Book Corrosion Management of Seawater Cooling Systems

Download or read book Corrosion Management of Seawater Cooling Systems written by Francois Ropital and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-06-28 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Management of Seawater Cooling Systems, Volume 71 provides an overview on main seawater heat exchanger systems, different forms of corrosion, biocide treatments, corrosion, scale inhibitors, materials used, coatings and cathodic protection, maintenance, and monitoring and control. The book will be a valuable reference resource for academics, technicians and engineers who are interested in the corrosion management of seawater cooling systems. The evolution of practices in terms of sustainability, materials choice, treatment selection and changes to regulations have demonstrated the need to establish this new guide on recommended best practices that support corrosion management and the development of seawater heat exchangers. Seawater is considered an attractive resource for utilities in many industries such as power plants, refineries and chemical plants. Seawater cooling systems are used in heat exchangers, in once-through cooling water systems, and for recirculating cooling water systems. The metallurgy and materials used in these facilities need to be compatible with seawater and allow good corrosion control. As seawater composition and suspended solids can cause corrosion, scaling, fouling, microbiological growth and macrofouling problems, this book is a necessary addition to the conversation. Covers key technological developments in corrosion management of seawater cooling systems Includes coverage of seawater heat exchangers“/li> Provides information on many different forms of corrosion Presents tactics for the selection of materials, corrosion protections (inhibitors, coatings, cathodic protection) Discusses maintenance, control, monitoring and inspection

Book Marine and Offshore Corrosion

Download or read book Marine and Offshore Corrosion written by Kenneth A Chandler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine and Offshore Corrosion describes the principles of effective corrosion control treatments in marine environments, with emphasis on economic solutions to corrosion. The book explains chemical or electrochemical reaction of an alloy with its environment leading to corrosion, and mechanical loss of the metal by erosion, abrasion, or wear resulting also in corrosion. A main consideration of erosion control that the engineer should look into is the economic side. Other considerations that he should investigate are the strength of a structure, time for construction, availability of materials, and costs. The book also discusses the marine environment consisting of sea water, temperature fluctuations, dissolved gases, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, electrical conductivity, fouling. The text describes the selection of materials to be used in marine environments, surface preparation of steel before painting, the type of paint, and metallic coatings. Some of the factors in selecting coating systems are: cost and estimated life before the first scheduled maintenance, adhesion properties, moisture tolerance, elasticity, chemical resistance, impact resistance, bacterial resistance. The factors affecting maintenance include environmental conditions, quality of initial protection applied, type of structure, as well as the design and purpose of the structure. The book has been prepared for engineers and designers who are not corrosion specialists but have to deal with marine corrosion problems as part of their day-to-day professional activities. The text will also turn out to be useful for engineers with general interest in structure, building, or machinery maintenance specially those located near coastal areas.

Book Developments in Marine Corrosion

Download or read book Developments in Marine Corrosion written by S A Campbell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-10-01 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diversity of subjects involved in marine corrosion and fouling processes are evident in the approaches and techniques described in this book. An improvized understanding of biologically influenced corrosion and fouling processes is essential to the development of better corrosion protection systems, and this book shows new perspectives in our appreciation of these subjects. Equally, powerful microscope imaging, surface spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques have become available and are providing new information on metal surfaces experiencing fouling or microbial corrosion. Examples include confocal laser microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electrochemical microscopy and scanning (or vibrating) reference electrode techniques. Advances in knowledge of biocorrosion processes have enabled improvements in corrosion monitoring and protection strategies. Examples include metal or polymer coatings and the use of corrosion inhibitors and biocides. This book aims to provide a contribution to existing literature on biocorrosion in the marine environment.

Download or read book Atmospheric Corrosion written by Christofer Leygraf and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ATMOSPHERIC CORROSION Presents a comprehensive look at atmospheric corrosion, combining expertise in corrosion science and atmospheric chemistry Atmospheric corrosion has been a subject of engineering study, largely empirical, for nearly a century. Scientists came to the field rather later on and had considerable difficulty bringing their arsenal of tools to bear on the problem. Atmospheric corrosion was traditionally studied by specialists in corrosion having little knowledge of atmospheric chemistry, history, or prospects. Atmospheric Corrosion provides a combined approach bringing together experimental corrosion and atmospheric chemistry. The second edition expands on this approach by including environmental aspects of corrosion, atmospheric corrosion modeling, and international corrosion exposure programs. The combination of specialties provides a more comprehensive coverage of the topic. These scientific insights into the corrosion process and its amelioration are the focus of this book. Key topics include the following: Basic principles of atmospheric corrosion chemistry Corrosion mechanisms in controlled and uncontrolled environments Degradation of materials in architectural, transport, and structural applications; electronic devices; and cultural artifacts Protection of existing materials and choosing new ones that resist corrosion Prediction of how and where atmospheric corrosion may evolve in the future Complete with appendices discussing experimental techniques, computer models, and the degradation of specific metals, Atmospheric Corrosion, Second Edition continues to be an invaluable resource for corrosion scientists, corrosion engineers, conservators, environmental scientists, and anyone interested in the theory and application of this evolving field. The book concerns primarily the atmospheric corrosion of metals and is written at a level suitable for advanced undergraduates or beginning graduate students in any of the physical or engineering sciences.
