Download or read book An Introduction to Solid State Diffusion written by Richard J. Borg and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The energetics and mechanisms of diffusion control the kinetics of such diverse phenomena as the fabrication of semiconductors and superconductors, the tempering of steel, geological metamorphism, the precipitation hardening of nonferrous alloys and corrosion of metals and alloys. This work explains the fundamentals of diffusion in the solid state at a level suitable for upper-level undergraduate and beginning graduate students in materials science, metallurgy, mineralogy, and solid state physics and chemistry. A knowledge of physical chemistry such as is generally provided by a one-year undergraduate course is a prerequisite, though no detailed knowledge of solid state physics or crystallography is required.

Download or read book Defects in Solids written by Richard J. D. Tilley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-10-10 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a thorough understanding of the chemistry and physics of defects, enabling the reader to manipulate them in the engineering of materials. Reinforces theoretical concepts by placing emphasis on real world processes and applications. Includes two kinds of end-of-chapter problems: multiple choice (to test knowledge of terms and principles) and more extensive exercises and calculations (to build skills and understanding). Supplementary material on crystallography and band structure are included in separate appendices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second issue, following DDF165-166, to cover recent progress in this field. As usual, priority in abstracting has been given to the most accessible work and, in particular, to those papers which furnish original data or report important new techniques, phenomena or anomalies, although there is also extensive overage of more qualitative features of diffusion and defect phenomena, of the predictions of computer models, and of theoretical studies.

Download or read book Nuclear Science Abstracts written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 900 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

This book was released on 1991-02-22 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international conference held in Berlin is the 12th in the series of meetings to provide the exchange of ideas and information by cyclotron builders and users throughout the world. The international character is confirmed by the number of countries represented, the general interest by the numbers of contributions and participants. The Berlin conference which was organized by the Hahn-Meitner-Institut Berlin, had about 220 participants from 22 countries with about 165 contributions, thereof 16 invited.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the 9th International Conference on Reactivity Solids in Krakow, Poland a group of about 25 international scientists held a special conference entitled "Transport in Nonstoichiometric Compounds" in late Aug. 1980 in Mogilany, Poland (near Krakow). This conference was well received in view of the interaction between the participants, as well as the resulting publication of the proceedings (Elsevier Scientific Publishing Company, 1982, edited by J. Nowotny). At this first conference the participants decided that it would be desirable to organize similar conferences at about two year intervals. Thus, a second meeting was held in late June, early July at Alenya, Pyrenees Orientales, France. This conference had a larger number of participants, about 50, but still managed to promote excellent interaction between all the participants. These proceedings, with editors G. Petot-Ervas, Hj. Matzke and C. Monty, have also been published by Elsevier as a special edition of the journal, Solid State lonics, Vol. 12 (1984). In view of the success of the initial two conferences, a third meeting was organized and held at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA., 16802, U.S.A. from 11 June 84 to 15 June 84. The proceedings of this conference are presented in the following text.
Download or read book Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering written by William D. Callister and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022 with total page 995 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering provides a comprehensive coverage of the three primary types of materials (metals, ceramics, and polymers) and composites. Adopting an integrated approach to the sequence of topics, the book focuses on the relationships that exist between the structural elements of materials and their properties. This presentation permits the early introduction of non-metals and supports the engineer's role in choosing materials based upon their characteristics. Using clear, concise terminology that is familiar to students, the book presents material at an appropriate level for student comprehension. This International Adaptation has been thoroughly updated to use SI units. This edition enhances the coverage of failure mechanism by adding new sections on Griffith theory of brittle fracture, Goodman diagram, and fatigue crack propagation rate. It further strengthens the coverage by including new sections on peritectoid and monotectic reactions, spinodal decomposition, and various hardening processes such as surface, and vacuum and plasma hardening. In addition, all homework problems requiring computations have been refreshed.
