Book Global Integration of Cross Functional Business Processes Within Multinational Companies

Download or read book Global Integration of Cross Functional Business Processes Within Multinational Companies written by Steffen Michael Wütz and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent decades, multinational companies (MNCs) have implemented business processes in their subsidiaries that cross-functionally organize activities of diverse business functions along structured sets from the sourcing of materials to distributing finished goods. For example, a subsidiary's cross-functional Demand Management (DM) process allies the demand planning of its marketing function with forecasting of its logistics function, manufacturing capabilities of its production function, and further activities of other business functions with the overall objectives to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction. However, since MNCs have implemented a cross-functional DM process in their subsidiaries, corporate management finds itself called upon to decide whether to globally integrate the DM processes of the firm's subsidiaries to increase economies of scale, scope, and learning, or to organize each DM process so that these are responsive to subsidiary specific differences in the local market context. The thesis takes up this issue by analyzing the global integration of cross-functional business processes within MNCs. The objectives are to explore 1) how MNCs balance the global integration and local responsiveness of cross-functional business processes among subsidiaries, 2) how to set an appropriate degree of global integration of such processes, and 3) how to globally integrate such processes effectively. To gain the necessary insight into these topics, the thesis encompasses three empirical studies which analyze 350 cross-functional business processes at 111 MNCs. The studies are thereby built on two theoretical governance concepts intersecting between International Management and Organization Theory (i.e., integration-responsiveness framework, concept of corporate control) as well as a quantitative method approach. The resulting governance approach is twofold. On the one hand, an appropriate degree of global integration o.

Book Designing Matrix Organizations that Actually Work

Download or read book Designing Matrix Organizations that Actually Work written by Jay R. Galbraith and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organization structures do not fail, says Jay Galbraith, but management fails at implementing them correctly. This is why, he explains, the idea that the matrix does not work still exists today, even among people who should know better. But the matrix has become a necessary form of organization in today's business environment. Companies now know that if they have multiple product lines, do business in multiple countries, and serve many customer segments through a variety of channels, there is no way they can avoid some kind of a matrix structure and the question most are asking is "How do we learn how to operate the matrix effectively?" In Designing Matrix Organizations That Actually Work, Galbraith answers this and other questions as he shows how to make a matrix work effectively.
