Book excerpt: 60 Kakuro Puzzles Grid size: 10×14 Book size: 8,5 x 11 inch For beginner and advanced puzzlers Puzzles and solutions What is Kakuro puzzle? Kakuro puzzles are regular features in many math-and-logic puzzle publications across the world. ... The objective of the puzzle is to insert a digit from 1 to 9 inclusive into each white cell such that the sum of the numbers in each entry matches the clue associated with it and that no digit is duplicated in any entry. How do you solve difficult Kakuro puzzles? The traditional way to solve a Kakuro puzzle is incremental: by using the existing information on the board, you can find with certainty the value of a specific cell which can take only one possible value. Then that value is filled and the process is repeated until all the board cells have been discovered. How do you start a Kakuro puzzle? The task in Kakuro puzzles is to fill all empty squares using numbers 1 to 9 so the sum of each horizontal block equals the clue on its left, and the sum of each vertical block equals the clue on its top. In addition, no number may be used in the same block more than once. Why is Kakuro good for you? A brain game like kakuro, as well as crossword puzzles, taking classes, reading, and writing, can help delay dementia and Alzheimer's disease, and protect the brain from decline. Who invented Kakuro? The puzzle was created around 1950 by Canadian Jacob E. Funk under the name "Cross Sums" and gained popularity in Dell puzzle magazines.

Book excerpt: Uncover the Gift is about Tammi's life journey and lessons she learned along the way. Her goal in writing this book is to encourage the lives of others as they are on their journey. Isaiah 61: 1-3 says, "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified." This verse was given to her one morning during one of her times of prayer and Bible study. It was at that moment she felt a specific call from God to minister to people who fit this description. Little did she know, at the time, the life journey she would have to take in order to gain understanding and compassion for those walking in a life of brokenness and bondage. As this book unfolds, the promise of God has come to pass, and she prays that many will be set free and live life in the fullness of what Jesus Christ died to give. Uncover the Gift is about finding the value of who you are in Christ and realizing no matter where your life takes you, you can bring Christ to the forefront and know He truly is walking and living right there with you.

Download or read book Knights of the Cross written by Jeffrey Strickland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of the Templars is one of the most desolate and obscure in the history of the medieval West: created as a military-religious order to defend the Holy Land. After becoming one of the most powerful and influential institutions of all Christianity, the Temple was put under procedure at the beginning of the 14th Century and then suspended in 1312, because of the serious charges weighed against its members. The last Grand Master, Jacques de Molay, chose to die as a testimony of his innocence, contrasting the guilt of brothers who had been imputed to them, heresy, adherence to an anti-Christian beliefs, corruption of morals, and idolatry. The Templars have been linked with the shroud of Turin, the Holy Grail, and the Ark of the Covenant. None of these can be substantiated. What can be substantiated is that, though arrested, tortured, and burned at the stake, Pope Clement V absolved them from heresy in 1308, as discovered in a secret Vatican parchment in 2001, and released to the public in 2007.

Book The Cross the Plow and the Skyline

Download or read book The Cross the Plow and the Skyline written by Ernest J. Yanarella and published by BrownWalker Press. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apocalyptic, pastoral, and urban traditions have fundamentally shaped Western history and influenced American religion, culture, and politics. This book argues that these traditions have not only been decisive in giving form and substance to classic and modern American literature, but have been appropriated by contemporary science fiction. As a loosely connected set of cultural narratives, the Cross, the Plow, and the Skyline have through the medium of science fiction and fantasy provided a bold vista on the future grounded in an emergent ecological imagination. In the expanded second edition of the original 2001 publication, the author argues that a significant shift has taken place in contemporary Anglo-American science fiction and fantasy (SF/F) from twentieth-century SF/F critically analyzed in the first edition’s critical inquiry. Avantgarde works in twenty-first century speculative fiction--extensively examined in representative works in interludes separating the slightly revised original chapters--have become: darker in their visions of the possible future; more focused on slowness over breakneck speed; more amenable to gender, racial, and global diversity in authorship, plot, and subgenre creation; less attached to anchor concepts like the city, wilderness, and the domesticated landscape in plot development; more prone to dystopian and critical dystopian tropes; simultaneously more open toward, but critical of, Young Adult fiction; and more supportive of the breakdown of borders and antagonisms between science fiction and fantasy and SF/F and literary fiction. Ensconced in the cultural, social, and political zeitgeist of the New Millennium’s first two decades, these features of twenty-first century science fiction and fantasy may yet settle into and inform emergent and pluralistic varieties of ecological politics spreading across the globe and confronting the Earth’s social and environmental crises of our times and coming decades.
