Book The History of Signature Golf Balls

Download or read book The History of Signature Golf Balls written by M. Hatcher and published by . This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Note: This book has been updated as version 1.1 after the author disabled distribution channels due to a single bad review. The author corrected 2 errors mentioned in the review and conducted additional research to increase the list of "known" signature golf balls to 310 with 120 signature golf ball pictures. There are some 3000+ signature golf balls available to collectors and no single source book can list them all. The primary purpose of the book is to assist beginner and intermediate signature golf ball collectors to identify the most desirable signature collection series and to protect the average beginning collector from the thousands of fake and replicated ATTI/Icosahedron golf ball blanks used to create fake signature golf balls with golf ball label printers or "scribbled" hand-written signatures in a well-practiced duplication and fake replication process. The book was re-written to attempt to improve the book's usefulness to beginning and intermediate signature golf ball collectors and to protect them from re-sellers who do not verify the authenticity of the golf balls they purchase and re-sell for a profit. The author only desires to publish books of suitable quality to beginning collectors and to capture fleeting history during the brief time period signature golf balls become available for sale on the internet and then disappear into private collections. All pictures are verified whenever possible as "authentic" golf balls from the author's private collection of "non-pristine" authentic signature golf balls. Pristine golf balls are rarely "authentic" and most often are replica fakes unless purchased in original sleeves or have distinguishing wear patterns. This book is intended for beginning collector audiences, not reseller or affiliate advertisers of auctioned signature golf ball collections. When reasonable and possible using the limited public literature the book details history of selected signature golf balls from Harry Vardon to Sam Snead to Tiger Woods. 1900-1936-2013. Includes pictures of seam markings, and dates of 1st manufacture when known. Includes detailed technical terms and glossary for material science and ball construction as well as performance and testing parameters. Companion book to How to Succeed at Golf M. Hatcher Covers select signature golf balls and sponsorship by companies of Harry Vardon, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Tommy Armour, Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Nick Faldo, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Discusses brief company histories of Tommy Armour Golf, Ram Golf, Faultless and MacGregor (GolfSmith). Removes the discussion on logo themes to a separate book for beginning logo ball collectors. The companion book makes suggestions for collections themes and provides examples of logo collection themes and examples for various types of logo ball collections. See the companion book "The History of Logo golf balls" M. Hatcher

Book The Story of the Golf Ball

Download or read book The Story of the Golf Ball written by Kevin McGimpsey and published by Philip Wilson Publishers. This book was released on 2004-01-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the golf ball and how it has affected the game, especially club development and the rules. From the feather ball era in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the gutty ball era of the 1850s to the rubber-cored (modern) ball era this book literally takes you "inside" the ball with fascinating details of all aspects of the golf ball. It covers the development of rules pertaining to weight and size--details that were contested in America and Britain for nearly 50 years, and how ball makers sought to make the ball travel further, move straighter and stand up to the most punishing strokes. Until 1920 there was no size or weight restrictions to the ball. Thereafter maufacturors had to conform to the specifications, otherwise the ball was deemed illegal. The American and British golfing authorities could not agree on dimensions so for nearly 50 years there were 2 'legal' balls played either side of the Atlantic. Ball makers have long sought to make the ball travel further, move straighter and to provide protection to the ball from poorly executed shots. This book shows how manfucaturing techniques have evolved from stuffing feathers into a leather sack in the seventeenth century to hydraulic presses and spraying booths in the early twentieth century. The balls' cover patterns were designed to improve their flight characteristics and these ranged from stars, diamonds and pimples to the round dimple (today's standard) that was patented in the early twentieth century. The author has made extensive use of the data recorded at the many golf memorabilia sales since the early 1980s. He also records many of the prices paid at auction for golf balls.

Book Golf Ball Cover Story

Download or read book Golf Ball Cover Story written by James J. Harrison and published by . This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the science and technology of golf balls. Many golfers don't understand enough about the modern golf ball to choose which ball they should be using. The author has reviewed the US patent literature from Acushnet Company, the maker of Titleist and Pinnacle golf balls, and has summarized the latest developments in golf ball aerodynamics, the various dimple patterns, the composition of the core and the cover, and why these issues are so important for golfers today. No one has ever written a book that summarizes what the original US patent literature teaches us about golf ball science and technology. The latest discoveries, which sometimes may be highly technical in nature, are written in a form and a style that is directed to the average reader. The chapters in Part 1 of the book are arranged according to the golf ball dimple pattern that appears on the surface of the ball. In Part 2 the chapters highlight what the author has learned about all the important golf ball models made by Acushnet Company, e.g., Pro V1, Pro V1x, NXT Tour, NXT Tour S, Pinnacle Soft, etc. This book is also a guide for those of us who collect golf balls as a hobby. Ways to accurately date vintage golf balls are discussed. Photos and useful information about the golf balls in the author's collection are presented and discussed. The average golfer, the professional golfer, and the collector alike will benefit from reading this book.
