Book Comparative and International Research In Education

Download or read book Comparative and International Research In Education written by Michael Crossley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the foreword: This book is a major contribution to the field of comparative and international education. It has been co-authored by two distinguished figures, who write with authority and clarity, and who present conceptual insights which add creative and intellectual vitality to the field at a time of major change and development. Changing geopolitical relations, the acceleration of globalisation and major advances in information and communication technology have all transformed and revitalised international and comparative research in education. This multidisciplinary book critically examines the implications of this change for those engaged in such work worldwide. Groundbreaking and insightful, it draws on the latest research and developments in the field to give a comprehensive overview and analysis of the contemporary condition of this valuable form of research. Drawing upon the authors' extensive international experience, the text: * Re-assesses the diverse and multidisciplinary origins of this field of study: * Documents the increased orientation towards research; * Explores the changing nature of the problems and issues faced by both new and experienced researchers; * Puts forward a coherent and well-informed case for a thorough reconceptualisation of the field as a whole. The book argues eloquently for increased cultural and contextual sensitivity in educational research and development in order that the field might make a more effective contribution to educational theory, policy and practice. This multidisciplinary work will be welcomed by a wide range of theorists and researchers in education and the social sciences, as well as teachers, policymakers and anyone concerned with improving dialogue and understanding across cultures and nations.

Book Animals as specific objects of obligations under Polish and German law

Download or read book Animals as specific objects of obligations under Polish and German law written by Małgorzata Lubelska-Sazanów and published by V&R unipress. This book was released on 2021-01-18 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defining where the needs of contracting parties end, and where the mistreatment of animals begins is especially difficult in contract law, where protecting animals is not a basic premise. Thus, although animal law is a widely discussed topic, the position of animals under civil law has not been discussed comprehensively before. The first chapters of the book set the background for subsequent civil law considerations given that the object of a contractual obligation is an animal, and the impact this has on the conclusion, performance and consequences of non-performance of a contract. It constitutes a unique interdisciplinary and comparative work focused mainly on animals in contractual relations (e.g. sale, donation, lease, tenancy, commission, agency, safe-keeping, training contracts).

Book Cross National Comparative Survey Research

Download or read book Cross National Comparative Survey Research written by Alexander Szalai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-22 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-National Comparative Survey Research: Theory and Practice contains the proceedings of the Roundtable Conference on Cross-National Comparative Survey Research held in Budapest, Hungary, on July 25-29, 1972. The papers focus on the theory and practice of cross-national comparative survey research. The organization and execution of cross-national survey research products are discussed, along with analysis and interpretation in cross-national survey research and the role of theory in the research process. This book is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with a discussion on the strategy of cross-national survey research for the development of social theory. The objectives and implications of cross-national surveys are also considered. Subsequent chapters explore cross-national comparative survey research in areas such as juvenile delinquency and development; time-budget and industrialization; and values in politics. The process of cross-national survey research is outlined, together with analysis and inference in such studies and the role of theory in the research process. The final chapter looks at ways of extending the global reach of survey research. This monograph will be of interest to social scientists, sociologists, and social science researchers.

Book Symposium Analysing the Dynamics of Social Change in Europe

Download or read book Symposium Analysing the Dynamics of Social Change in Europe written by Richard Berthoud and published by Duncker & Humblot. This book was released on 2002 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special edition of "Schmollers Jahrbuch" has been compiled to illustrate the potential value of comparative European studies. As Melvin Kohn says, "cross-national research is valuable, even indispensable, for establishing the generality of findings and the validity of interpretations derived from single-nation studies. It is equally valuable, perhaps even more valuable, for forcing us to revise our interpretations to take account of cross-national differences and inconsistencies that could never be uncovered in single-nation studies".Cross-country comparisons are of immense potential value for different actors. Within Europe they are of likely significance:- To the institutions of the EU itself, offering a detailed map of variations in social and economic experiences between countries and groups of countries.- To policy makers at the national level, showing how far the social and economic problems observed locally are experienced in common with other European countries.- To social scientists seeking to understand the processes and results of change. If the influences identified in one country are not generalisable to other countries, it is necessary to develop hypotheses about the reasons for the differences.- To analysts of social policy looking for general conclusions about the influence of government actions on individuals' lives in Europe. There are many different approaches to cross-country research. Summary macro-data may be compared across many countries. At the other extreme, highly detailed studies can be undertaken of the effects of policy in just two or three countries. The papers in this compilation are focused on micro-level data about individuals and households in most of the countries in the EU. They are mostly based on one cross-national survey, the European Community Household Panel (ECHP). Most of them have been contributed by members of the European Panel Analysis Group (EPAG).
