Book Modern Methods of Optimization

Download or read book Modern Methods of Optimization written by Werner Krabs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the summer school "Modern Methods of Optimization", held at the Schlof3 Thurnau of the University of Bayreuth, October 1-6, 1990. Like other branches of applied mathematics the area of optimization is undergoing a rapid development since the beginning of the computer age. Optimizaiton methods are of increasing importance for both, science and industry. The aim of the summer school was to present state-of-the-art knowledge by inviting 12 specialists from Op timization (and related fields) to present their areas of activity in the form of survey talks. This volume contains 10 of these presentations in slightly extended form. Most lectures started from an undergraduate level and outlinad the developments up to the latest scientifique achievements. This enabled the audience, consisting of about 45 students and young researchers, to get an excellent overview of the latest trends in Optimization as w~ll as a grasp of the breadth of its potential applications. Equally important to the success of the summer school was the "nonmeasurable" part of the activities inherent in such a summer school. Here the inspiring atmosphere of a place like Thurnau helped to establish numerous contacts between "teachers" and "students". The summer school was organized by the Universitii. t Bayreuth together with the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt and was generously sponsored by the Volkswagen stiftung and the Universitii. tsverein Bayreuth. Their interest in the meeting and their support is hereby gratefully acknowledged.

Book Nonlinear and Robust Control of PDE Systems

Download or read book Nonlinear and Robust Control of PDE Systems written by Panagiotis D. Christofides and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in control of nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE) sys tems has been triggered by the need to achieve tight distributed control of transport-reaction processes that exhibit highly nonlinear behavior and strong spatial variations. Drawing from recent advances in dynamics of PDE systems and nonlinear control theory, control of nonlinear PDEs has evolved into a very active research area of systems and control. This book the first of its kind- presents general methods for the synthesis of nonlinear and robust feedback controllers for broad classes of nonlinear PDE sys tems and illustrates their applications to transport-reaction processes of industrial interest. Specifically, our attention focuses on quasi-linear hyperbolic and parabolic PDE systems for which the manipulated inputs and measured and controlled outputs are distributed in space and bounded. We use geometric and Lyapunov-based control techniques to synthesize nonlinear and robust controllers that use a finite number of measurement sensors and control actuators to achieve stabilization of the closed-loop system, output track ing, and attenuation of the effect of model uncertainty. The controllers are successfully applied to numerous convection-reaction and diffusion-reaction processes, including a rapid thermal chemical vapor deposition reactor and a Czochralski crystal growth process. The book includes comparisons of the proposed nonlinear and robust control methods with other approaches and discussions of practical implementation issues.

Book Fault Tolerant Control of Nondeterministic Input Output Automata

Download or read book Fault Tolerant Control of Nondeterministic Input Output Automata written by Yannick Nke and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2013 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents novel methods of fault-tolerant control theory in a discrete-event system framework. Nondeterministic input/output automata are used to model nominal and faulty technological systems. The main contributions are the following: Control design method for discrete-event systems Fault modeling technique for actuator, sensor and system internal faults and failures Off-line and on-line control reconfiguration based on trajectory re-planning and input/output adaptation. Two small size running examples are used to explain the developed methods. Experiments on a manufacturing cell demonstrate the application of these methods in a realistic environment. The state of the art is provided on methods for modeling, supervisory control and fault-tolerant control of discrete-event systems.

Book Advanced Kalman Filtering Least Squares and Modeling

Download or read book Advanced Kalman Filtering Least Squares and Modeling written by Bruce P. Gibbs and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-03-29 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended primarily as a handbook for engineers who must design practical systems. Its primary goal is to discuss model development in sufficient detail so that the reader may design an estimator that meets all application requirements and is robust to modeling assumptions. Since it is sometimes difficult to a priori determine the best model structure, use of exploratory data analysis to define model structure is discussed. Methods for deciding on the “best” model are also presented. A second goal is to present little known extensions of least squares estimation or Kalman filtering that provide guidance on model structure and parameters, or make the estimator more robust to changes in real-world behavior. A third goal is discussion of implementation issues that make the estimator more accurate or efficient, or that make it flexible so that model alternatives can be easily compared. The fourth goal is to provide the designer/analyst with guidance in evaluating estimator performance and in determining/correcting problems. The final goal is to provide a subroutine library that simplifies implementation, and flexible general purpose high-level drivers that allow both easy analysis of alternative models and access to extensions of the basic filtering.
