Book excerpt: Jude is the second to last book in scripture (right before Revelation). Unfortunately, it is one of the least taught books in Christendom even though it is quite possibly one of the most important. This short 25 verse book written by the half-brother of Jesus is call to arms for believers to stand up against the false teaching that has invaded the church. This timely book was not just relevant in Jude's day, but was a admonition for the church in the centuries to follow to be on guard for the agents of Satan who desire to taint the word of God. This book is commentary on Jude and will dive deep into some of the ancient Greek, as well as many other supporting biblical texts to reveal the deep truths the Holy Spirit penned through Jude. There will be many examples of apostasy of the past in the early church, and apostasy in the present. And yes, there will be apostates in this book who are named and their heresy will be presented against the fires of scripture. This book is meant to equip the saints to "agonize" (ἐπαγωνίζομαι) for the faith against the false teaching that is so pervasive in our culture and around the world. The title of this book was inspired by Jude's command to "ἐπαγωνίζομαι" (epagonizomai) in verse 3, which means "to contend earnestly" for the faith (in context). The Greek root word is where our English word "agonize" comes from. It is literally a call for believers to oppose those who would revile the word of God. If we do not oppose those who slander Christ our Savior and His word, then error will find its way into the church and taint all of those exposed. This book will show you the schemes and motives of the false teacher as Jude pulls no punches.

Book excerpt: The Epistle of Jude is often overlooked because it is one of the shortest books in the Bible. Yet its author, a half-brother of Jesus Christ, manages in a mere 25 verses to encapsulate one of the major themes of the entire Bible: the danger of apostasy. Jude sounds a warning against falling away from God, whether through unbelief, pride, or sheer complacency. In Jude's day, the immediate danger was from false teachers who had crept into the church bringing heretical doctrine for their own personal gain at the expense of other people's souls. This same danger exists in every generation of the church, and it certainly exists today.Pastor Melissa Scott unfolds the Scriptures through use of the best extant manuscripts along with in-depth word studies and ancient extra-biblical writings. She explains how Jude's readers would have understood his writing in their day, and how we can apply Jude's teachings to our relationship with Jesus Christ. The Epistle of Jude: A Clarion Call to Contend for the Faith proves how one of the shortest books in the Bible is one of the most useful for the church today.

Book excerpt: The Times Are Urgent God Is on the Move Now Is the Moment to ... ask God to ignite his fire in your soul! Pastor Jim Cymbala believes that Jesus wants to renew his people-to call us back from spiritual dead ends, apathy, and lukewarm religion. Cymbala knows the difference firsthand. Thirty-five years ago his own church, the Brooklyn Tabernacle, was a struggling congregation of twenty. Then they began to pray ... God began to move ... street-hardened lives by the hundreds were changed by the love of Christ ... and today they are more than ten thousand strong. The story of what happened to this broken-down church in one of America's toughest neighborhoods points the way to new spiritual vitality in the church and in your own life. Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire shows what the Holy Spirit can do when believers get serious about prayer and the gospel. As this compelling book reveals, God moves in life-changing ways when we set aside our own agendas, take him at his word, and listen for his voice.

Book Insights on 1 2 3 John Jude

Download or read book Insights on 1 2 3 John Jude written by Charles R. Swindoll and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The four short letters of 1-3 John and Jude deliver powerful messages of correct living in a wrong world and are as relevant today as they were in the first century. Written near the end of the John’s life, 1 John was meant to revive the faith, love, and hope of his readers and encourage them to renew an authentic, contagious walk with Christ. Like two siblings, 2 and 3 John are letters with unique personalities but also some striking similarities, each taking a unique approach to a single, urgent message: balance unconditional love with discerning truth. Jude, the brother of Jesus, writes with a twofold purpose: expose the false teachers that had infiltrated the Christian community, and encourage the believers to stand firm in the faith and fight for it. The 15-volume Swindoll’s Living Insights New Testament Commentary series draws on Gold Medallion Award–winner Chuck Swindoll’s 50 years of experience in studying and preaching God’s Word. His deep insight, signature easygoing style, and humor bring a warmth and practical accessibility not often found in commentaries. Each volume combines verse-by-verse commentary, charts, maps, photos, key terms, and background articles with practical application. The newly updated volumes now include parallel presentations of the NLT and NASB before each section. This series is a must-have for pastors, teachers, and anyone else who is seeking a deeply practical resource for exploring God’s Word.

Book JUDE Contention NOT Tolerance

Download or read book JUDE Contention NOT Tolerance written by Wayne Leigh and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jude is one of the shortest books in the Bible. Perhaps that is one reason it is also relatively unknown in our day. Or perhaps the reason is that Jude calls the church to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. In contemporary American culture almost any religious debating or contending is considered hate speech. The churches feel the pressure of society against arguing over the truth, since the majority no longer believes there is such a thing as absolute truth. Therefore Jude is a refreshing voice calling all believers not to be tolerant of every movement that tries to intrude itself into the church. There is truth. God's word is truth. Consequently, believers are called to take a stand for the truth, and even to fight for the truth. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the complete truth of everlasting salvation to which nothing new needs to be added. The hope for this brief Bible study of Jude is that it will help God's people contend for the faith.
