Book Pain Treatment by Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation TENS

Download or read book Pain Treatment by Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation TENS written by David Ottoson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abundant evidence indicates that TENS can be used effectively to alleviate certain pain syndromes. For patients suffering from chronic musculo-skeletal pain in particular, TENS offers an alternative means of pain management. This book addresses the need among physiotherapists for a practical manual on the application of this relatively new technique. Numerous illustrations provide guidelines for the choice of stimulation parameters, the selection of electrode positions, as well as other aspects related to technique. A brief introduction to the neurophysiological mechanisms of pain and the pain-relieving effects of TENS is also given. These special features make this comprehensive presentation of particular interest to physiotherapists and clinicians actively engaged in the management of patients suffering from pain.

Download or read book Relief of Pain by T E N S written by Margareta Eriksson and published by . This book was released on 1985-12-04 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An overview of current information concerning the pain relieving effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)--a technique that has proven to be highly effective in the treatment of chronic pain. Also provides a detailed account of the clinical use of TENS in a tertiary pain treatment unit--based on many years of practical experience. Includes coverage of important pain controlling systems, technical specifications of TENS equipment, some examples of pain conditions treated with TENS, suggestions for the efficient organization of a TENS treatment unit, and many other essential topics.

Book Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Download or read book Electrical Nerve Stimulation written by Frank Rattay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional electrical stimulation is the most important application in the field of clinical treatment with currents or magnetism. This technique artificially generates neural activity in order to overcome lost functions of the paralized, incontinent or sensory handicapped patient. Electricity and magnetism is also used in many cases, e.g., to stimulate bone growth or wound healing. Nevertheless, the basic mechanism of the artificial excitation of nerve and muscle fibers has become known only in the last few years. Although many textbooks are concerned with the natural excitation process there is a lack of information on the influence of an applied electrical or magnetic field. This book, written for students and biomedical engineers, should close the gap and, furthermore, it should stimulate the design of new instrumentation using optimal strategies.

Book Management of Low Back Pain in Primary Care

Book Trans cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Download or read book Trans cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation written by Rohini Tripathi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a collective term that includes a number of clinical complaints involving the muscles of mastication, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and associated orofacial structures. This book focuses on the non-invasive treatment modality known as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for TMJ pain management. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is an easy to use non-invasive analgesic intervention applied for diverse pain states.TENS therapy has been shown to significantly reduce analgesic consumption and potentially reduce incidence of opiate induced side effects following surgery, showing its value as an adjunctive therapy.TENS is widely used for pain management, and has become popular with both patients and health professionals of different disciplines.TENS therapy has been shown to significantly reduce analgesic consumption and potentially reduce incidence of opiate induced side effects following surgery, showing its value as an adjunctive therapy.TENS is widely used for pain management, and has become popular with both patients and health professionals of different disciplines.

Book An Evaluation of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation TENS for the Treatment of Pain Related to a Spinal Cord Injury

Download or read book An Evaluation of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation TENS for the Treatment of Pain Related to a Spinal Cord Injury written by Jason N. Doctor and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pain is a major problem in the spinal cord injury (SCI) population. Patients with a SCI often suffer from either centrally-mediated pain (neurogenic pain) or peripherally-mediated pain (musculoskeletal pain). The physical therapy technique known as TENS is often used to treat SCI related pain problems. However, the efficacy of TENS in SCI has yet to be tested. Moreover, previous research suggests that response to TENS may in part determined by subject expectation of a potent medical treatment (Deyo et al., 1990; Langley et al., 1984). The present investigation evaluated: (1) the efficacy of TENS in the SCI population, (2) whether or not patient treatment expectancy influences outcome, and (3) whether the aforementioned factors differentially influence centrally and peripherally mediated pain. Findings suggest that treatment expectation concomitant to TENS treatment may be important in potentiating reductions in distress associated with pain across different types of pain. Additionally, positive treatment expectation may be effective on directly reducing peripherally-mediated pain, but not centrally-mediated pain. The findings are discussed in relation to current biological and psychological theories of pain modulation.

Book Psychogenic Movement Disorders
