Book Digital Flight Control Software Validation Study

Download or read book Digital Flight Control Software Validation Study written by Edward R. Rang and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of designing, verifying, and validating software for digital flight control systems are reviewed to study how the new software engineering tools and techniques may be incorporated into the development process. This shows how automated methodologies will provide error-free flight control software at lower costs. The need for expensive, lengthy test programs is reduced by analytical methods. The quality of the software is demonstrated with higher confidence when designs are structured to facilitate the subsequent verification steps. The military standards relating to flight control systems are reviewed, and modifications to include provisions for software verification are recommended. (Author).

Book An Assessment of Space Shuttle Flight Software Development Processes

Download or read book An Assessment of Space Shuttle Flight Software Development Processes written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1993-02-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective software is essential to the success and safety of the Space Shuttle, including its crew and its payloads. The on-board software continually monitors and controls critical systems throughout a Space Shuttle flight. At NASA's request, the committee convened to review the agency's flight software development processes and to recommend a number of ways those processes could be improved. This book, the result of the committee's study, evaluates the safety, oversight, and management functions that are implemented currently in the Space Shuttle program to ensure that the software is of the highest quality possible. Numerous recommendations are made regarding safety and management procedures, and a rationale is offered for continuing the Independent Verification and Validation effort that was instituted after the Challenger Accident.

Book Digital Flight Control System Validation

Download or read book Digital Flight Control System Validation written by Donald Eldredge and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of advanced technologies, new design concepts, and sophisticated high integrity integrated software-based digital flight control and avionics systems has confronted the FAA with the task of reviewing, revising, and updating its airworthiness assessment criteria in these areas. The FAA needs to establish and maintain systems engineering expertise as well as a capability to establish/evaluate validation/verification procedures for software-based digital systems. In order to accomplish this objective, the FAA must have expertise in fault-insertion techniques, emulation, automated reliability analyses, failure modes and effects analyses, fault-tree graphics, and other analytical tools. In addition, these skills are needed in order to interpret and evaluate data and information submitted, during the certification, process, in compliance with RTCA DO-178 and FAA Advisory Circular 25:1309-XX. This paper discusses techniques, methodologies, data, and information required for digital flight control and avionics systems validation. (Author).

Book Validation of Digital Systems in Avionics and Flight Control Applications Handbook

Download or read book Validation of Digital Systems in Avionics and Flight Control Applications Handbook written by Ellis F. Hitt and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this handbook is to identify techniques, methodologies, tools, and procedures in a systems context that may be applicable to aspects of the validation and certification of digital systems at specific times in the development, and implementation of software based digital systems to be used in flight control/avionics applications. The application of these techniques in the development of discrete units and/or systems will result in completion of a product or system which is verfiable and can be validated in the context of the existing regulations/orders of the government regulatory agencies. The handbook uses a systems engineering approach to the implementation and testing of software and hardware during the design, development, and implementation phases. The handbook also recognizes and provides for the evaluation of the pilot's workload in the utilization of the new control/display technology, especially when crew recognition and intervention may be necessary to cope with/recover from the effects of faults or failures in the digital systems or the crew introduces errors into the system under periods of high workload due to some inadvertent procedure or entry of incorrect or erroneous data.
