This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acting Together, Volume ll, continues from where the first volume ends documenting exemplary peacebuilding performances in regions marked by social exclusion structural violence and dislocation. Acting Together: Performance and the Creative Transformation of Conflict is a two-volume work describing peacebuilding performances in regions beset by violence and internal conflicts. Volume I, Resistance and Reconciliation in Regions of Violence, emphasizes the role theatre and ritual play both in the midst and in the aftermath of direct violence, while Volume II: Building Just and Inclusive Communities, focuses on the transformative power of performance in regions fractured by "subtler" forms of structural violence and social exclusion. Volume I: Resistance and Reconciliation in Regions of Violence focuses on the role theatre and ritual play both in the midst and in the aftermath of violence. The performances highlighted in this volume nourish and restore capacities for expression, communication, and transformative action, and creatively support communities in grappling with conflicting moral imperatives surrounding questions of justice, memory, resistance, and identity. The individual chapters, written by scholars, conflict resolution practitioners, and artists who work directly with the communities involved, offer vivid firsthand accounts and analyses of traditional and nontraditional performances in Serbia, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Israel, Argentina, Peru, India, Cambodia, Australia, and the United States. Complemented by a website of related materials, a documentary film, Acting Together on the World Stage, that features clips and interviews with the curators and artists, and a toolkit, or "Tools for Continuing the Conversation," that is included with the documentary as a second disc, this book will inform and inspire socially engaged artists, cultural workers, peacebuilding scholars and practitioners, human rights activists, students of peace and justice studies, and whoever wishes to better understand conflict and the power of art to bring about social change. The Acting Together project is born of a collaboration between Theatre Without Borders and the Program in Peacebuilding and the Arts at the International Center for Ethics, Justice, and Public Life at Brandeis University. The two volumes are edited by Cynthia E. Cohen, director of the aforementioned program and a leading figure in creative approaches to coexistence and reconciliation; Roberto Gutierrez Varea, an award-winning director and associate professor at the University of San Francisco; and Polly O. Walker, director of Partners in Peace, an NGO based in Brisbane, Australia.

Book Education for Holistic Transformation in Africa

Download or read book Education for Holistic Transformation in Africa written by Faustin Ntamushobora and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research has revealed ineffectiveness among university graduates in Africa. Some possible causes include a lack of transformative teaching and learning methods. Most of the learning methods used in Africa today were installed by colonial educational systems, often reducing the learner to an empty container waiting to be filled with lecture after lecture. As a result, there is a cry throughout Africa for an education that can empower the learner to think critically, to love both God and others, and to bring change in his or her community. This is what education for holistic transformation is all about. This book came about as a result of a doctoral study conducted in Kenya, which featured both Christian higher educational institutions and public universities in a unique comparative analysis that will be helpful to educational leaders on both sides. Readers will learn that transformation is a discovery that takes place through change of perspective. As this research reveals, this new perspective is triggered by a new revelation, a new truth, a provoking thought, a shocking observation, or a new testimony. Thus, the process of holistic transformation takes place through divine revelation, self-reflection, written material, and "the other."

In addition, it proposes solutions to selected questions on ABS based on real-world and hypothetical cases, which could instigate litigation.Written by a team of expert academics and practitioners in the field, this book makes a valuable contribution to academic and policy debates and to academic literature on international environmental law, international biodiversity law, international property law, climate law and the law of indigenous populations. Book Transformation Index BTI 2024

Download or read book Transformation Index BTI 2024 written by Bertelsmann Stiftung and published by Verlag Bertelsmann Stiftung. This book was released on 2024-03-19 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Managing the peaceful transition of authoritarian states to democracy and a market-economic system represents a tremendous challenge. Whether it comes to reconstituting the coherency of the state following armed conflict, expanding participation rights and the rule of law in emerging democracies, overcoming corrupt structures, fighting poverty and inequality, or establishing clear rules for stable market-economic competition, the requirements are enormous, and the pressure on responsible leaders is intense. After all, the quality of governance makes an essential contribution to the success or failure of transformation processes. Accordingly, the Bertelsmann Stiftung's Transformation Index (BTI) systematically places political decision-makers' steering capability at the heart of its analysis and, as a result, is the only index in the world that measures and compares the quality of governance with self-collected data. This is done in the firm conviction that the ongoing comparative study of transformation processes is invaluable for the successful design of reforms. It holds enormous global potential to learn from different political strategies for steering change, even though diverse traditions, power configurations, resources and cultures necessarily make each transformation process unique. The BTI measures and compares transition processes in 137 transformation countries with data collected between 2021 and 2023, and establishes their global rating based on detailed country reports. Now in its tenth edition, it offers the opportunity to understand long-term trends and global developments through the analysis of time-series data. The spotlight on current developments is thus complemented by almost two decades of data that captures the most varied transformation processes and puts into perspective recent progress and setbacks on the way to democracy and a market economy.

Book Gospel Culture and Transformation

Download or read book Gospel Culture and Transformation written by Chris Sugden and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-05-13 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gospel, Culture and Transformation explores the practice of mission especially in relation to transforming cultures and communities. Mission as Transformation has become a mainstream definition of mission in orthodox Christian circles, especially in the Two-Thirds World and among those involved in ministry with the poor. Vinay Samuel has played a leading role in developing this understanding of mission which he defines as follows: Transformation is to enable God's vision of society to be actualized in all relationships, social, economic and spiritual, so that God's will may be reflected in human society and his love be experienced by all communities, especially the poor. Christian faith is faith in the incarnation of God in a particular place in history so all theology should have to do with the particular. This work studies mission in the work of the leading Indian Mission Theologian, Canon Dr. Vinay Samuel between 1984-1996. It is taken from the author's larger work Seeking the Asian Face of Jesus (Wipf and Stock, 2011). Lamin Sanneh (D. Willis Professor of Mission and World Christianity, Yale University) wrote of that book, Dr. Sugden brings a sharp theological focus to bear on issues of context, identity and cultural particularity . . . The literature on contextual theology and situational ethics now has a standard to rise to. A companion volume, Mission as Transformation, is edited by Viney Samuel and Chris Sugden (Wipf and Stock, 2009).
