Book Dictionary of Italian Slang Classic Reprint

Download or read book Dictionary of Italian Slang Classic Reprint written by A. Sandri White and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dictionary of Italian Slang This dictionary is meant as a supplement to the conventional, standard works of reference. It contains many hundreds of words and expressions that have either been completely omitted from the "regular" dictionaries or that are listed by them under a different meaning; for the first group, see appendix a), while for the second group appendix b) contains a number of examples. Since this is not intended to be a scientific study but a practical manual, no attempt has been made to distinguish each entry as to its "level" or to classify dialect terms according to their region of origin; this is rather difficult - in certain cases quite impossible. About twenty years ago, words such as fesso and pignolo would have been considered as southern dialect; today, they are not even slang, just popular terms understood wherever Italian is spoken. The same may be said about ramazza and toso which are of northern origin but now are popular all over the country, with the possible exception of the regions south of Rose.
