Book Cylindrical Lattice Collision Probability Codes B692 RP

Download or read book Cylindrical Lattice Collision Probability Codes B692 RP written by Edwin M. Pennington and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First-flight collision probabilities for a regular lattice of cylindrical fuel rods and moderator are calculated by means of the assumption that neutrons reaching the outer boundary of the unit cell are returned isotropically. The Fortran program to calculate these collision probabilities is described, and comparisons are made with results of Fukai's exact method and other approximate methods. The treatment is then extended to lattices with cladding on the fuel, and a description is given of the corresponding three-region Fortran program. Collision probabilities calculated by the method presented here are in rather good agreement with exact values.

Book A METHOD FOR CALCULATING COLLISION PROBABILITIES IN GENERAL CYLINDRICAL GEOMETRY AND APPLICATIONS TO FLUX DISTRIBUTIONS AND DANCOFF FACTORS

Download or read book A METHOD FOR CALCULATING COLLISION PROBABILITIES IN GENERAL CYLINDRICAL GEOMETRY AND APPLICATIONS TO FLUX DISTRIBUTIONS AND DANCOFF FACTORS written by and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The collision probability method for calculating neutron flux distributions is acquiring increasing attention, particularly for its application to reactor lattice cells. The characteristic feature of this method is the calculation of the collision probability matrix. Once this matrix has been obtained, or, in the case of more than one energy group, after the collision probability matrices and the scattering matrices have been obtained, the problem of solving the flux is reduced to the problem of solving a system of simultaneous linear equations. Several approximations of a physical nature have been proposed in order to facilitate the calculation of the collision probability matrix for an annular system. Other approximations have been proposed for cluster geometry, e.g., the use of elementary cells. The approach made in the present paper is to refrain from approximations of this kind, and to look for other methods to facilitate the calculation of the collision probabilities. It is shown how an efficient Gauss integration can be used in the annular case to the effect that quite accurate collision probabilities can be calculated in a rather short time. Two computer codes for calculating flux distributions in one group will be described briefly, Flurig for the annular case and Clucop for the cluster case.

Book Transportation for the Nuclear Industry

Download or read book Transportation for the Nuclear Industry written by D.G. Walton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transport requirements of the nuclear industry are unique in many respects. Thi s is not because cargoes are particularly large or hazardous by compari son wi th other industries but because standards of performance required in every aspect of the activity are so much greater than those required for any other industry. Transport of nuclear materials is subject to existing statutory regulations applied not only nationally but internationally. In addition to this, users of transport demand the highest standards of performance for their own purposes particularly in the area of quality assurance. Similar considerations also apply to the transport of non-nuclear materials where the transport link often has to tie in with project management and quality assurance requirements. Safety and security of nuclear materials are of paramount importance but even when these aspects are of a completely acceptable standard public attitudes to the transport activities have to be addressed adequately. The transport system itself consists of many components. The route, the vehicles, the containers, and the individual packages. The performance of each component determines the performance of the total system: all these factors were presented in the 1988 Conference on Transportation for the Nuclear Industry, giving a broad over-view of current practice together with wide ranging consideration of future requirements and developments.
