Book Congenital Hip Disease in Adults

Download or read book Congenital Hip Disease in Adults written by George Hartofilakidis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congenital hip disease (CHD) is the main cause of secondary osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip in young adults, which accounts for almost 40% of all cases of hip OA. Total hip replacement (THR) performed using optimal techniques can achieve a radical improvement in the quality of life of adult patients. This book offers in-depth coverage of all aspects of CHD in adults and its treatment. Relevant information is first provided on the basic anatomy of the hip and OA of the hip and on the classification, epidemiology, and natural history of CHD. The now limited role of femoral and pelvic osteotomies is carefully evaluated, and the use of THR is then considered in detail. Indications and preoperative planning are discussed, and the available operative techniques, analyzed. Clear guidance is provided on overcoming major technical difficulties, and the benefits of particular approaches and techniques are highlighted. More than 180 images and numerous case studies complement this reader-friendly text. The book will be an invaluable tool for orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists and radiologists.

Book Congenital Dysplasia and Dislocation of the Hip in Children and Adults

Download or read book Congenital Dysplasia and Dislocation of the Hip in Children and Adults written by Dietrich Tönnis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than 100 years, congenital dislocation of the hip has been an area of concern in orthopedics. This publications on the subject are al most too numerous to count. Yet our knowledge of the basic principles of congenital hip dislocation and its management is constantly being expanded by new research. In Germanspeaking countries, Kaiser pub lished the last comprehensive textbook on congenital hip dislocation in 1958, and Schlegel followed with a comprehensive handbook in 1961. In the Angloamerican world, Coleman's monograph was pub lished in 1978, Somerville's in 1982, and Wilkinson's in 1985. In 1982 Tachdjian compiled a volume on congenital hip dislocation that con tained contributions from 44 authorities. The purpose of the present book is to provide an overview of our pre sent state of knowledge of congenital hip dislocation, covering basic principles, diagnosis, methods of closed and open treatment, and indi cations. In the process, an attempt is made to trace progress in the field from its beginnings to the present time. Many authors describe the diagnosis and treatment of congenital hip dysplasia and dislocation in terms of specific age groups. We believe it is more prudent to take an individualized approach based on arthro graphic findings and the degree of severity of pathologic changes. Less emphasis is placed here on the management of patients by age group.

Book Developmental Dysplasia and Dislocation of the Hip in Adults

Download or read book Developmental Dysplasia and Dislocation of the Hip in Adults written by Kuo-An Lai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides descriptions of up-to-date treatment options for adult DDH/CDH (Dysplasia and Dislocation of the Hip/Congenital Dislocation of the Hip). It describes the author’s modification of peri-acetabular osteotomy for young adult DDH patients, resurfacing arthroplasty for selected patients and total hip arthroplasty for advanced arthritis and dislocation. Untreated high dislocation of the hip in adults are rare in developed countries now. The chapter of total hip describes more than 300 total hips for high dislocation with specific attempt to symmetrize the lower limbs. Techniques are described in detail, which includes ilio-femoral distraction, acetabular reconstruction, femoral osteoplasty, and shortening, derotation and corrective osteotomies. The editors invited several surgeons who are reputed for treating adult DDH with joint salvage and joint replacement to write chapters of this book.

Book Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Download or read book Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip written by Joseph O'Beirne and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-10 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a reference source containing all the relevant information about Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), for people who practice or utilize hip sonography for the early detection and treatment of DDH. It aims at improving the population screening for DDH, thus contributing to the elimination of the disorder and its devastating consequences. What makes this book different from existing literature is the fact that, apart from the (updated) information about the disorder (including development, pathophysiology, etiology, pathogenesis, risk factors etc.) and a short technical guidance, the reader will find all relevant knowledge to organize training and set up screening. This includes analysis of the rationale behind universal sonographic screening, a comparative presentation of the sonographic techniques, teaching course structure / management and setting up a screening service, including audit, quality control of the scans etc. Special chapters about radiological diagnosis, imaging the consequences of non-diagnosis or maltreatment of the disorder, clinical management of DDH cases and shaping the future of hip sonography, are also provided. The book will be of interest to any medical doctor, but in particular to those working in the fields of radiology, pediatrics, orthopedics or general medicine, sonographers performing hip scans, or specialist nurses dealing with DDH.

Book Congenital Displacement of the Hip Joint

Download or read book Congenital Displacement of the Hip Joint written by J.A. Wilkinson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If I have seen further, it is by standing on ye shoulders of giants. Sir Isaac Newton (1675) Although congenital displacement of the hip has always been recognised as the commonest pre-natal deformity of the musculoskeletal system found in otherwise normal children, it is surprising to find that much of our present-day understanding concerning its origin and nature has been discovered only in the past 150 years and its successful management eventu ally emerged during the last 60 years, almost within the professional life time of our more senior colleagues. Whereas Hippocrates (460-370 B. C. ) appeared to recognise patients that had experienced dislocation of their hips in utero and identified them from acquired forms of displacement, according to Severin (1941) it was another 2000 years before Palleta (1820) first recorded a careful description of the deformity based on his observations at an autopsy performed on an II-day-old boy with bilateral dislocations; he concluded that the findings were not caused by injury at birth, but dated from a pre-natal stage. Soon after, Baron Dupuytren (1847) gave an accurate description of congenital dislocation in his contribution entitled "Memoire sur un deplacement original ou congenital de la tete des femurs". He noted the absence of abscesses and fistulae as seen in painful and cruel pathological dislocations, which led him to believe that these congenital displacements were not likely to be the result of foetal disease as the affected babies appeared quite healthy at birth.

Book Hip Dysplasia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul E. Beaulé
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2020-01-27
  • ISBN : 3030333582
  • Pages : 247 pages

Download or read book Hip Dysplasia written by Paul E. Beaulé and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-27 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents the most advanced understanding of diagnosis and management of hip dysplasia in the young adult, written by the world’s leading experts and covering advanced imaging and biomechanical studies as well as latest surgical techniques. This is especially timely, as the field of hip preservation surgery is in constant evolution, and it is critical that surgeons and researchers combine their efforts to provide the best evidence-based knowledge to all health care providers evaluating and treating patients suffering from pre-arthritic hip pain. Not only does this book discuss the most up-to-date information on the etiology and natural history of hip dysplasia, as well as pathomechanics and traditional and advanced imaging, it also presents new conceptions of its classification and subsequent management. The focus throughout the book is that hip dysplasia is a problem of instability, where both the bony structure and the soft tissue envelope (i.e., capsule, ligaments and muscles) are at play. Moreover, although corrective osteotomies such as the peri-acetabular osteotomy will remain the dominant treatment option, non-surgical treatments as well as hip arthroscopy are now being increasingly recognized as useful adjuncts in order for our patients to return to their desired activities. Finally, as the longevity of joint replacement surgery has improved dramatically, this should be strongly considered in cases where the outcome of joint preserving surgery is not as predictable. Orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, physiatrists and physiotherapists alike will find this book a valuable resource when treating the young adult with symptomatic hip dysplasia.

Book Developmental Diseases of the Hip

Download or read book Developmental Diseases of the Hip written by Dusko Spasovski and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a long list of diseases and traumatic events that affect hip joint, but none as persistent, as elusive and with profound consequences as developmental dysplasia. For many centuries, we have been struggling with its consequences while trying to understand the reasons how and why such a stable joint eventually becomes dysfunctional and how to prevent it. Some of the greatest achievements in operative orthopaedics have been introduced in the effort to treat developmental dysplasia of the hip. This book offers a contemporary approach to developmental dysplasia of the hip, covering various clinically relevant aspects - historical and epidemiological considerations, biomechanical analysis, conservative methods and operative treatment procedures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of hip preservation surgery has evolved over the past decade as our understanding of hip pathomechanics and pathomorphology has expanded. The published literature on non-arthritic hip pathology, for example, has grown exponentially. The topics of controversy in the past decade have been answered in some cases, but new questions have also arisen. In addition to the 99 chapters in the original edition – most of which will be retained and updated as applicable – there will be over 30 brand new chapters focusing on new and more sophisticated techniques from authors that have been the pioneers of the field. The text is divided into nine thematic sections, covering the breadth of the topic and the current state of the art: basic science of the hip; operative basics for hip arthroscopy and open hip preservation surgery; pediatric hip conditions; approaches to disorders of the hip and pelvis; enthesopathy and neuromuscular disorders; hip fractures and instability; avascular necrosis; hip cartilage restoration; and oncologic conditions. Throughout, there is a heavy emphasis on surgical techniques, and video clips will be included in selected chapters. Written by edited by thought leaders and seasoned practitioners in the field, this new edition of Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Joint Preservation Surgery will remain the gold standard for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists, expanding on the range of techniques available to clinicians treating injuries to and disorders of the hip.
