Book Contrasting Crustal Domains in the Committee Bay Belt Walker Lake Arrowsmith River Area Central Nunavut

Download or read book Contrasting Crustal Domains in the Committee Bay Belt Walker Lake Arrowsmith River Area Central Nunavut written by Tom Skulski and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After an overview of the regional geological setting, this paper describes the geology of the three contrasting domains of the Committee Bay belt in central Nunavut. The first & largest section covers the central domain, which comprises four narrow supracrustal belts intruded by lenticular plutonic bodies. The remaining sections describe the northern crustal domain, dominated by metasedimentary rocks & granitoid plutons, and the south-east domain, dominated by granodiorite to granite batholiths that intrude rocks of the central domain.

Book Structural and Metamorphic Geology of the Walker Lake Arrowsmith River Area Committee Bay Belt Nunavut

Download or read book Structural and Metamorphic Geology of the Walker Lake Arrowsmith River Area Committee Bay Belt Nunavut written by Mary Sanborn-Barrie and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Walker Lake-Arrowsmith River area of the Committee Bay belt, Nunavut, is dominated by three crustal domains: granite-greenstone belts in the central region, a granitic batholith in the south-east, and metasedimentary rocks in the north. Rocks within all domains display moderately to strongly developed strain fabrics & structures and preserve metamorphic mineral assemblages. This paper provides preliminary observations & interpretations of fabrics, structures, and mineral assemblages from this study area. It also presents preliminary monazite chemical ages from samples from the northern & central domains, and discusses the timing & tectonic significance of tectono-metamorphic events affecting the area.

Book Results of Bedrock Mapping of the Darby Lake Arrowsmith River North Map Areas Central Rae Domain Nunavut electronic Resource

Sandeman and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2005 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides an overview of the geology of the Darby Lake and Arrowsmith River area, located south-west of Committee Bay, Nunavut. The area is divided into three north-east trending sub-domains, all of which are dominated by granitoid rocks. Characteristic rock types from the area are described along with the phases of regional deformation and metamorphism in the area. Implications of the findings for mineral deposits are briefly discussed.

Book Overview of Quaternary Research for the Committee Bay Project Central Nunavut

Download or read book Overview of Quaternary Research for the Committee Bay Project Central Nunavut written by Edward C. Little and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents an overview of the field research conducted during the 2001 season, along with preliminary field observations, from the second year of the Committee Bay Project's Quaternary studies. The objectives of these studies are to compile high-resolution terrain inventories for the Laughland Lake, Walker Lake, Arrowsmith River, and Ellice Hills map areas of central Nunavut; to begin a reconnaissance-scale drift prospecting program that utilizes both heavy-mineral & till geochemical analyses; and to interpret the glacial history at local & regional scales. After introductory sections on regional geology, previous research, and sampling & survey methods, the paper summarizes preliminary results from field observations regarding generalized ice movements & glacial landforms.

Download or read book Geological Survey of Canada Current Research Online no 2002 C16 written by Daniel J. Utting and published by Natural Resources Canada. This book was released on 2002 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Observations & interpretations during mapping of the Walker Lake area, central Nunavut, allowed for the identification of three landforms requiring further investigation: eskers, transverse ridges, and irregular mounds. This paper describes & interprets each of these features, then develops a hypothesis that links their origin with the area's glacial history.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Komatiite units dominate Archean volcanic successions in the Laughland Lake and Walker Lake map areas of the Committee Bay region, central Nunavut. This study describes results of regional & local mapping of some well-preserved komatiite sequences in those areas, particularly in the Laughland Lake area where the majority of the better-preserved komatiite units are found. Structural & stratigraphic relationships are also discussed.

Download or read book The Precambrian Earth written by P.G. Eriksson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-03-04 with total page 966 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the editors strive to cover all primary (i.e. non-applied) topics in Precambrian geology in a non-partisan way, by using a large team of international authors to present their datasets and highly divergent viewpoints. The chapters address: celestial origins of Earth and succeeding extraterrestrial impact events; generation of continental crust and the greenstone-granite debate; the interaction of mantle plumes and plate tectonics over Precambrian time; Precambrian volcanism, emphasising komatiite research; evolution and models for Earth's hydrosphere and atmosphere; evolution of life and its influence on Precambrian ocean chemistry and chemical sedimentation; sedimentation through Precambrian time; the application of sequence stratigraphy to the Precambrian rock record. Each topic is introduced and a non-partisan closing commentary provided at the end of each chapter. The final chapter blends the major geological events and rates at which important processes occurred into a synthesis, which postulates a number of "event clusters" in the Precambrian when significant changes occurred in many natural systems and geological environments.
