This book was released on 2004 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to document results of the determination of electrical resistivity characteristics of schist samples from the Gold Lake area of the Yellowknife mining district, Northwest Territories, for use in interpreting ground electromagnetic surveys that have been conducted in that region. Results are presented from investigations of electrical conductivity mechanisms determined for five sub-samples taken from two mineralized schist samples selected to characterize the resistivity of the alteration zone and to determine the effect of cross-cutting veins & of fine-grained sulphide minerals oriented parallel to foliation. Resistivity-related factors examined in the study include sulphide grain connectivity, the insulating quality of quartz & calcite grain layers, and pore-fluid connectivity.

Download or read book Handbook Of Climate Change And Agroecosystems Impacts Adaptation And Mitigation written by Daniel Hillel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-09-03 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The portending process of climate change, induced by the anthropogenic accumulations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, is likely to generate effects that will cascade through the biosphere, impacting all life on earth and bearing upon human endeavors. Of special concern is the potential effect on agriculture and global food security.Anticipating these effects demands that scientists widen their field of vision and cooperate across disciplines to encompass increasingly complex interactions. Trans-disciplinary cooperation should aim to generate effective responses to the evolving risks, including actions to mitigate the emissions of greenhouse gases and to adapt to those climate changes that cannot be avoided. This handbook presents an exposition of current research on the impacts, adaptation, and mitigation of climate change in relation to agroecosystems. It is offered as the first volume in what is intended to be an ongoing series dedicated to elucidating the interactions of climate change with a broad range of sectors and systems, and to developing and spurring effective responses to this global challenge. As the collective scientific and practical knowledge of the processes and responses involved continues to grow, future volumes in the series will address important aspects of the topic periodically over the coming years.

Download or read book Formation and Applications of the Sedimentary Record in Arc Collision Zones written by Amy E. Draut and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Inspired by a GSA Penrose Conference held in 2005 (cosponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists and the British Sedimentological Research Group), the 17 papers in this volume explore sedimentary environments in arc collision zones and their utility in recording the evolution of modern and ancient convergent margins. The first set of papers in the collection focuses on formation and evolution of the sedimentary record in arc settings and arc collision zones, concentrating on modern intra-oceanic examples. Papers include studies of flexural modeling and factors that affect development of siliciclastic and carbonate deposits around modern arcs. The second half of the volume presents new applications of arc sedimentary records. These relate primarily to constraining tectonic events in the evolution of arc systems, but also concern the links among tectonic uplift, collision, and geomorphic and climatic feedback mechanisms in arc collision zones."--Publisher's website.
