Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As each step of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is approached, time is needed for listening for God's presence. This period of discernment allows the inquirer, the catechumen, or elect, a chance to consider how God is acting in his or her life and where God is calling the individual. Discernment in Christian Initiation assists initiation ministers with guiding people to listen to what God is doing in their lives and where God is leading them. The resource also aids initiation ministers as they help catechized and uncatechized baptized Christians seeking to be received into the Church to discern God's movement in their lives. A chapter focused on children provide initiation ministers with an understanding of how to discern the reasons for initiation with the parents and child as well as the needs of the child. This volume is an invaluable reference for sponsors and other guides who journey with RCIA candidates. It describes the decision-making process and how people have experienced it. The book serves to improve the listening skills of guides and helps them ask the right questions at the right time. The appendix contains specific suggestions for interviews during the four stages of the Christian initiation process and offers a format for a discernment day before the Rite of Election.

Download or read book The Discerning Life written by Stephen Macchia and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2022-03-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual discernment is a key theme in the Scriptures. From the Garden when Adam and Eve turned away from the simplest terms of a relationship with God, to the Garden when John the Apostle wrote the book of Revelation to a distracted people anticipating eternity, discerning God has been the heart of the matter. In modern times, however, we have forgotten the basic premise of practicing a preference for God, out of which we then are invited to live for God. Instead, we have implanted strategic planning, head-to-head battling, and will-of-God knowing in its place. In The Discerning Life, Stephen A. Macchia seeks to upend the one-eyed and limited Christian understandings of spiritual discernment and invite readers and leaders to reconsider how they prioritize the care of their souls, the grace of their communities, and the mission of their lives, churches, and organizations. When we have a fuller understanding of how spiritual discernment matters to the whole of our lives, we will in turn encourage others to follow likewise and then lean fully into the mission, mandate, and message of the whole counsel of God.

Download or read book Discerning the Spirit s written by Amos Yong and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efforts to construct a Christian theology of religions have inevitably stumbled on the Christian scandal of particularity—the historical Jesus of Nazareth. What, however, if we began by focusing on the universal presence and activity of God in the world as symbolized by the Holy Spirit? Yong develops just such a pneumatological approach to religions, drawing, by way of resource, on the Pentecostal-charismatic experience of the Spirit. This book thus invites Pentecostals, charismatics, and other Christians to conceive of how a pneumatological approach to religions can invigorate the wider ecumenical conversation. At the same time, it also brings recent Pentecostal-charismatic scholarship into dialogue with a broader audience, including those interested in philosophical theology, world religions, global spiritualities, and comparative religion and theology.

Download or read book Discerning Perceptive written by Sister Glory G. Thompson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of my birth is similar to my life's story. I was born in the mist of a rain storm, which shouldn't be confused with the weather. I thank God for surviving me to live through many more storms even after the first. I was born into a world of hate, and the Lord has carried me through a life of envy, strife, and confusion as a child, only to strengthen me spiritually; to meekly stand bold on his words as a free spirited grown woman. My Father sent me to be born unto an extended family of 8 siblings. My oldest brother was the only sibling whose infallible love accepted me on the day of my birth. The others had to adjust to the idea of having me around. As a child, I knew and understood how the impurities of the world makes people think they are better than others. After my childhood experiences, I've grown to understand that people love to put others down to build themselves up. Putting down the dignities of others, gives them a false sense of hope of being more virtuously religious and closer to God than those whom they despise. What strengthens me to weather the storms of my life is the love of my Father who sent me unto the world for a season, and knowing he loves me in spite of my imperfections. He ordained me to share my pain with the world, not to influence the world to have worldly sympathy, but to gain the hearts of them to have empathy, to understand that their faults and failings has not the power to prevail against the will of God's love for all mankind. When the blood of Jesus was shed he died to save all without excluding any. It is by the all merciful, love and grace of God that all mankind are free spirited individuals who are taught not by man, but by the anointed. 2Cor.13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
