Book Determining the Attitudes of Elementary School Teachers

Download or read book Determining the Attitudes of Elementary School Teachers written by Colleen Winis and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global agenda for inclusive education led the Department of Education in Papua New Guinea to develop its policy on special education, which was then endorsed by the government to be implemented in all schools. The emphasis on inclusive education was to ensure that all children, both abled and disabled, were receiving education in schools in their community. The inclusive approach placed the onus on the regular classroom teachers, to establish an inclusive learning environment. This study focused on the factors that were influencing teachers‟ attitudes in the rural elementary schools. Numerous studies show that successful implementation of inclusion of children with special needs largely depends on teachers‟ positive attitudes towards inclusion. The results of this study revealed a number of influential factors on teacher‟s attitudes, it indicated that inclusion of children with disability into mainstream schools is challenging when individual teachers‟ level of knowledge about special education is limited. The aim of this study is to contribute knowledge relating to the elementary education sector in PNG.

Book Attitudes and Perceptions of Elementary School Teachers Regarding the Inclusion Model

Download or read book Attitudes and Perceptions of Elementary School Teachers Regarding the Inclusion Model written by Melissa J. Alves and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Teachers' attitudes toward including students with special needs play a significant role in determining the success or failure of the inclusion model. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teachers' perceived competence, satisfaction with related support services, satisfaction with the amount of training received, level of education and years of teaching experience and the attitude of teachers toward inclusion. A total of thirty elementary school teachers completed the Elementary School Teacher Survey, an adaptation of the Regular Education Initiative (REI) (Gemmell-Crosby & Hanzlik, 1994). A significant association was found between teachers' level of perceived competence, satisfaction with support services and their attitude toward inclusion. No significant association was found between teachers' level of education, specialized training and years of teaching experience with their attitude toward inclusion. Further research needs to be conducted to determine additional factors associated with teachers' attitudes. Implications for occupational therapists are also discussed.

Book excerpt: Teachers’ attitudes have been a subject of study and interest for many years. Originally published in 1986, this bibliography attempts to review the large field of research between the years 1965 and 1984. To identify all the sources of information, and to list documents that discuss research on teachers’ attitudes. It does not include an assessment of the quality of the research reported in the listed documents, however, the value is in its comprehensiveness. Users of the bibliography can locate the listed studies and then evaluate the studies using criteria relevant to their individual purposes.

Book Successful Educational Actions for Inclusion and Social Cohesion in Europe

Download or read book Successful Educational Actions for Inclusion and Social Cohesion in Europe written by Ramon Flecha (Ed.) and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph analyses and describes successful educational actions with a specific focus on vulnerable groups (i.e. youth, migrants, cultural groups e.g. Roma, women, and people with disabilities). Concrete data that shows success in school performance in subject matters such as math or language will be provided, as well as children, teachers and families accounts of the impact of this success. Alongside, there is an analysis of the relationship between these children’s educational performance with their inclusion or exclusion from different areas of society (i.e. housing, health, employment, and social and political participation). Many studies have already diagnosed and described the causes of educational and social exclusion of these vulnerable groups. This monograph, however, provides solutions, that is, actions for success identified through the INCLUD-ED project, thus providing both, contrasted data and solid theoretical background and development. Some examples of these actions are interactive groups (or heterogeneous grouping in the classroom with reorganisation of human resources), extension of the learning time, homework clubs, tutored libraries, family and community educative participation, family education, or dialogic literary gatherings. All these actions have been defined as successful educational actions, which mean that they lead to both efficiency and equity. Finally, recommendations for policy and practice are included and discussed.

Book excerpt: This book presents the research output of the Dutch project VTB-Pro, an internationally-oriented project that aimed at providing primary school teachers with the knowledge, abilities and attitudes that are necessary to implement science and technology education in their classes. An introductory chapter by Wynne Harlen and Pierre Lena positions this project in the international context. From the Foreword by Dr. Michel Rocard: I have been pleased to discover the VTB-Pro three-years project carried in the Netherlands (Broadening technological education in primary school). Focusing on professional development of teachers and presenting first hand testimonies and research, the present book demonstrates how to deal with this issue, so critical for a renewed pedagogy. With proper methods, the knowledge of science, the interest in science and technology, the pedagogical skills can all be improved among teachers who often have no or little affection for science.

Book Teacher Attitudes Toward Teaching Special Education Students in Their K 2 Classrooms in an Urban Setting

Download or read book Teacher Attitudes Toward Teaching Special Education Students in Their K 2 Classrooms in an Urban Setting written by Nancy Di Maggio and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of general education and special education teachers of kindergarten to second grade toward students with disabilities within their classes in 35 elementary schools in one New York City public school district. The instrument used was the Attitudes Towards Teaching All Students (ATTAS-mm) survey, which incorporated questions on teachers' attitudes toward students with disabilities as well as the number of years of teaching experience, special education experience, and the amount of participation in special education coursework to determine influence on teacher attitude. The data were analyzed using one-way and two-way ANOVAs to determine the differences of attitudes of the teachers toward students with special needs in their classrooms, and whether teaching experience, special education experience, and/or the amount of professional development had a positive impact on the attitude of the teachers. The results of this study revealed differences in general education and special education teacher attitude toward students with disabilities. In the Affective domain and the Behavioral domain, correlations were statistically significant. The analysis also revealed the unexpected finding that relationships in the Cognitive dimension were not significant. Results of this study can be used in teacher preparation programs for early childhood teachers and in professional learning opportunities for schools and school districts. Specifically, teachers must be prepared to teach students with special needs. According to Avalos (2011), professional learning for teachers is strongly recommended. Schools can facilitate the process, which is strengthened through experiences such as courses and educational learning opportunities. This study demonstrated the number of special education courses, and special education experience had a positive relationship to the attitudes of teachers. The negative, but statistically significant relationship between teaching experience and attitude demonstrated the need for hands-on teaching experiences. College teacher education programs should include additional courses that contain strategies to teach students with special needs and also include student teaching in special education settings for all teachers, not just special education teachers.
