Book A Lateral Load Test of a Full Scale Pile Group in Sand

Download or read book A Lateral Load Test of a Full Scale Pile Group in Sand written by Clark Stephen Morrison and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lateral-load tests were performed on a large-scale, well-instrumented group of piles in sand. A similar single pile, also well-instrumented, was tested in the same soil. The group of piles and the single pile were installed in Houston for previous research projects. The native clay soil was removed from the upper portion of the piles and replaced with clean sand. Cyclic lateral loads were applied to the piles, and the response of the instrumentation was recorded. The results of the loads test of the group are compared with the results of current design methods. The methods include DEFPIG, the Focht-Koch method, the single-pile method, and the Bogard-Matlock method. Because none of the methods provided entirely satisfactory results, an analytical procedure is provided which yields good agreement with the results of the load-test.

Book Single Piles and Pile Groups Under Lateral Loading

Download or read book Single Piles and Pile Groups Under Lateral Loading written by Lymon C. Reese and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-12-15 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexities of designing piles for lateral loads are manifold as there are many forces that are critical to the design of big structures such as bridges, offshore and waterfront structures and retaining walls. The loads on structures should be supported either horizontally or laterally or in both directions and most structures have in common t

Book Pile groups under cyclic lateral loading

Download or read book Pile groups under cyclic lateral loading written by Christoph Niemann and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-01-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the aim of this research work is to investigate and to assess quatitatively as well as quantitatively the bearing behaviour of pile groups subjected to cyclic lateral loading. In this context, the influences of different boundary conditions, in particular the soil properties and the pile group geometry are to be analysed experimentally and numerically. Based on a brief literature review in chapter 2, model tests (centrifuge and small-scale at 1g) and numerical investigations have been carried out to contribute to a better understanding of the cyclic behaviour of pile groups. Chapter 3 describes the test procedure and summarises the results of centrifuge tests, which have been carried out at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems (COFS) in Perth, Australia. Further investigations have been carried out by means of smallscale model tests at 1g in the testing facilities at the University of Kassel, Germany, with the results as summarised in chapter 4. A comparison of individual results of both test series is provided in chapter 5. The numerical studies in chapter 6 have been carried out in order to analyse the general ability of numerical simulations to calculate the response of pile groups to cyclic lateral loading. Based on the previously derived results, chapter 7 provides equations that can be applied to estimate the cyclic accumulation of lateral displacements of pile groups as well as the cyclic changes of the load distribution within pile groups.

Book Full scale Lateral Load Test of a 3x5 Pile Group in Sand

Download or read book Full scale Lateral Load Test of a 3x5 Pile Group in Sand written by James Matthew Walsh and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The load resisted by the single pile was greater than the average load resisted by each pile in the pile group. While the loads resisted by the first row of piles (i.e. the only row deflected away from all other rows of piles) were approximately equal to that resisted by the single pile, following rows resisted increasingly less load up through the fourth row. The fifth row consistently resisted more than the fourth row. The pile group in sand resisted much higher loads than did the pile group in clay.

Book Statnamic Lateral Loading Testing of Full scale 15 and 9 Group Piles in Clay

Download or read book Statnamic Lateral Loading Testing of Full scale 15 and 9 Group Piles in Clay written by Rick Davon Broderick and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Damping ratios ranged from 23 to 50 percent for the 15-pile group and 29 to 49 percent for the 9-pile group. Both pile groups increased in damping as the deflections increased. The optimized mass in motion for the entire system was found to be roughly 21,000kg for the 15-pile group and 14,000 kg for the 9-pile group. Stiffness for the 15-pile group started at 50kN/mm and ended at 21kN/mm. The 9-pile group ranged from 28kN/mm to 12kN/mm.

Book Large Scale Pile Tests in Clay

Download or read book Large Scale Pile Tests in Clay written by Institution of Civil Engineers (Great Britain) and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1993-04-08 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1980's, research was being carried out to instrument and monitor the piled foundation beneath one leg of the BP Magnus platform in order to determine the actual loads imposed on the piles and seabed by the structural and environmental forces. This volume brings together the findings and discussions resulting from this research.

Book Full Scale Field Tests of Different Types of Piles

Download or read book Full Scale Field Tests of Different Types of Piles written by Jialin Zhou and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides full-scale field tests of different types of pile foundations. For the testing, it includes static load tests which consider various loading orientations, dynamic load tests, inclinometer monitoring and tests that aim to determine the load transfer mechanism of pile foundation. This book also covers the up-to-date popular topic with detailed project studies. This includes the academic investigation of post-grouting technology effect on drilled shaft piles, the research of displacement and non-displacement precast pile foundation, the study of fiber-reinforced polymer material used in the geo-technical environment such as deep excavation pit in tunneling project, and the research of super-long and large diameter pile foundations. These investigations provide essential and academic information for researchers as well as engineers in role of Civil and Geotech. Not only the different types of the piles are studied, but also the relevant theory and literatures are reviewed. In this book, the diagrams are plotted in an easy way and the explanation of the diagrams and tables are described in detail. The research methods corresponding to the practical projects are detailed as well. Hence, it is useful as a reference for the students and researchers in civil and geotechnical engineering.
