Book Cincinnati Bengals History

Download or read book Cincinnati Bengals History written by Christine Mersch and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2006 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There were three professional football teams in Cincinnati before the current Bengals became a permanent fixture in the city. The Cincinnati Celts, Reds, and an earlier Bengals team (formed in 1937) all had short appearances in leagues that soon folded. It was not until 1967 that the football gods again smiled on Cincinnati. Paul Brown, who founded the Cleveland Browns in 1942, sold the Browns in 1962 and went to work organizing a Cincinnati team that played its first game in 1968. While the Bengals may not own any Super Bowl rings, they have won two AFC championship games, in 1981 and 1988, and were AFC Central Division champions five times, 1970, 1973, 1981, 1988, and 1990, as well as topping the AFC North in 2005.

Now every Reds fan can relive memories of baseball before and after the Big Red Machine, debate about these choices, or make a list of their own. Highlighting these moments is a unique way of telling the great story of the Cincinnati Reds. While many fans will know about Frank Robinson, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, and Tony Perez, how many will remember names like Bumpus, Bubbles, and Noodles, who each had their moments of glory in a Reds uniform? It's easy for players and moments to disappear in a history that spans 150 years, but baseball roots run deep in Reds country. Classic Reds keeps those roots strong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you remember the Kardiac Kids … the Dawgs … the old Stadium … Bernie and Marty and Ozzie … this book is for you! Like a Classic throwback jersey, it recalls favorite players and exciting moments from Cleveland Browns teams of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and more. They played it old-school. Doug Dieken set the NFL record for consecutive starts by a left tackle despite three knee surgeries, broken hands and thumbs, torn tendons, a broken arm and “a concussion or two. Maybe four or six. Hard to know.” Ozzie Newsome never expected to play tight end when he was drafted, then practically reinvented the position on his way to the Hall of Fame. Bernie Kosar carried a massive weight on his young shoulders as a hometown hero leading the Browns during years when the team offered a ray of hope to a downtrodden city. Earnest Byner and Kevin Mack together formed one powerhouse backfield and separately dealt admirably with adversity. Phil Dawson discovered that despite popularity and longevity, “Every kick could be your last.” Also includes Gregg Pruitt, Brian Sipe, Marty Schottenheimer, Reggie Langhorne, Brian Brennan, Bill Belichick, Tim Couch, Phil Dawson, and others. These insightful short profiles will entertain Browns fans of any vintage!

More avocados (105 million pounds) are consumed, and more beer is drunk (325 million gallons) on the single day of Superbowl Sunday. But there is much more at play than partying at our annual sports extravaganza, as this scholarly researched yet readable volume demonstrates: Here you will read a historical perspective that includes discussions of the meta-event’s economics (stakeholders, host cities, advertising, gambling, and media), fandom, ratings, halftime entertainment, the roles of mythic spectacle and religion, football’s sexist, militaristic language, gender issues like cheerleaders and sex trafficking, the Puppy Bowl, medical concerns like concussions and violence, tailgating and foodie ideas—all along with tidbits about your favorite team(s) and player(s). Touchdown!

Book Rising From the Ashes of Bengal s Partition Untold Story of a Phoenix Aspiring to Live a New Life

Download or read book Rising From the Ashes of Bengal s Partition Untold Story of a Phoenix Aspiring to Live a New Life written by Jiban Mukhopadhyay and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-08-19 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Usually books on partition are sob stories, but not this one. 'Rising from the Ashes of Bengal's Partition' is an untold story of the journey of a child born around the time of partition, who battled many hurdles and aspired to lead a new life - like a Phoenix. This is a story of his - and his generation's - unflinching determination to move ahead. This is the story of the real people who did not curse their fate and sit idle shedding tears. It covers a child's - and his generations - torturous journey from refugee camps and colonies to the world above the sky. The story covers a span of seven decades of time and space - people and events, politics and economics, corporates and their leaders and above all the kaleidoscopic panorama across the journey through Bengal and India. The book opens up several untraveled terrains - personal experiences, a person's struggle, sufferings, tears, joys and smiles. It documents people's perception about critical contemporary events, which conventional history does not cover. The author writes from the ringside, for example on how it was to work for the most reputed corporate of the country and, what happened in the business and economy when the 'Tiger' was 'Uncaged.' Sure, readers would like to run through the author's experiences. The author has poured his heart and soul out into writing this story.

Book The Miracle of Richfield

Download or read book The Miracle of Richfield written by Roger Gordon and published by Black Squirrel Books, a trade. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three years before Brian Sipe began his magic with the Cleveland Browns, Bill Fitch and his band of Cavaliers brought a buzz to Northeast Ohio basketball that fans had never seen before. Despite a rough start to their 1975-76 season, the Cavaliers rode the shoulders of Akron native Nate Thurmond to the Central Division title. Under his leadership, they qualified for the playoffs. Then in April the Cavs provided fans with a remarkable string of games against the Washington Bullets, winning in incredible fashion three times--twice at The Coliseum in Richfield en route to a 4-3 series victory in the Eastern Conference Semifinal. An emotionally charged experience, this was the Cavs' first time in the playoffs. To further the excitement, three of their four victories weren't clinched until the final buzzer. The noise in The Coliseum was so intense that the building shook. Hailed as the "Miracle of Richfield," many maintain that the 1975-76 season remains the most memorable in Cavaliers history even over the 2006-07 and 2014-15 seasons led by LeBron James. The Miracle of Richfield: The Story of the 1975-76 Cleveland Cavaliers offers readers an inside look at the team, from its slow start winning just 6 of 16 games, the key signing of Thurmond, and winning the Central title to the pulse-pounding playoff series with the Bullets and the disappointing defeat to the Celtics. The '75-76 season--especially the playoff -- provided Cavs fans with an exhilaration that will never be forgotten.

Book excerpt: Bangladesh and the Indian state of West Bengal share many characteristics, including a common language, fertile land, abundant rainfall, year-round warmth, and a dense population. This book examines the progress made in crucial economic sectors that have paved the way for the development of Bangladesh and West Bengal. The book begins by describing how Bangladesh is moving toward achieving the status of a middle-income nation, and how West Bengal seems to have fallen into the trap of developmental experiments with different political ideologies over time. The book then compares the trajectory of development in various economic sectors of the two economies. In doing so, it covers social development, education, health care, food habits, cinema and theatre, and the entrepreneurship of both entities.
