Download or read book The Sustainable City VI written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 753 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addresses the multi-disciplinary aspects of urban planning, a result of the increasing size of cities, the amount of resources and services required and the complexity of modern society. Innovative tools are required for identifying the high complexity of contemporary cities. It is necessary to provide a more scientific approach to urban studies, inspired by Prigogine's theories of dissipative structures, and to highlight relations between different systems and between systems and the environment. The challenge of placing sustainable contemporary cities lies in considering the dynamics of urban systems, exchange of energy and matter and the function and maintenance of ordered structures directly or indirectly supplied and maintained by natural systems. The task of researchers, aware of the complexity of the contemporary city, is to increase the capacity to manage human activities pursuing welfare and prosperity in sustainable cities.

Download or read book The City and Its Sciences written by Cristoforo S. Bertuglia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 915 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments in the field of urban analysis and management are investigated in this book. It is a wide-ranging collection of essays on the subject drawn from a long-term project and seminar, held in Italy, to review the state of the art and speculate on the future influence on the "sciences of the city" of the complexity concept. Of particular interest is the variety of points of view, often contrasting, and the attempt to go beyond the conventional approaches to the analysis, and the planning of the city. While focussing mainly on the European (and in particular Italian) context, the discussion is of general relevance and valuable to anyone concerned with the prospects for the city in the new millenium.

Download or read book Understanding Mobilities for Designing Contemporary Cities written by Paola Pucci and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores mobilities as a key to understanding the practices that both frame and generate contemporary everyday life in the urban context. At the same time, it investigates the challenges arising from the interpretation of mobility as a socio-spatial phenomenon both in the social sciences and in urban studies. Leading sociologists, economists, urban planners and architects address the ways in which spatial mobilities contribute to producing diversified uses of the city and describe forms and rhythms of different life practices, including unexpected uses and conflicts. The individual sections of the book focus on the role of mobility in transforming contemporary cities; the consequences of interpreting mobility as a socio-spatial phenomenon for urban projects and policies; the conflicts and inequalities generated by the co-presence of different populations due to mobility and by the interests gathered around major mobility projects; and the use of new data and mapping of mobilities to enhance comprehension of cities. The theoretical discussion is complemented by references to practical experiences, helping readers gain a broader understanding of mobilities in relation to the capacity to analyze, plan and design contemporary cities.

Download or read book The Italian Urban System written by Piero Bonavero and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999, this volume situates the Italian urban system within a European context, examining the best approach to integration. Connections between urban development, territorial cohesion and the European urban system have been clearly identified by Europe 2000 (1991) and identified as primary instruments for achieving social and economic cohesion and competitiveness as per the Treaty of Maastricht and the White Paper, Growth, Competitiveness, Employment (1993). This book aids this endeavour through featuring contributions on cities as nodes of transport networks, economic change, the demographic transition, the local milieu, regional cohesion and global networks and how the system can integrate into European urban networks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is intra-urban mobility, namely the diverse forms of mobility occuring within a city: from residential mobility to daily mobility, the latter understood both as commuting and as urban travel for leisure. The specific aim of the volume is to explore mobility in the city at different times, from the XVIIth century to today, and to relate it to the respective social dynamics from different standpoints, moving back and forth from the building to the neighbourhood and the wider metropolis, from Tunis to Paris, from Naples to Barcelone, passing through Rome, Milan and Marseille. The approach adopted is strongly multidisciplinary. The authors come from different disciplines - from History to Demography, from Sociology to Geography -, which has allowed to decline the study of intra-urban mobility both through a look at individuals and their mobility practices and from a territorial and historical context. In so doing, a set of urban issues has been considered, such as social mobility, metropolization processes, migrations and inequalities, access to real estate market.

This book was released on 2012-01-23 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. [English]: The design work carried out on the city of Frattaminore represented, for the students in the last year of the Master’s Program in Architecture 5UE, an important experiment, from a design and professional point of view, towards the development of an approach aimed at finding an adequate and factual response to the multiple needs posed by the reality of the context in which it operates. The book collects the results of the work carried out during the 2020-2021 academic year, highlighting the multiplicity of aspects and design topics addressed, as well as the variety of the proposed solutions. The structure of the book reflects this experimental approach, starting with the exploration of some preliminary topics and methods, examined in the “Essays” section; continuing through the tool of the “mapping” and the interaction with the environment and with the people who live the places; finally, working on assembling and defining a “synthesis” of data and investigations through the design proposals, described in the “Projects” section. Each project theme includes a theoretical study through an introductory essay, and several design variations to provide, in an alternative way, possible scenarios for the city. To try to solve the existing critical issues, yet to enhance the potential and the various heritage of the city of Frattaminore, the project proposals were built grafting into the existing, not oriented towards the definition of a closed form and a predetermined function. On the contrary, it has implied to work on the idea of an open form, which reuses what already exists, including multiple possibilities of use and continuously changing its perimeter, extending and incorporating urban pieces of different nature. Scenarios of new possible meanings and new urban transformations are, therefore, the result of this work, made up of different levels of study and research related to the general idea of Frattaminore as a city in transition.
Download or read book La citt della post produzione written by Sara Marini and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2014-02-20 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Note oltre la realtà.
