Book Gemeindeordnung und Kirchenzucht Johannes a Lascos Kirchenordnung f r London 1555 und die reformierte Konfessionsbildung

Download or read book Gemeindeordnung und Kirchenzucht Johannes a Lascos Kirchenordnung f r London 1555 und die reformierte Konfessionsbildung written by Judith Becker and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-06-30 with total page 607 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study describes the origins of early Reformed confessional development using the example of those congregations of religious refugees most heavily influenced by John Laski: the congregation at Emden and the Dutch and French Strangers’ Churches in London. At its center are questions about the congregation as the location of ecclesiology. The outlines of Laski’s theology--which viewed the congregation as the communion of the body of Christ--are described in comparison to the approaches of other Reformers and in relationship to daily reality in the second half of the sixteenth century. Working from a rich base of source materials, the author discusses the development of teachings on church offices and the practice of church discipline, thus illuminating the self-understanding of the three congregations. Becker shows how reciprocal influences and attempts to conform led to the unification of doctrine and community life within these congregations.

Book Weisheit und Pr destination

Download or read book Weisheit und Pr destination written by Armin Lange and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the attempt to overcome the crisis of knowledge in wisdom thought, even the non-Essene texts from Qumran developed the wisdom notion of a pre-existent order of being and history which was to be realised in the Eschaton. This notion was taken up in non-wisdom texts and elaborated into a dualistic ordering of the world and of history, structured in epochs. In this form the notion was used by the Essene community to deal theologically with their negative experience of reality (schism, persecution by Hasmonoaeans, delay of the Eschaton). The results of this investigation are thus able to confirm critical points of the thesis of G. von Rad that apocalyptic developed out of wisdom.

Book Martin Bucer and Sixteenth Century Europe

Download or read book Martin Bucer and Sixteenth Century Europe written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-11-28 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume work describes the significant activities of Martin Bucer, reformer in Strasbourg, and the profound influence he exerted on his contemporaries. The collection brings together sixty contributions in English, German and French by leading Bucer and sixteenth century scholars. They highlight Bucer's profile and style, his theology, his attitude towards social questions of his time, his work in the church, his relationships with contemporaries in the city of Strasbourg and all over Europe, his position on contemporary issues and how his peers perceived him — in short, the many facets of thought, actions, and influence of an important but largely neglected sixteenth century reformer. They also provide new insight into the victories and defeats of Protestantism, and on Bucer's role in the progress of the Reformation in Europe. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789004098862).
