Book excerpt: This book fills an important gap in studies on D. D. Kosambi. For the first time, the mathematical work of Kosambi is described, collected and presented in a manner that is accessible to non-mathematicians as well. A number of his papers that are difficult to obtain in these areas are made available here. In addition, there are essays by Kosambi that have not been published earlier as well as some of his lesser known works. Each of the twenty four papers is prefaced by a commentary on the significance of the work, and where possible, extracts from technical reviews by other mathematicians.

Book Diffeology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Patrick Iglesias-Zemmour
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.
  • Release : 2013-04-09
  • ISBN : 0821891316
  • Pages : 467 pages

Download or read book Diffeology written by Patrick Iglesias-Zemmour and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffeology is an extension of differential geometry. With a minimal set of axioms, diffeology allows us to deal simply but rigorously with objects which do not fall within the usual field of differential geometry: quotients of manifolds (even non-Hausdorff), spaces of functions, groups of diffeomorphisms, etc. The category of diffeology objects is stable under standard set-theoretic operations, such as quotients, products, co-products, subsets, limits, and co-limits. With its right balance between rigor and simplicity, diffeology can be a good framework for many problems that appear in various areas of physics. Actually, the book lays the foundations of the main fields of differential geometry used in theoretical physics: differentiability, Cartan differential calculus, homology and cohomology, diffeological groups, fiber bundles, and connections. The book ends with an open program on symplectic diffeology, a rich field of application of the theory. Many exercises with solutions make this book appropriate for learning the subject.

Book Invariant Random Fields on Spaces with a Group Action

Download or read book Invariant Random Fields on Spaces with a Group Action written by Anatoliy Malyarenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author describes the current state of the art in the theory of invariant random fields. This theory is based on several different areas of mathematics, including probability theory, differential geometry, harmonic analysis, and special functions. The present volume unifies many results scattered throughout the mathematical, physical, and engineering literature, as well as it introduces new results from this area first proved by the author. The book also presents many practical applications, in particular in such highly interesting areas as approximation theory, cosmology and earthquake engineering. It is intended for researchers and specialists working in the fields of stochastic processes, statistics, functional analysis, astronomy, and engineering.

Book The Moment Maps in Diffeology

Download or read book The Moment Maps in Diffeology written by Patrick Iglesias-Zemmour and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This memoir presents a generalization of the moment maps to the category {Diffeology}. This construction applies to every smooth action of any diffeological group G preserving a closed 2-form w, defined on some diffeological space X. In particular, that reveals a universal construction, associated to the action of the whole group of automorphisms Diff (X, w). By considering directly the space of momenta of any diffeological group G, that is the space g* of left-invariant 1-forms on G, this construction avoids any reference to Lie algebra or any notion of vector fields, or does not involve any functional analysis. These constructions of the various moment maps are illustrated by many examples, some of them originals and others suggested by the mathematical literature."--Publisher's description.

Book Symmetry and Economic Invariance

Download or read book Symmetry and Economic Invariance written by Ryuzo Sato and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry and Economic Invariance (second enhanced edition) explores how the symmetry and invariance of economic models can provide insights into their properties. Although the professional economist of today is adept at many of the mathematical techniques used in static and dynamic optimization models, group theory is still not among his or her repertoire of tools. The authors aim to show that group theoretic methods form a natural extension of the techniques commonly used in economics and that they can be easily mastered. Part I provides an introduction that minimizes prerequisites including prior knowledge of group theory. Part II discusses recent developments in the field.
