Book excerpt: This work is about the experience of men in the field of Dance Movement Therapy, in relation to their gender identity. It consists of a theoretical part and a qualitative research. The participants are 11 male DMTs, students and professionals, from Europe and the United States. Over the course of two months, they answered a questionnaire of open questions, via mail, face-to-face and Skype interviews. The data, though, broad and varied, nevertheless, offer some interesting results: a) The gender identity influences the experience of men DMTs, in relation to their practice of dance movement therapy and vice versa, and b) The lack of men DMTs, leads to an imbalance in the field, and it is necessary that something is done, to motivate more men within the profession. The intention is to invite more critical reflection on the diverse gender experiences, in movement and in general, and how DMT can include and contain them.
