Yapuncich, a pastor, mentor, husband, father, farmer and retired international businessman, reflects on these and hundreds of other terms, doctrines and biblical thoughts in this anthology prepared for contemplation and growth in biblical understanding. Its purpose is to open God’s Word to comprehend His glory and majesty more fully. Each term is exhibited in a Bible verse, demonstrating its importance and usage. Through direct application the reader can more fully grasp the true connotation of these terms thus invoking thoughts and feelings over and above their primary or literal meanings. This is not a book of definitions, but a book of images. Its purpose is to encourage the inquisitive mind in not only mining God’s Word, but to more fully live out His Word in thought and deed.

Others, serious; a few, personal. Not surprising, many of you may find a few of my musings a bit shocking, especially those who are not theologically conservative. Book Divine Suffering

Download or read book Divine Suffering written by Andrew J. Schmutzer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divine Suffering is an inter-disciplinary study that draws from systematics, philosophy, biblical theology, and pastoral experience. In addition to covering topics like the suffering of the Father in the Son and God’s cruciform vulnerability, this book also explores how divine suffering animates the Christian gospel and resonates in the ongoing persecution of believers. The study of the suffering God has everything to do with Theology, History, and Church Mission. Like exploring a cathedral from all its entrances, both scholars and seekers will find ample opportunity for theological challenge, biblical insight, and missional hope. To accomplish this, both Scripture and doctrine are closely investigated. Today, divine suffering must face the contemporary realities of protest atheism, escalating wars, new studies in relational theology, and dialogical personhood that presses the need to explain a Christian message about the kind of God who is not only transcendent but also personal. Divine Suffering introduces us to the history of God, not just the God of history. In this study, we meet a God available to our pain though not diminished by it. Mounting forms of grief need to be met with an equally pastoral understanding that validates suffering without valorizing it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In crafting racial visions of the modern world, European thinkers appropriated the Christian doctrine of providence, constructing the idea of European humanity’s rule over the globe on the model of God’s rule over the universe. As a powerful ordering theory of the relationship between God and creation, time and space, self and other, the doctrine served as an intellectual framework for the theorization of whiteness, as the male European subject replaced Jesus Christ as the human being at the center of world history. Through an analysis of the work of G.W.F. Hegel, Karl Barth, and James H. Cone, God, Race, and History examines this subversion of the Christian doctrine of providence, as well as subsequent attempts within modern Protestant theology to liberate the doctrine from its captivity to whiteness. It then develops a constructive political theology of providence in conversation with Delores S. Williams and M. Shawn Copeland, discerning Jesus Christ at work through the Holy Spirit in the struggles of ordinary, overlooked, and oppressed human creatures to survive and to carve out a flourishing life for themselves, their communities, and their world.
