Su originalidad metodológica responde a un conjunto de rasgos que la identifican y que la constituyen en una pieza de obligada consulta: a) la perspectiva interdisciplinaria que la nutre: sociología, derecho y lingüística; b) el abordaje investigativo a partir de la intersección entre el análisis lingüístico y c) la investigación cualitativa, y la observación tanto de los discursos con los que se reproducen las diversas formas de ordenación, jerarquización, dominación social como de aquellos otros que las cuestionan fundándose en modelos interpretativos alternativos a los dominantes. La originalidad teórica, a su vez, está anclada en la decisión de optar por un proceso investigativo enderezado más a la producción que a la reproducción acrítica del conocimiento, lo que la lleva a proseguir el camino inductivo a fin de crear teoría a partir de los datos y a realizar propuestas conceptuales innovadoras, desarrolladas en el Glosario de conceptos. La originalidad epistemológica, finalmente, descansa en la propuesta de la Epistemología del Sujeto Conocido, en la cual se fundan las distintas investigaciones y que abre la posibilidad, de una parte, a la vigencia y aceptación de nuevas formas de conocer sustentadas en el principio de igualdad esencial y, de otra, al reconocimiento de la idéntica capacidad de conocer de todos y cada uno de los seres humanos.

It focuses on the relationships between diversity and inequality in access to mental healthcare through the discourse practices, tactics and strategies deployed by patients with widely varying cultural, linguistic and social backgrounds. As an action-research process, it helped change communicative practices at the Hospital’s outpatient mental healthcare service. The book focuses on the entire process and its outcomes, arguing in favor of a critical, situated perspective on discourse analysis, theoretically and practically oriented to social change. It also proposes a different approach to doctor-patient communication, usually conducted from an ethnocentric perspective which does not take into account cultural, social and economic diversity. It reviews many topics that are somehow classical in doctor-patient communication analysis, but from a different point of view: issues such as the sequential organization of primary care encounters, diagnostic formulations, asymmetry and accommodation, etc., are now examined from a locally grounded ethnographic perspective. This change is not only theoretical but also political, as it helps understand patient practices of resistance, identity-making and solidarity in contexts of inequality.

By confronting the central civilizations in history, the egalitarian, life-oriented matriarchal one, and the hierarchical, nature and life dominating, hostile patriarchal one, we see that 5000 years of patriarchy have «replaced» matriarchies and nature itself by a «progressive» counter-world of «capital». This transformation characterizes «capitalist patriarchy» including «socialism». Its demise is due to the «alchemical» destruction of the world's resources, thought of, theologically legitimized and fetishized as «creation». This violence is not recognized. Elites have, instead, begun with a new «military alchemy», treating the whole Planet as weapon of mass destruction. Hence, the «Planetary Movement for Mother Earth».

If it was axiomatic that the goal of human society should be the common good, then this notion presented at least two conceptual alternatives. Did it embody the highest moral ideals of happiness and the life of virtue, or did it represent the more pragmatic benefits of peace and material security? Political thinkers from Thomas Aquinas to William of Ockham answered thisquestion in various contexts. In theoretical terms, they were reacting to the rediscovery of Aristotle's Politics and Ethics, an event often seen as pivotal in the history of political thought. On a practical level, they were faced with pressing concerns over the exercise of both temporal and ecclesiastical authority - resistance to royal taxation and opposition to the jurisdiction of the pope. In establishing the connections between these different contexts, The Common Good questions the identification of Aristotle as the primary catalyst for the emergence of 'the individual' and a 'secular' theory of the state. Through a detailed exposition of scholastic political theology, it argues that the roots of any such developments should be traced, instead, to Augustine and the Bible.
