Book Ecological Model Types

Download or read book Ecological Model Types written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Model Types brings an understanding on how to quantitatively analyze complex and dynamic ecosystems with the tools available today. Ecosystem studies widely use the notions of order, complexity, randomness, and organization, and are used interchangeably in literature, which causes much confusion. Better models synthesize our knowledge on ecosystems and their environmental problems, in contrast to statistical analysis, which only reveal the relationships between the data. This book brings together experts on ecological models to create a definitive work on how to understand our complex Earth. Bridges the gap between statistical analysis and synthesis of data, enhancing our understanding about ecosystems and their environmental problems Helps readers understand complex ecosystems by walking through the best modeling options to analyze and predict environmental effects Provides a detailed review of 14 model types, covering the breadth of options available for analysis at this time

Book Corrosion Resistance Tables

Download or read book Corrosion Resistance Tables written by Philip A. Schweitzer, P.E. and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-03-31 with total page 912 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devoted to state-of-the-art research on mechanisms of corrosion and advancements in corrosion resistance, the fifth edition of Schweitzer’s Corrosion Resistance Tables offer a convenient, single-source tabular guide to materials used in the construction of all system components—from vessels to pumps to gaskets and packing—for specific processes and applications. Four pages of tables are devoted to each, with data provided for its effect on a list of metals, nonmetallic materials, coatings, mortars, plastics, elastomers and linings, and fabrics. The tables reflect the latest technological developments and research on material usage, showing each material’s suitability, their performance graded according to degree of penetration per year, the temperature to which it is resistant (given in both Fahrenheit and Celsius), and whether the material is unsatisfactory in its ability to resist the corrodent’s effects. This revised and expanded edition includes tables for 83 additional corrodents covered for the first time.

Book Challenges and Emerging Issues on Firefighter s Toxic Chemical Exposure Smoke Chemicals Contaminated PPE and Off gassing

Download or read book Challenges and Emerging Issues on Firefighter s Toxic Chemical Exposure Smoke Chemicals Contaminated PPE and Off gassing written by Guowen Song and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-08-02 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxic chemicals, either from fire ground combustion, contaminated PPE, or off-gassing from PPE material and chemical finishing have become the leading concern for the long-term health of firefighters. Exposure to fine smoke particles and toxic chemicals released from fire scenes can result in cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other pathological diseases, and minimizing this exposure has become a health priority for the firefighter. Firefighters face exposure to smoke at fire grounds and to contaminants in fire stations, vehicles, and even their homes because of resuspended fine particles or released volatile chemicals from contaminated PPE.

Book Exposure and Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollution Contemporary Methodology

Download or read book Exposure and Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollution Contemporary Methodology written by Mahmoud A. Hassanien and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains the contributions at the NATO Study Institute on Exposure and Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollution – Contemporary Methodology, which took place in Sofia – Borovetz, Bulgaria, July 1–10, 2008. Rapid advances in mathematics, computer science and molecular biology and chemistry have lead to the development in of a new branch of toxicology called Computational Toxicology. This emerging field is addressing the estimation and prediction of exposure risk and effects of chemicals based on experimental data, measured concentration and biological mechanisms and computational models of biological systems. Mathematical models are also being used to predict the fate and transport of substances in the environment. Because this area is still in its infancy, there has been limited application from governmental agencies to regulating controllable processes, such as registration of new chemicals, determination of estimated exposure and risk based limits and maximum acceptable concentrations in different compartments of the environment – ambient air, waters, soil and food products. However, this is soon to change as the ability to collect, analyze and interpret the required information is becoming increasingly more efficient and cost effective. Full implementation of the new processes have to involve education on both part of the experimentalists who are generating the data and the models, and the risk assessors who will use them to better protect human health and the environment.
