Book Dawning of the Corona Age

Download or read book Dawning of the Corona Age written by Johnny Freedom and published by . This book was released on 2020-08 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short, though comprehensive book, goes far beyond the immediate impact of the "pandemic", but, along with the reader, imagines how our human world may be altered, both positively and negatively, long into an uncertain future. Clearly, the economic, political and social impact is more long-lasting and harmful to human life than a seasonal infectious disease such as a generic "coronavirus" (i.e., a medical term that can imply a common cold or influenza) which generally fades in the summer and rises in the winter months every year. The overarching tyranny and authoritarian control systems being imposed are far more devastating in both the short and long-term effects than this virus. This pandemic has revealed the psychological makeup of our modern society, how fearful, apathetic and obedient many of us have become, how spoiled for comfort and convenience, how quickly some of us blame others for our problems and refuse to take responsibility, and how thoroughly we can avoid, resist and ignore the truth.Yet others are seeing the light at the end of this tunnel, the opportunity which may present ourselves to create a better world, not a dystopian nightmare. After being bombarded with contradictory and confusing health advice by numerous public health "experts" and our "friends" on social media, how can any of us remain in denial about the profound and life-changing implications of the rapid changes being foisted upon us. If we take off the blindfolds, we might very likely see a pre-planned and well-orchestrated pandemic, a "plandemic"? Let's remove the blindfolds and masks, take notice what's actually happening around us. It's to our benefit to do so.Let's take a good look at what we have learned so far and see how we can still "live free in an unfree world". Together, let's imagine a "Dawning of the Corona Age!"

Book Eisenhower at the Dawn of the Space Age

Download or read book Eisenhower at the Dawn of the Space Age written by Mark Shanahan and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2016-11-14 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historians have established a norm whereby President Eisenhower's actions in relation to the dawn of the space age are judged solely as a response to the Soviet launch of the Sputnik satellite, and are indicative of a passive, negative presidency. His low-key actions are seen merely as a prelude to the US triumph in space which is largely bookended first by President Kennedy’s man-to-the-moon pledge in 1961, and finally by Neil Armstrong’s moon landing eight years later. This book presents an alternative view of the development of space policy during Eisenhower’s administration, assessing the hypothesis that his space policy was not a reaction to the heavily-propagandized Soviet satellite launches, or even the effect they caused in the US political and military elites, but the continuation of a strategic journey. This study engages with three distinct but converging strands of literature and proposes a revised interpretation of Eisenhower’s actions in relation to rockets, missiles and satellites: namely that Eisenhower was operating on a parallel path to the established norm that started with the Bikini Atoll Castle H-bomb tests; developed through the CIA's reconnaissance efforts and was distilled in the Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 which set a policy for US involvement in outer space that matched Eisenhower’s desire for a balanced budget and fundamental belief in maintaining peace. President Eisenhower was not interested in joining a “space race”: while national security underpinned his thinking, his space policy actions were strategic steps that actively sidestepped internecine armed forces rivalry, and provided a logical next step for both civilian and military space programs at the completion of the International Geophysical Year. In reassessing the United States’ first space policy, the book adds to the revisionism under way in relation to the Eisenhower presidency, focusing on the “Helping Hands” that enabled him to wage peace.

Book Threshold Dwellers in the Age of Global Pandemic

Download or read book Threshold Dwellers in the Age of Global Pandemic written by Eleazar S. Fernandez and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-05-19 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So many lives have been lost now and the death toll still continues to rise because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The poor and the marginalized, not surprisingly, have been disproportionately affected. The pandemic has exposed the fault lines not only in our healthcare but also in our political and economic system, a system driven by the pursuit of the bottom line—profits. If we are not only to survive but also thrive as a global society, the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic must lead us to explore ways of thinking, being, and dwelling that promote our shared flourishing. It is time to take personal stock about ourselves: who we are, where we have been, and where we are heading. What can the pandemic teach us about ourselves? What is it revealing about us and our situation? How shall we dwell together? Do we want to wake up to a new and better tomorrow after this nighttime of pandemic? That will largely depend on the way we respond now. Who are we becoming in this time of pandemic? What daily practices are we doing as embodiments of the new world we are anticipating?

Book Dawn of the Electronic Age

Download or read book Dawn of the Electronic Age written by Frederik Nebeker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-05-06 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and fascinating account of electrical and electronics history Much of the infrastructure of today's industrialized world arose in the period from the outbreak of World War I to the conclusion of World War II. It was during these years that the capabilities of traditional electrical engineering—generators, power transmission, motors, electric lighting and heating, home appliances, and so on—became ubiquitous. Even more importantly, it was during this time that a new type of electrical engineering—electronics—emerged. Because of its applications in communications (both wire-based and wireless), entertainment (notably radio, the phonograph, and sound movies), industry, science and medicine, and the military, the electronics industry became a major part of the economy. Dawn of the Electronic Age?explores how this engineering knowledge and its main applications developed in various scientific, economic, and social contexts, and explains how each was profoundly affected by electrical technologies. It takes an international perspective and a narrative approach, unfolding the story chronologically. Though a scholarly study (with sources of information given in endnotes for engineers and historians of science and technology), the book is intended for the general public.?Ultimately, it tells the story of the development of a new realm of engineering and its widespread applications during the remarkable and tragic period of two world wars and the decades in between.

Book A New Dawn for Global Value Chain Participation in the Philippines

Download or read book A New Dawn for Global Value Chain Participation in the Philippines written by Guillermo Arenas and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2022-11-14 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Dawn for Global Value Chain Participation in the Philippines provides policy recommendations to increase the Philippines’ global value chain (GVC) participation in a post†“COVID-19 (coronavirus) world. The Philippines could indeed benefit from the shifting dynamics of GVCs by attracting more investments as investors look for alternative production sources less sensitive to trade tensions. The book uses up-to-date trade data, analysis of megatrends affecting selected value chains, and interviews with multinational companies and their local suppliers to inform a strategic approach to rethink, diversify, and reorient the country’s GVC participation. The main finding is that the crisis can help strengthen the country’s foreign direct investment attractiveness and motivate operators in GVCs to develop the domestic skills they need for more advantageous GVC participation. The book also explores policies to mobilize key stakeholders (government, lead firms, and domestic suppliers) and to foster participation in three strategic GVC clusters: industrial, manufacturing, and transportation; technology, media, and telecommunications; and health and life sciences.

Book The Calling of Global Responsibility

Download or read book The Calling of Global Responsibility written by Ananta Kumar Giri and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-03 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book rethinks and transforms the current discourse on globalization and global justice. It expands the idea of globalization from an economic or corporate context to mean humanization and planetary realizations — moving beyond the boundaries of nation-states and other human-made demarcations. The author challenges the notion of human primacy and makes a fervent call to reconfigure the paradigm of anthropocentrism. Through a careful study of movements for justice and inter-faith dialogue from across the world, the book makes a unique contribution to the emerging study of global responsibility. It also helps us overcome our current civilizational crises and cultivate a new civilization of planetary care and co-responsibility. As part of the Ethics, Human Rights and Global Political Thought series, the volume will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of law and society, especially social movements, political theory, and philosophy.
