Download or read book Continuous Functions of Vector Variables written by Alberto Guzman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an axiomatic treatment of the properties of continuous multivariable functions and related results from topology. Book Derivatives and Integrals of Multivariable Functions

Download or read book Derivatives and Integrals of Multivariable Functions written by Alberto Guzman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work provides a systematic examination of derivatives and integrals of multivariable functions. The approach taken here is similar to that of the author’s previous text, "Continuous Functions of Vector Variables": specifically, elementary results from single-variable calculus are extended to functions in several-variable Euclidean space. Topics encompass differentiability, partial derivatives, directional derivatives and the gradient; curves, surfaces, and vector fields; the inverse and implicit function theorems; integrability and properties of integrals; and the theorems of Fubini, Stokes, and Gauss. Prerequisites include background in linear algebra, one-variable calculus, and some acquaintance with continuous functions and the topology of the real line. Written in a definition-theorem-proof format, the book is replete with historical comments, questions, and discussions about strategy, difficulties, and alternate paths. "Derivatives and Integrals of Multivariable Functions" is a rigorous introduction to multivariable calculus that will help students build a foundation for further explorations in analysis and differential geometry.

Book Quantum Mechanics

    Book Details:
  • Author : K. Kong Wan
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2019-07-09
  • ISBN : 1351333356
  • Pages : 435 pages

Download or read book Quantum Mechanics written by K. Kong Wan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-09 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical formalism of quantum theory in terms of vectors and operators in infinite-dimensional complex vector spaces is very abstract. The definitions of many mathematical quantities used do not seem to have an intuitive meaning, which makes it difficult to appreciate the mathematical formalism and understand quantum mechanics. This book provides intuition and motivation to the mathematics of quantum theory, introducing the mathematics in its simplest and familiar form, for instance, with three-dimensional vectors and operators, which can be readily understood. Feeling confident about and comfortable with the mathematics used helps readers appreciate and understand the concepts and formalism of quantum mechanics. This book is divided into four parts. Part I is a brief review of the general properties of classical and quantum systems. A general discussion of probability theory is also included which aims to help in understanding the probability theories relevant to quantum mechanics. Part II is a detailed study of the mathematics for quantum mechanics. Part III presents quantum mechanics in a series of postulates. Six groups of postulates are presented to describe orthodox quantum systems. Each statement of a postulate is supplemented with a detailed discussion. To make them easier to understand, the postulates for discrete observables are presented before those for continuous observables. Part IV presents several illustrative applications, which include harmonic and isotropic oscillators, charged particle in external magnetic fields and the Aharonov–Bohm effect. For easy reference, definitions, theorems, examples, comments, properties and results are labelled with section numbers. Various symbols and notations are adopted to distinguish different quantities explicitly and to avoid misrepresentation. Self-contained both mathematically and physically, the book is accessible to a wide readership, including astrophysicists, mathematicians and philosophers of science who are interested in the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book An Introduction to Vectors Vector Operators and Vector Analysis

Download or read book An Introduction to Vectors Vector Operators and Vector Analysis written by Pramod S. Joag and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ideal for undergraduate and graduate students of science and engineering, this book covers fundamental concepts of vectors and their applications in a single volume. The first unit deals with basic formulation, both conceptual and theoretical. It discusses applications of algebraic operations, Levi-Civita notation, and curvilinear coordinate systems like spherical polar and parabolic systems and structures, and analytical geometry of curves and surfaces. The second unit delves into the algebra of operators and their types and also explains the equivalence between the algebra of vector operators and the algebra of matrices. Formulation of eigen vectors and eigen values of a linear vector operator are elaborated using vector algebra. The third unit deals with vector analysis, discussing vector valued functions of a scalar variable and functions of vector argument (both scalar valued and vector valued), thus covering both the scalar vector fields and vector integration.

Book Continuous Functions

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jacques Simon
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2020-11-17
  • ISBN : 1786300109
  • Pages : 272 pages

Download or read book Continuous Functions written by Jacques Simon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second of a set dedicated to the mathematical tools used in partial differential equations derived from physics. It presents the properties of continuous functions, which are useful for solving partial differential equations, and, more particularly, for constructing distributions valued in a Neumann space. The author examines partial derivatives, the construction of primitives, integration and the weighting of value functions in a Neumann space. Many of them are new generalizations of classical properties for values in a Banach space. Simple methods, semi-norms, sequential properties and others are discussed, making these tools accessible to the greatest number of students – doctoral students, postgraduate students – engineers and researchers, without restricting or generalizing the results.

Book Advanced Engineering Mathematics

Download or read book Advanced Engineering Mathematics written by Alan Jeffrey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-06-19 with total page 1184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Engineering Mathematics provides comprehensive and contemporary coverage of key mathematical ideas, techniques, and their widespread applications, for students majoring in engineering, computer science, mathematics and physics. Using a wide range of examples throughout the book, Jeffrey illustrates how to construct simple mathematical models, how to apply mathematical reasoning to select a particular solution from a range of possible alternatives, and how to determine which solution has physical significance. Jeffrey includes material that is not found in works of a similar nature, such as the use of the matrix exponential when solving systems of ordinary differential equations. The text provides many detailed, worked examples following the introduction of each new idea, and large problem sets provide both routine practice, and, in many cases, greater challenge and insight for students. Most chapters end with a set of computer projects that require the use of any CAS (such as Maple or Mathematica) that reinforce ideas and provide insight into more advanced problems. Comprehensive coverage of frequently used integrals, functions and fundamental mathematical results Contents selected and organized to suit the needs of students, scientists, and engineers Contains tables of Laplace and Fourier transform pairs New section on numerical approximation New section on the z-transform Easy reference system
