Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Closest Alligator to the Boat" is a book about professional and personal development for college students. Think of it as a series of office hours sessions with a professor but in a short, written format. These "office hours" will address students' objectives, logistics, and morale for navigating college and life. This book is for college students who want to learn about themselves, make a change in their lives, get somewhere, achieve a goal, improve themselves, help others, or just get some different perspectives about professional and personal development options. This book will be especially useful for students who are feeling overwhelmed, behind, confused, unsure, or scared about their classes, major, the "world of academics," interacting with professors, handling professional relationships, conflicts with individuals or institutions, and trying to "do it all." The book's title "Closest Alligator to the Boat" comes from an old military saying that applies to a variety of situations. It refers to dealing with the most vital and urgent issue first. If you want to survive and thrive, you will need to "attack" whichever "alligator" is directly in front of you. It is important to tackle the things in life that are "mission critical," i.e., prioritize what matters most. This book will help students to prioritize certain ways of thinking and acting in order to achieve their short- and long-term goals.

Book Shoot the Alligators Closest to the Boat

Download or read book Shoot the Alligators Closest to the Boat written by Nathanael Stolte and published by Stubborn Mule Press. This book was released on 2019-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Stolte shows us his favorite parts of hell with calm enthusiasm. His love affair with perdition cools with distance from the inferno, but still proves eternal. There is humor and humility in this complex (but not convoluted) collection of street-kid war stories and dope sick love letters. It reads like a lullaby for the damned." --Ezhno Martín, founding editor EMP Books "Nathanael William Stolte always has room for you in his heart. It's warm and metaphysical in there, so be sure to bring your slippers and a flask. Stolte is the everyday-man's man, writing of a simple and humble life. He is often brave enough to call people out on their shit (including his own), writing, "Being wrong is a universal human condition." His short pieces land like grenades and his longer pieces spin tales of the intricacies of aging, the nature of perspective, and lessons necessary for becoming a better person. Wherever Stolte may be, I am confident that he is experiencing and writing about that place in its most beautifully authentic form. Like the city, this collection is dirty and tough, mysterious and sentimental. Stolte characterizes his collection well when he writes, "It's cold / my feet are wet & / I wouldn't change a thing." " --Linzi Garcia, author of Thank You "Some poets are born of the fire that makes the world in all of its beautiful doom, Stolte is one of those poets - let him sing." --RA Washington, author of BLACK Eunuch

Book Be You

  • Author : Senka Holzer
  • Publisher : Morgan James Publishing
  • Release : 2021-10-05
  • ISBN : 1631956086
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book Be You written by Senka Holzer and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, psychologists, and researchers have studied core values, what Dr. Senka Holzer’s calls “psychological DNA.” These core values are the things that light people up, gives them pure joy—they are what matters most. When one’s life is aligned with their core values, they are at their best. Yet despite what popular psychology says, understanding one’s core values isn’t enough to guarantee fulfillment. Senka’s research reveals something new: that people operate with not one, but two different sets of values. In addition to core values, everyone absorbs values from outside sources—family, friends, the media, their generation, and their culture. Senka calls these acquired values, and most people aren’t even aware of them. Here’s why acquired values are important: it’s our awareness of our acquired values that determines our ultimate fulfillment. Without this knowledge, people may spend precious time and energy attempting to align themselves with values that are not even their own. In Be You, Senka draws on her award-winning research as a real-life scientist with a day job in molecular medicine and heart physiology at a major international research hospital. Throughout Be You, readers can be confident that science—evidence, facts, research, and logic—are the foundation of her work. But it is also inspired by Senka’s life-long fascination with human psychology and mind-body connection. She has years of certified personal and professional coaching experience and she is committed to turning “hard” science into a deeply intuitive and empathetic model for self-transformation and fulfillment. Senka writes from the heart, in every sense of the word!

Book Journeys to the United Mexican States

Download or read book Journeys to the United Mexican States written by Kalman Dubov and published by Kalman Dubov. This book was released on 2022-06-22 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexico's history reaches back 4,000 years, beginning with the Olmecs who lived in the Yucatan Peninsula. That remarkable civilization created those huge stone heads with developments that spearheaded and vitalized every subsequent Mesoamerican civilization that followed. The Olmecs, and the Maya, who succeeded them, created the concept of zero, an incredible development in mathematical computation. This book begins with the Olmecs, tracing successor civilizations to the last Mesoamerican Empire, the Aztecs. I describe Aztec life, ritual, cuisine, and development until, in August 1521, this civilization was conquered by Spanish conquistadors. Much of the Aztecs, their people, and royalty are known today by way of Spanish ethnographers and historians who authored codices writing and describing what they saw even as that civilization was changed. That change was permanent. Aztec ritual and its polytheism were altered by Spanish missionaries and enforced by the Inquisition. From 1521 until 1821, Spanish Colonial authorities imposed forced labor in varying forms. Colonialism was overthrown in 1821, and Mexico now entered a new era. This book describes those changes as well as the challenges the government today faces in addressing many disparities in its policies. Healthcare challenges, with systemic poverty as well as the drug war preoccupies much energy in the government's efforts to address them. Mexico also has a large Jewish population whose history was marked by secrecy and Spanish efforts to eradicate this ancient religion. Today's Zocalo, in the heart of Centro Historico, was the place where Jews were burned to death in public admonition against Jewish practice. Another site for such death was the nearby ex-Convento of San Diego, opposite the Grand Palace de Belles Artes. Today's Jews are thriving, and Mexico-Israel relations are strong. This book would not be complete without describing my visits to the country. In My Visit, I describe the different ports I visited while aboard cruise ships. But many more months in the country were spent in San Miguel de Allende and in Mexico City. I describe these visits, their people, and the many nuances of Mexican life. The Mexican constitution recognizes 69 ethnic languages and speakers who are scattered but who primarily live in its southern states. Many ethnic languages are so diverse, that their dialects are unintelligible to the same language group. Language creates the core bonds of society and such multiplicity provides insight into the huge diversity of identity and of life in Mexico. This book is the 14th in the Journey series and is my first book on the American continent. I hope I have done justice to the vast complexity of this society.

Book Alligator John D

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Dumont Hudson, or Alligator John D as he is affectionately known, organized and became the first pastor of First Baptist Church in St. Elmo, Alabama, without formal theology or training. After preaching the gospel for more than twenty years, at sixty-two years old he started an alligator farm in Southern Florida that soon became a roaring success. From his recollections of life as a young rebellious boy in the rural South to his tales of taking European tourists on airboat tours and wrestling alligators, the story of Alligator John D is proof that there is an angel inside every mischievous child, and that the twists and turns of life can often lead us to the last place we every expected to be. Most importantly, Alligator John D is a reminder to readers to keep the Creator first, throughout lifes unpredictable moments. Once this is accomplished, all other necessities will fall into place.

Book I Must Remember This

Download or read book I Must Remember This written by George Thomas Youngblood and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-08-09 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was the sober time of the Great Depression, World War II, and general want, but it was also a time to live and enjoy life as much as possible. The memories include two black men, our nearest neighbors, one of whom had a wife and a son. The hard times drew us together. My father was trying to succeed with his sawmill and store so he hired the black men to look after his farm and to look after us. Mama often helped in the store and or in the church so the black man's wife was often our housekeeper, cook, and second mother. The black couple's son was our playmate so the color line was indistinct and we lived on both sides of it. Segregation had crystallized around laws, customs, and public opinion. Some people made a science of it-unwritten but widespread views about what to do under various conditions. Jim Crow was harsh and we saw some horrible things making these memories all the more melancholy and all the more precious because we did some things right.

Book The Threat

Download or read book The Threat written by Andrew G. McCabe and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 New York Times Bestseller #1 Washington Post Bestseller #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller On March 16, 2018, just twenty-six hours before his scheduled retirement from the organization he had served with distinction for more than two decades, Andrew G. McCabe was fired from his position as deputy director of the FBI. President Donald Trump celebrated on Twitter: "Andrew McCabe FIRED, a great day for the hard working men and women of the FBI - A great day for Democracy." In The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump, Andrew G. McCabe offers a dramatic and candid account of his career, and an impassioned defense of the FBI's agents, and of the institution's integrity and independence in protecting America and upholding our Constitution. McCabe started as a street agent in the FBI's New York field office, serving under director Louis Freeh. He became an expert in two kinds of investigations that are critical to American national security: Russian organized crime—which is inextricably linked to the Russian state—and terrorism. Under Director Robert Mueller, McCabe led the investigations of major attacks on American soil, including the Boston Marathon bombing, a plot to bomb the New York subways, and several narrowly averted bombings of aircraft. And under James Comey, McCabe was deeply involved in the controversial investigations of the Benghazi attack, the Clinton Foundation's activities, and Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server when she was secretary of state. The Threat recounts in compelling detail the time between Donald Trump's November 2016 election and McCabe's firing, set against a page-turning narrative spanning two decades when the FBI's mission shifted to a new goal: preventing terrorist attacks on Americans. But as McCabe shows, right now the greatest threat to the United States comes from within, as President Trump and his administration ignore the law, attack democratic institutions, degrade human rights, and undermine the U.S. Constitution that protects every citizen. Important, revealing, and powerfully argued, The Threat tells the true story of what the FBI is, how it works, and why it will endure as an institution of integrity that protects America.
