Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2004 C6 written by S. Connell-Madore and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2004 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to document results of the determination of electrical resistivity characteristics of schist samples from the Gold Lake area of the Yellowknife mining district, Northwest Territories, for use in interpreting ground electromagnetic surveys that have been conducted in that region. Results are presented from investigations of electrical conductivity mechanisms determined for five sub-samples taken from two mineralized schist samples selected to characterize the resistivity of the alteration zone and to determine the effect of cross-cutting veins & of fine-grained sulphide minerals oriented parallel to foliation. Resistivity-related factors examined in the study include sulphide grain connectivity, the insulating quality of quartz & calcite grain layers, and pore-fluid connectivity.

Book A Review Chill Block Melt Spin Technique Theories Applications

Download or read book A Review Chill Block Melt Spin Technique Theories Applications written by Mustafa Kamal and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rapid Solidification Processing of molten metals and alloys has proved to be a reliable route for producing new and advanced materials. The Chill-Block Melt Spin (CBMS) technique is important because its simplicity, flexibility and perfection. High quality materials can be produced with lower costs, as compared to other routes, by refining the microstructure and trapping the nucleated (new) metastable phases. Melt-spun ribbons subsequently produced can then be consolidated to produce billets and sheets that can be used in many industries especially high-tech industries such as aerospace and racing automobiles. This book contains several perspectives about CBMS technology and should be a useful review for undergraduate and post-graduate metallurgy students.

It first reviews the general geology of the metasedimentary & volcanic rocks of the Prince Albert group and the intrusive rocks (tonalite, granite) which were observed in the shear zone. It then describes the three generations of ductile structures that were identified in proximity to the shear zone, and offers some preliminary interpretations regarding the relationship of the shear zone to regional deformation.

Book Formation and Applications of the Sedimentary Record in Arc Collision Zones

Download or read book Formation and Applications of the Sedimentary Record in Arc Collision Zones written by Amy E. Draut and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Inspired by a GSA Penrose Conference held in 2005 (cosponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists and the British Sedimentological Research Group), the 17 papers in this volume explore sedimentary environments in arc collision zones and their utility in recording the evolution of modern and ancient convergent margins. The first set of papers in the collection focuses on formation and evolution of the sedimentary record in arc settings and arc collision zones, concentrating on modern intra-oceanic examples. Papers include studies of flexural modeling and factors that affect development of siliciclastic and carbonate deposits around modern arcs. The second half of the volume presents new applications of arc sedimentary records. These relate primarily to constraining tectonic events in the evolution of arc systems, but also concern the links among tectonic uplift, collision, and geomorphic and climatic feedback mechanisms in arc collision zones."--Publisher's website.

The site was excavated with the assistance of a team of professional archaeologists and volunteers. Utilizing resources and funds donated by the local scientific communities, the project employed a multidisciplinary sampling strategy designed to recover material for analysis by experts in fields such as anthropology, archaeology, palaeobotany, zooarchaeology, bioarchaeology, palaeopathology and photo imaging. This volume reports the results of these various applied analytical techniques laying a solid foundation for future comparative studies of prehistoric Caribbean human populations and cultures.
