Book Coincidence Corrected Efficiency Calibration of Compton Suppressed Hpge Detectors

Download or read book Coincidence Corrected Efficiency Calibration of Compton Suppressed Hpge Detectors written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present a reliable method to calibrate the full-energy efficiency and the coincidence correction factors using a commonly-available mixed source gamma standard. This is accomplished by measuring the peak areas from both summing and non-summing decay schemes and simultaneously fitting both the full-energy efficiency, as well as the total efficiency, as functions of energy. By using known decay schemes, these functions can then be used to provide correction factors for other nuclides not included in the calibration standard.

Book Compton Rejection for HPGe Detectors Via Real time Pulse Shape Analysis

Download or read book Compton Rejection for HPGe Detectors Via Real time Pulse Shape Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory-developed pulse shape analysis (PSA) technique which performs real-time Compton suppression in High Purity Germanium (HPGe) detectors without the use of anti-coincidence detectors is described. Some preliminary measurements of a variety of sources with a standard HPGe detector system and our prototype PSA algorithm have been made and indicate that a reduction in Compton continuum can be achieved via PSA. These measurements represent an initial assessment of the effectiveness of the prototype PSA system for the improvement of spectral quality and future improvements are expected. Additional work is progressing to optimize the effectiveness of the algorithm for Compton rejection in standard HPGe detectors. Work is also progressing to extend the methodology to segmented HPGe detectors which could potentially yield significantly better Compton rejection and gamma-ray ima.

Book Wobbling Motion in Nuclei Transverse Longitudinal and Chiral

Download or read book Wobbling Motion in Nuclei Transverse Longitudinal and Chiral written by Nirupama Sensharma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-22 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents significant new observations of nuclear wobbling, and thus expands our understanding of nuclear triaxiality and its prevalence in the nuclear chart. Triaxial nuclear shapes are a very rare phenomena and their experimental identification often relies on two unique signatures – nuclear wobbling motion and chiral rotation. While nuclear chirality is a well-studied phenomenon, experimental observations of wobbling nuclei are rather limited. With the identification of 135Pr and 187Au as wobblers, this work establishes triaxiality to be a general phenomenon present in different regions of the nuclear chart, irrespective of any particular spin or deformation. A major focus of this work is the detailed investigation of the different kinds of wobbling modes. Depending on the geometry of the nuclear system, wobbling can be classified into two types – longitudinal and transverse. This work has, for the first time, reported evidence of the possible coexistence of both forms of wobbling in a single nucleus. Another important result reported in this work is the very first observation of co-existing chiral and wobbling modes in the 135Pr nucleus. This thesis details the experimental methods that led to this breakthrough, along with pertinent theoretical interpretations.

Book Neutron Generators for Analytical Purposes

Download or read book Neutron Generators for Analytical Purposes written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA Radiation Technology Repo. This book was released on 2012 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication addresses recent developments in neutron generator (NG) technology. It presents information on compact instruments with high neutron yield to be used for neutron activation analysis (NAA) and prompt gamma neutron activation analysis in combination with high count rate spectrometers. Traditional NGs have been shown to be effective for applications including borehole logging, homeland security, nuclear medicine and the on-line analysis of aluminium, coal and cement. Pulsed fast thermal neutron analysis, as well as tagged and timed neutron analysis, are additional techniques which can be applied using NG. Furthermore, NG can effectively be used for elemental analysis and is also effective for analysis of hidden materials by neutron radiography. Useful guidelines for developing NG based research laboratories are also provided in this publication.

Book Establishing an Anti coincidence System for an HPGe Detector Using a Custom Circuit Board

Download or read book Establishing an Anti coincidence System for an HPGe Detector Using a Custom Circuit Board written by John Thomas Hills and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A custom circuit board was designed and built as an all-in-one (noise discriminator, amplifier, signal time comparator, and analog-to-digital converter) unit used with the active guard and main detector assembly (NaI(Tl) with PMT and planar HPGe respectively) of an anti-coincidence system (ACS). The custom board0́9s operational ability was tested and quantified by comparing the AC ON (ACS activated) and AC OFF (ACS not activated) spectra for 10 minute counts of Na-22, Mn-54, and Cs137 button sources as well as for two sets of 24 hour background counts. Figures of merit used to compare AC ON/AC OFF spectra were the minimum detectable activity (MDA), Compton suppression factor (CSF), and percent reduction formulas. The percent reductions results provided the clearest evidence that the custom board was able to reduce the background continuum. Unfortunately, the CSF and MDA results were inconclusive.

Book Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food

Download or read book Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food written by Miguel de la Guardia and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mineral elements are found in foods and drink of all different types, from drinking water through to mothers’ milk. The search for mineral elements has shown that many trace and ultratrace-level elements presented in food are required for a healthy life. By identifying and analysing these elements, it is possible to evaluate them for their specific health-giving properties, and conversely, to isolate their less desirable properties with a view to reducing or removing them altogether from some foods. The analysis of mineral elements requires a number of different techniques – some methods may be suitable for one food type yet completely unsuited to another. The Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is the first book to bring together the analytical techniques, the regulatory and legislative framework, and the widest possible range of food types into one comprehensive handbook for food scientists and technologists. Much of the book is based on the authors’ own data, most of which is previously unpublished, making the Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food a vital and up-to-the-minute reference for food scientists in industry and academia alike. Analytical chemists, nutritionists and food policy makers will also find it an invaluable resource. Showcasing contributions from international researchers, and constituting a major resource for our future understanding of the topic, the Handbook of Mineral Elements in Food is an essential reference and should be found wherever food science and technology are researched and taught.
