Download or read book Integrated Cost and Schedule Control for Construction Projects written by Frederick W. Mueller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management and administrative processes within the construction industry have been undergoing major changes in the last several decades. These changes have involved significant adjustments in management science and manage ment techniques, brought about by the need for contemporary valid informa tion with which to manage the construction process. In short, management in the construction industry is changing significantly; change will continue at an accelerated pace at least through the next decade. The responses required of construction industry management are now resulting in a movement away from an entrepreneurial management style to professional management tech niques and procedures. THE COMPELLING ECONOMIC ISSUES The issues forcing these changes are economic. The rising costs of construction and of money are forcing the buyers of construction services to be more demanding. Their demands are for more construction economies, more pro duction, and more productivity than at any time in the past. Nowhere has this been more evident than in the Business Roundtable on construction and in the response of the construction industry to it.· To be successfully responsive, management in the construction industry will be required to use the best project management methods available for cost control, schedule control, and for financial and accounting controls. But responsive professional management can survive and will flourish within this more demanding eco nomic environment.

These are just some of the methods that, overthe past five decades, have promised to transformany manufacturing firm into a lean, mean, moneymakingmachine. While each incorporates certainfundamental truths, strengths, and benefits, theyare not panaceas. Nor do they necessarily providemuch-needed insight into the science that underliesfactory performance. James Ignizio, Ph.D., an internationally recognizedperformance optimization expert, believesthat only a balanced approach will provide thesignificant and sustainable improvement requiredof firms who will survive and prosper in thetwenty-first century. In this breakthrough guide, Dr. Ignizio picks upwhere such concepts as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturingleave off to provide you with a holistic,three-dimensional approach to mastering the artand science of manufacturing. Focusing on the three primary enemiesof factory performance—complexity, variability, and lackluster leadership—Optimizing FactoryPerformance cuts to the heart of the problem ofless-than-world-class performance and demonstrateshow those enemies manifest themselves incompanies across manufacturing sectors. Ignizioalso explores the insidious effect company politicsand flagging commitment to manufacturing performancehave on competitiveness. Emphasizing the all-important, often overlookedthird dimension of manufacturing—factoryprotocols—Ignizio describes the types of strategicand tactical changes to physical plant and operatingprocedures any company can make to achieveperformance improvements. In addition, he arms youwith powerful, original metrics for measuring andcomparing factory performance, as well as a set ofinteractive simulation models, available online atwww.mhprofessional.com/ignizio. Running throughout the book is an oftenamusing, always instructive account of the fictionalhigh-tech firm, Muddle, Inc., which helps supportthe concepts discussed in the real world of manufacturing, while reinforcing key lessons learned. Read Optimizing Factory Performance and findout how to transform your organization into the kindof fast, agile manufacturer that delivers the rightproducts to the right customers at the right time—every time.

Book Area Array Interconnection Handbook

Download or read book Area Array Interconnection Handbook written by Karl J. Puttlitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microelectronic packaging has been recognized as an important "enabler" for the solid state revolution in electronics which we have witnessed in the last third of the twentieth century. Packaging has provided the necessary external wiring and interconnection capability for transistors and integrated circuits while they have gone through their own spectacular revolution from discrete device to gigascale integration. At IBM we are proud to have created the initial, simple concept of flip chip with solder bump connections at a time when a better way was needed to boost the reliability and improve the manufacturability of semiconductors. The basic design which was chosen for SLT (Solid Logic Technology) in the 1960s was easily extended to integrated circuits in the '70s and VLSI in the '80s and '90s. Three I/O bumps have grown to 3000 with even more anticipated for the future. The package families have evolved from thick-film (SLT) to thin-film (metallized ceramic) to co-fired multi-layer ceramic. A later family or ceramics with matching expansivity to sili con and copper internal wiring was developed as a predecessor of the chip interconnection revolution in copper, multilevel, submicron wiring. Powerful server packages have been de veloped in which the combined chip and package copper wiring exceeds a kilometer. All of this was achieved with the constant objective of minimizing circuit delays through short, efficient interconnects.

Book Modern Product Costing Technique in the Age of Competition

Download or read book Modern Product Costing Technique in the Age of Competition written by Romeo G. Manalo and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2011-03-24 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses an important issue -- the nature of and evidence for success in the transfer costing of internal services or shared services or products within a company. The case of activity-based costing (ABC) is used to explore how the proponents have developed a framework linking Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) components of products and services. The QCD performance indices, which are the natural properties of products and services, will form part of the Service Level Agreements between the internal service providers (Shared Services Centers) and internal customers (Profit Centers) of the company. This framework optimizes the use of overhead expenses to the end products of the company. This book also discusses the various cost components of the products and services using the full absorption costing principle. It is a revolutionary idea in the sense that all activity costs are considered variable costs and product costs come from activity costs using various cost drivers. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the multi-variate statistical tool, is applied using SPSS to analyze which independent variables contribute significantly to the Product Unit Price (PUP) and which should be given more emphasis in decision making process.
