Book Comparative Analysis of Trade in the European Union and in the USA

Download or read book Comparative Analysis of Trade in the European Union and in the USA written by Ishak MeSic and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Union and the United States represent two of the strongest global regions where is placed the most part of the global distributive trade. Therefore, this study aims to explore and present a comparison of the level of development, structure, and global trends in the distributive trade, in EU and in US. The first part of the study deals with the level of development and the structure of the distributive trade in EU and in US, and with comparing the level of development and the structure of the distributive trade in these two global regions. After that, the study deals with comparative analysis of global trends in the distributive trade, of the EU and of the US (modernization of retail formats, increase the participation of retail with its own brand, the concentration of trade, internationalization of the retail trade). Although comparative analysis shows that there are certain differences in the level of development of distributive trade, sectoral structure of distributive trade is quite similar in the US and in the EU. Comparative analysis of global trends shows larger intensity of global trends in the distributive trade of the EU than in the US.

Book Economic integration in NAFTA and EU A comparative analysis

Download or read book Economic integration in NAFTA and EU A comparative analysis written by Wolf Seiler and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,3, LMU Munich, course: Regionalisierung der internationalen Handelsordnung?, language: English, abstract: The two regional trading agreements NAFTA and EU differ greatly, not only in their economic but also political approaches to regional integration. The paper describes the differences in the two regional trading agreements starting with the respective institutions and their structures. After that follows an analysis of indicators of their economic integration that will in a next step allow us to assess and compare them. This general assesment is followed by a more detailed comparison of how poorer members of NAFTA and EU, namely the cohesion countries in the EU and Mexico in NAFTA, have profited from the regional economic integration drives. Concluding remarks are given on positive and negative integration in both regional agreements.

Book A Comparative Analysis of Free Trade Between the U S and the EU

Download or read book A Comparative Analysis of Free Trade Between the U S and the EU written by Misti Dawn Sharp and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike many studies that assess the impacts of free trade agreements (FTAs), this thesis is a study of the negotiated outcomes in FTAs between the United States (U.S.) and Chile, and the European Union (EU) and Chile. Existing negotiation literature pertains to multilateral trade talks, dispute settlements or bilateral one good trade agreements. Studies regarding the negotiation process and other factors influencing outcomes in comprehensive FTAs are rare. In order to address this gap in the literature, this thesis is an analysis of how and why the FTA between Chile and the U.S. differs from the FTA between Chile and the EU, in particular with regards to sensitive agricultural goods. As the two agreements were negotiated and implemented within similar time frames, and thus a similar political and economic environment within Chile, it is possible to use the theory-testing method of difference case study approach. This framework helps to test the validity of one leading theory of economic negotiations posited by Odell. Moreover, any shortcomings in the applicability of Odell's theory to these specific negotiations can be ascertained using this methodology. Odell's theory postulates that negotiated outcomes are a result of market conditions, domestic politics, and negotiator beliefs and strategies. In addition to causality in FTA negotiations, the case study will ascertain how the U.S. and the EU differed in their approaches to negotiating free trade. Conclusions drawn from this study include that there are varying degrees of sensitivity in agriculture which result in special and specific negotiated outcomes. Furthermore, the U.S. and the EU differ in their approaches to free trade which inevitably affects negotiated outcomes. Overall, Odell's theory is a competent basis for understanding these FTA negotiated outcomes. Additional theoretical understanding of the impact of the institutional considerations in the negotiation process and existing domestic policies could however add to the comprehensiveness of this theory.

Book The EU Internal Market in Comparative Perspective

Download or read book The EU Internal Market in Comparative Perspective written by Dominik Hanf and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2008 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Union's internal market is the «hard core» of integration and by far its most precious asset. However a number of deep-seated factors have impeded the development of a systematic and wide-ranging academic research programme dedicated to the internal market. The purpose of this book is to begin to address this predicament with a tri-disciplinary analysis of the internal market, as scant opportunities for mutual understanding and learning across disciplines (law, economics and politics) currently exist. Internal market scholars from all three disciplines collaborated on this project, in which each chapter was read and critiqued by a scholar from a different discipline. The editors trust that this unique exercise reveals to many readers the enormous potential for in-depth and continuous analysis of the internal market and all that it entails. It also provides an accessible text for students and scholars from all three disciplines interested in the internal market.

Book An analysis of the benefits and critique between the free trade agreements NAFTA and CETA in a historical comparison

Download or read book An analysis of the benefits and critique between the free trade agreements NAFTA and CETA in a historical comparison written by Paul Petersen and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2018-06-27 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,9, Cologne Business School Köln, language: English, abstract: The following paper refers to the potential of international free trade agreements to create interconnected economic markets, which require a common trade policy of the contracting countries. The difficulty in this approach is to ensure an economic integration of both countries on the basis of bilateral treaties, despite differing cultural, social and economic attitudes. As an effect of the continuing globalization and the increased international interconnectedness, there is generally a rising number of international free trade agreements among countries with the intention to achieve economic growth and welfare that on the other hand simultaneously led to an increased amount of criticism arising from non-governmental organizations, consumer protection organizations or environmental groups. This oppositeness has received a lot of attention during the recent negotiations and implementation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union and Canada. Similar to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which is a foreseen free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States that has been temporarily suspended due to huge protests, both agreements have in common that they bear more criticism that than any other free trade agreement ever before. This is why it is interesting to know to which degree there is a correlation of similarities and differences between a modern free trade agreement such as the CETA and an already established treaty like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) between the United States, Mexico and Canada. According to the title, there will be “An analysis of the benefits and critique between the free trade agreements NAFTA and CETA in a historical comparison” with the purpose of figuring out whether a certain contracting country is benefiting from the NAFTA or the CETA or if it is experiencing any social, environmental, cultural, economic or other disadvantages. In the following segments these aspects will be examined, contrasted and evaluated with the support of studies and current data to provide meaningful findings and to give a final recommendation for action at the end of the paper.

Book Trade and Transitions

Download or read book Trade and Transitions written by Marsha Chandler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-01-14 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faced with increased levels of international competition and mounting budget deficits some developed, Western economies have responded by introducing trade restrictions. This book uses a comparative analysis of eight leading industrial nations (including Japan, the United States, West Germany and Britain) to demonstrate that such policies are mistaken. Alternatives to trade restrictions, including subsidies for industries and labour-market policy instruments are also shown to have their drawbacks, and the book emphasises the need for countries to find and exploit policies which fulfil their own political and social needs but which are least injurious to their trading partners.

Book A Comparative Analysis of Audio Visual Services in Selected U S and Japanese Regional Trade Agreements

Download or read book A Comparative Analysis of Audio Visual Services in Selected U S and Japanese Regional Trade Agreements written by Bregt Natens and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2013, the European Union (EU) initiated negotiations for regional trade agreements (RTAs) with the United States (U.S.) and Japan, two of the largest economies in the world and key trading partners. Both countries have strong offensive interests in audio-visual services, a sector in which the cultural exception is a symbolic defensive interest to the EU. Firstly, this report sets the scene: what is the audio-visual services sector and how does it relate to the cultural exception? It also addresses some key legal concerns surrounding EU practice in its RTAs. Subsequently, it assesses how the U.S. and Japan have addressed audio-visual services in RTAs with counterparties with similar defensive interests. The four case studies are NAFTA (as concerns Canada), the U.S.-Korea RTA, the Japan-India RTA and the Japan-Switzerland RTA. It concludes with some possible recommendations for the EU.

Download or read book U S Trade with Major Trading Partners written by Congressional Research Service and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: U.S. world trade has grown steadily over the past decade. In 2017, the United States exported $2.4 trillion in goods and services and imported $2.9 trillion. Since 2009, when trade flows declined sharply in the midst of the financial crisis, U.S. exports have grown-in nominal terms-48.5%, while U.S. imports have grown 47.6%. More broadly, since 1960, trade relative to gross domestic product (GDP) has risen markedly. U.S. exports as a percentage of GDP expanded from 5% in 1960 to over 12% of GDP in 2017, while U.S. imports expanded from 4% to over 15% of GDP. China was the top U.S. trading partner in 2017, with $711.7 billion in total goods and services trade, followed by Canada ($679.9 billion), Mexico ($622.1 billion), Japan ($286.1 billion), and Germany ($239.8 billion). China was the largest source of U.S. imports, while Canada was the largest destination for U.S. exports. However, considering the 28 member states of the European Union (EU) as a single trading partner, the EU is both the largest U.S. export destination ($528.2 billion) and the largest source of U.S. imports ($629.4 billion). The majority of U.S. global trade-approximately 65%-is with countries that do not have a free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States. The changing dynamics and composition of U.S. trade pose both opportunities and challenges for U.S. trade relations. These developments have intensified congressional interest in U.S. trade policy and heightened congressional demand for comparative analysis of U.S. bilateral trade flows. In the coming months, Congress may face matters such as shaping U.S. trade policy to reflect the changing composition of U.S. trade; enhancing the competitive position of U.S. industries, firms, and workers; promoting access to new foreign markets for U.S. businesses; and addressing new trade tensions, barriers, and other issues raised by the growing role of emerging economies in the global economy. In addition, questions affecting U.S. trade trends could arise as the Trump Administration renegotiates existing FTAs and pursues new ones, and Congress debates and potentially ratifies them. Congress may closely monitor negotiations on other trade agreements, as well as developments at the World Trade Organization.

Book Export Finance

  • Pages : 66 pages

Download or read book Export Finance written by United States. General Accounting Office and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: GAO reviewed the types of export-financing assistance that national governments provide to exporters and banks in the United States, particularly through the U.S. Export-Import Bank (Eximbank), and in the five largest exporting countries of the European Union--France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The distinguishing characteristic of this type of financing is that it is generally tied to the export of foods and services from the countries providing the export financing assistance. Congress is debating the level of resources that the Eximbank should receive to support U.S. exporters. Some believe that the Eximbank plays an important role by correcting market failures and helping U.S. exporters compete on a level playing field against their foreign counterparts. Critics argue that the Eximbank distorts capital markets and provides unwarranted taxpayers subsidies to U.S. exporters. This report (1) identifies the magnitude of export financing that the United States and the five European Union countries provides, (2) describes the types of export-financing delivery systems used in these countries, (3) highlights key differences in and the trade-offs among U.S. and European Union members state programs, and (4) summarizes the status of international efforts to limit the use of government-supported export financing.
