Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demineralization of enamel has been one of the iatrogenic effects of fixed orthodontic therapy, for which various authors have suggested the use of fluoride to reduce the decalcification and development of white spot lesion. In the present study, the shear bond strength of light-cure composite adhesive, self-cure composite adhesive, light-cure glass ionomer cement and acidic primer were tested at the end of 24 hours after bonding. The results proved that the acidic primer system had highest shear bond strength while Light-cure glass ionomer system had the least shear bond strength. But the mean values met the minimal shear bond strength required for orthodontic bonding. After bond failure, least amount of glass ionomer cement was present on the enamel surface, followed by acidic primer system, light-cure composite and self-cure composite system. So, it is advantageous to use light-cure glass ionomer cement for bonding in terms of less amount of time spent and no enamel damage during cleaning procedure after debonding.

Book Materials for the Direct Restoration of Teeth

Download or read book Materials for the Direct Restoration of Teeth written by John Nicholson and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials for the Direct Restoration of Teeth focuses on the important role teeth play in our lives and how biomaterials scientists are ensuring that new dental materials are functional and esthetic. As research in the field is shifting away from traditional materials like metal, and towards more advanced materials, such as resins and ceramics, this book on the subject of modern materials for the direct repair of teeth provides readers with a comprehensive reference. The most pertinent modern dental materials and their properties and applications for the direct restoration of teeth are presented, along with case examples and guidance notes making this book an essential companion for materials scientists and clinicians. - Provides comprehensive coverage of conventional and modern materials for direct restoration of teeth - Includes guidance notes and case examples to support dental clinicians in decision-making - Authored by a scientist and a clinician, the book provides a balanced and complete treatise of the subject

Book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.

Book Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Self Adhesive Resin Cements to Enamel and Dentin in the Dual Cure and Self Cure Modes

Download or read book Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Self Adhesive Resin Cements to Enamel and Dentin in the Dual Cure and Self Cure Modes written by Rashmi Radhakrishnan and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All specimens were subjected to shear forces by a universal testing machine after 24hrs at a cross head speed of 1mm/min. Data were analyzed with Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon test to compare groups (¿=0.05). Results: Results showed SBS of RelyX Ultimate to be significantly greater than the 3 self-adhesive resin cements on both enamel and dentin in the dual cure mode as well as on enamel in the self-cure mode. However, Panavia SA and Speedcem were significantly greater than Rely X Ultimate in the self-cure mode on dentin. Dual cure activator improved the shear bond strength of RelyX Ultimate in the self-cure mode and no significant differences were found between the bond strengths of self-adhesive resin cements and RelyX Ultimate on dentin in the self-cure mode. Conclusions: For dentin, self-adhesive resin cements Panavia SA and Speedcem had better bond strength compared to RelyX Ultimate in the absence of light polymerization and therefore may be considered in cementing restorations such as zirconia and metal, where light transmission may be limited.

Book Adhesive Technology for Restorative Dentistry

Download or read book Adhesive Technology for Restorative Dentistry written by Jean-François Roulet and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While adhesive techniques have already penetrated almost all fields of dentistry, a gap remains between accepted treatment modes and what is carried out in daily practice. This book, a compilation of the proceedings from the 3rd European Symposium on Adhesive Dentistry, provides the information, arguments, and data that clinicians need to incorporate adhesive dentistry into their daily practice. Leaders in the field present the rationale for adhesive techniques in esthetic restorative dentistry. Minimally invasive dentistry and specific issues faced by clinicians using adhesive techniques with ceramic and resin composite restorations are also discussed. Finally, two concluding chapters remind clinicians that they are dentists operating in a biologic system with the objective to restore patients' health.
