Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The warnings are loud and clear: the world is dangerously overpopulated; natural resources are becoming scarce; catastrophic manmade global warming could lead to the death of our planet. Are these accurate predictions we ignore at our own peril, or are they politically motivated scare tactics designed to promote a radical agenda? In this important book, respected author E. Calvin Beisner brings biblical principles of theology, anthropology, and ethics to bear on these crucial questions. What do the Scriptures say about population, freedom/civil government, natural resources, and management of the environment? Is man meant to be servant, master, or steward of the earth? This compelling study will help everyone concerned about the future of the earth make informed decisions on strategic issues of our day.

Book Demography Culture and the Decline of America s Christian Denominations

Download or read book Demography Culture and the Decline of America s Christian Denominations written by George Hawley and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the state of Christianity in the United States, considering trends in religious beliefs and affiliation over the last forty years. It seeks to explain why so many of America’s largest denominations have witnessed such a dramatic decline during this period. It argues that, although there are many elements to this decline, the shrinking families of Americans—including American Christians—are a primary explanation for our aging and shrinking Christian congregations. Beyond establishing this explanation for organized decline, this book also offers a survey of the relevant research explaining why more and more Americans are deferring family formation and having fewer (in many cases, zero) children. It discusses the relevant social science research on this subject, which focuses heavily on the role of economic change. It also summarizes the relevant research on cultural change and the family, particularly the relationship between religious beliefs and activities and changing family norms.

Book Voting as a Christian The Economic and Foreign Policy Issues

Download or read book Voting as a Christian The Economic and Foreign Policy Issues written by Wayne A. Grudem and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2012-02-07 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God intended the Bible to give guidance to every area of life—including how governments should function. Derived from Wayne Grudem's Politics According to the Bible, this book highlights those economic and foreign-policy issues that have dominated political debate recently and is a must-read for any Christian concerned about current debates over: Economic issues and taxation. The size and role of government. The best way forward out of a recession. Relationships to other nations. Throughout, Wayne Grudem—author of the bestselling Systematic Theology—supports political positions that would be called more "conservative" than "liberal." However, "it is important to understand that I see these positions as flowing out of the Bible's teachings rather than positions I hold prior to, or independently of, those biblical teachings," he writes. "My primary purpose in the book is not to be liberal or conservative, or Democrat or Republican, but to explain a biblical worldview and a biblical perspective on issues of politics, law, and government." Not every reader will agree with the book's conclusions. But by grounding his analysis deeply on Scripture, Grudem has equipped Christians to better understand and respond to some of today's key political debates wisely and in a manner consistent with their primary citizenship as members and ambassadors of the kingdom of God.

Book The Bible and Immigration

    Book Details:
  • Author : Markus Zehnder
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2021-08-12
  • ISBN : 1725297981
  • Pages : 326 pages

Download or read book The Bible and Immigration written by Markus Zehnder and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questions relating to (im)migration are among the most heated topics on both sides of the Atlantic. Western societies have changed dramatically because of large-scale immigration in the last decades. Christians are also engaged in the discussion, attempting to find direction from the biblical texts. Overwhelmingly, persons in leading positions (both in the secular world and in churches and faith-based organizations) support the concept of “welcoming the stranger.” The Bible is seen by them as urging us to open the borders as wide as we can. In the broader population, however, reservations remain. This book, written by a Bible professor who has witnessed mass-migration first-hand, both in Europe and in the U.S., and who has been a migrant himself for over twenty years, attempts to step back and look at the whole of the complex biblical witness, instead of cherry-picking passages that further a specific agenda. It also looks at the salient data on the ground, in the fields of psychology, demography, economy, and security—data that can no longer be ignored when trying to apply the Bible in a responsible way. The book demonstrates the shortcomings of the vast majority of biblical and theological publications on the issue of (im)migration and presents a comprehensive argument for the use of wisdom and caution, and against short-sighted and emotionally driven policies supporting open borders.

Book Coping with Demographic Change A Comparative View on Education and Local Government in Germany and Poland

Download or read book Coping with Demographic Change A Comparative View on Education and Local Government in Germany and Poland written by Reinhold Sackmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With many OECD countries experiencing a decline in their populations, this book offers a theoretical model of coping with demographic change and examines different strategies that societies have used to come to terms with demographic change. In particular, it details the different ways that Germany and Poland have tried to cope with this challenge and reveals three conflicting strategies: expansion, reduction, and phasing out. Coverage includes: · How and why demographic change was used in Poland to expand the education system · The variance of linkage between demographic change and growth rates in different fields of education in a German Bundesland · Modes of reflexivity and personnel policy in German and Polish municipalities · Effects of demographic change and forms of coping on fiscal capacity and unemployment rates in German municipalities Coping with Demographic Change examines how and why societies cope with these detrimental effects. It conceptualizes the challenges a society faces as a result of demographic change and focuses on the processes by which actors, organizations and nation-states try to cope with this new situation.

Book Immigrants Evangelicals and Politics in an Era of Demographic Change

Download or read book Immigrants Evangelicals and Politics in an Era of Demographic Change written by Janelle S. Wong and published by Russell Sage Foundation. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As immigration from Asia and Latin America reshapes the demographic composition of the U.S., some analysts have anticipated the decline of conservative white evangelicals’ influence in politics. Yet, Donald Trump captured a larger share of the white evangelical vote in the 2016 election than any candidate in the previous four presidential elections. Why has the political clout of white evangelicals persisted at a time of increased racial and ethnic diversity? In Immigrants, Evangelicals, and Politics in an Era of Demographic Change, political scientist Janelle Wong examines a new generation of Asian American and Latino evangelicals and offers an account of why demographic change has not contributed to a political realignment. Asian Americans and Latinos currently constitute 13 percent of evangelicals, and their churches are among the largest, fastest growing organizations in their communities. While evangelical identity is associated with conservative politics, Wong draws from national surveys and interviews to show that non-white evangelicals express political attitudes that are significantly less conservative than those of their white counterparts. Black, Asian American, and Latino evangelicals are much more likely to support policies such as expanded immigration rights, increased taxation of the wealthy, and government interventions to slow climate change. As Wong argues, non-white evangelicals’ experiences as members of racial or ethnic minority groups often lead them to adopt more progressive political views compared to their white counterparts. However, despite their growth in numbers, non-white evangelicals—particularly Asian Americans and Latinos—are concentrated outside of swing states, have lower levels of political participation than white evangelicals, and are less likely to be targeted by political campaigns. As a result, white evangelicals dominate the evangelical policy agenda and are overrepresented at the polls. Also, many white evangelicals have adopted even more conservative political views in response to rapid demographic change, perceiving, for example, that discrimination against Christians now rivals discrimination against racial and ethnic minorities. Wong demonstrates that immigrant evangelicals are neither “natural” Republicans nor “natural” Democrats. By examining the changing demographics of the evangelical movement, Immigrants, Evangelicals, and Politics in an Era of Demographic Change sheds light on an understudied constituency that has yet to find its political home.
