Book Structural Mechanics

Download or read book Structural Mechanics written by Hassan Al Nageim and published by Pearson Education. This book was released on 2003 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Mechanics, has become established as a classic text on the theory of structures and design methods of structural members. The book clearly and logically presents the subject's basic principles, keeping the mathematical content to its essential minimum. The sixth edition has been revised to take into account changes in standards, and clarifies the content with updated design examples and a new setting of the text. The original simplicity of the mathematical treatment has been maintained, while more emphasis has been placed on the relevance of structural mechanics to the process of structural design, analysis, materials, and loads on buildings and structures according to the current British Standards and European codes of practice. The initial chapters of the book deal with the concept of loads and their effects on structural materials and elements in terms of stress and strain. The significance of the shape of the cross-section of structural elements is then considered. The book finishes with the design of simple structural elements such as beams, columns, rafters, portal frames, dome frames and gravity retaining walls.

Book Scaling of Structural Strength

Download or read book Scaling of Structural Strength written by Zdenek P. Bazant and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-06-28 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with a leading-edge topic of great interest and importance, exemplifying the relationship between experimental research, material modeling, structural analysis and design. It focuses on the effect of structure size on structural strength and failure behaviour. Bazant's theory has found wide application to all quasibrittle materials, including rocks, ice, modern fiber composites and tough ceramics. The topic of energetic scaling, considered controversial until recently, is finally getting the attention it deserves, mainly as a result of Bazant's pioneering work. In this new edition an extra section of data and new appendices covering twelve new application developments are included. - The first book to show the 'size effect' theory of structure size on strength - Presents the principles and applications of Bazant's pioneering work on structural strength - Revised edition with new material on topics including asymptotic matching, flexural strength of fiber-composite laminates, polymeric foam fractures and the design of reinforced concrete beams

Book Contact in Structural Mechanics

Download or read book Contact in Structural Mechanics written by Anh Le van and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-06-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contact in Structural Mechanics treats the problem of contact in the context of large deformations and the Coulomb friction law. The proposed formulation is based on a weak form that generalizes the classical principle of virtual powers in the sense that the weak form also encompasses all the contact laws. This formulation is thus a weighted residue method and has the advantage of being amenable to a standard finite element discretization. This book provides the reader with a detailed description of contact kinematics and the variation calculus of kinematic quantities, two essential subjects for any contact study. The numerical resolution is carried out in statics and dynamics. In both cases, the derivation of the contact tangent matrix – an essential ingredient for iterative calculation – is explained in detail. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency of the method.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanics of Materials presents the theory and practice of mechanics of materials in a straight-forward, student-friendly manner that addresses the learning styles of today's students without sacrificing rigor or depth in the presentation of topics. From basic concepts of stress and strain to more advanced topics like beam deflections and combined loads, this book provides students with everything they need to embark on successful careers in materials and mechanical engineering. Laying an emphasis on critical thinking forms, this text focuses on helping learners develop practical skills, encouraging them to recognize fundamental concepts relevant to specific situations, identify equations needed to solve problems, and engage with literature in the field. This International Adaptation has been thoroughly updated to use SI units. This edition strengthens the coverage by including methods such as moment area method and conjugate beam method for calculating deflection of beams, and a method for calculating shear stresses in beams of triangular cross section. Additionally, it includes Learning Assessments in a range of difficulty suitable for learners at various stages of development which elucidate and reinforce the course concepts.
